I was in Preston around the time the fire started. Walking past the bus station towards B&M I saw Church Street looked a bit hazy. I asuumed it was a car with a dodgy exhaust or something. 10 minutes later there was smoke billowing over the horizon which you could see from miles away. To be honest, I couldn't see this building going any other way. If anyone wanted to buy it at the listed price, it would have sold at some point in the last 30 years. I suspect it was left to rot by the owners until something like this happened so they could redevelop the site at a lesser cost. Sad, but something SHOULD have been done with it long before someone torched it.
So symbolic of the single(dual even) screen cinemas. The multiplexes and the rise of home cinema took away the audience and so making these venues financially unviable. It's a real shame.
Just been watching a couple of Urbex videos on this place and was fascinated with some of the architecture and features inside. What a real shame it has come to this! Was hoping to see such an interesting place brought back into use - similar to the old cinema in Wallsend in North Tyneside maybe. Anyway, that's another building with history and memories reduced to rubble and lost forever! Seems very strange how a lot of listed buildings have been lost this way!
Watched Transformers the movie mannequin Batman here I bet they don't catch anybody responsible and if they do they should have a public stoning .... who actually owns the building and why was it left for so long ???
Good, now a nice modern development might get built now. The place has been an eyesore for years. Its an old cinema and nightclub, no historical significance whatsoever.
Gutted its gone. But its stood empty for a number of years. The odean has had nothing done with since 92. Should never let these building go to waste.
So sad, watched Star Wars there when it first came out. Loads of memories.
I work in the building to the left of the odeon at 0:58. I’m amazed it remained mostly unscathed
So sad. The double doors to the mens toilets were we sneaked in 😢

I've been told it was due to be demolished in July.
The front of the building is listed.x

Can they save the front of the building and build at the back ? It is a shame happy memories, I remember Thursday night at clouds the Rock Night.
Was thinking this myself. hope they at least manage to save the face!

Absolute shame 😢
It's kind of satirical that smoke is rising from the buildings main chimney.😀
Did the nightclub get damage with it being underneath ?
I image the the water damage alone would be enough to destroy it.
Hello uncle Steve how did u do that 😢😢
Hi Roman, I got up very early so no one was around . Flew my drone over the rubble and edited the results on my computer. 👍🏻

More than likely it was an insurance job and the owner is happy with the result!
