11:57 Yep. Bassist Ryan Needham and vocalist James Smith are the Yard Act writing engine and founding members. “Two broke millennial men” in the chorus of We Make Hits. Gorillaz, Beck are 2 of the bands most cited influences along with The Streets and Ian Dury and the Blockheads ( tho I think the Ian Dury influences are more prevalent on album 1. Thewlis became a part of the Yard Act videographic universe with the release of 100% Endurance from the first LP, where he stars in the video. Just some fan trivia. Enjoyed yr review.
AVAA. First time commenting, but I've been following closely for a couple of years now. A couple of things I didn't know that shocked me: Didn't know yelling at your children was a form of abuse... made me cast a light on my childhood and upbringing I hadn't before, so thank you for that. Didn't know it was David Thewlis speaking there! UK's full of great bands and great actors, so I find it very fitting when they meet in excellent projects like this one. A couple of things I loved: I've never seen/heard so much dog activity in the background like I did here, I loved it! And I loved the new framing (maybe it's just a onetime because of the Proust references, but if you're actually keeping it, it really favors visually). I think this might be one of my favorites of you, and this is my album of the year so far, definitely not mid, ain't it. Sorry if this was too long.
AAVA. I like to think that the line in Down by the Stream about yelling at his kid is portrayed negatively in the song's context, showing that the cycle of abuse continues generationally down even with his best intentions clearly stated. A sort of dark irony
I adore the part in Down by the Stream where the singer talks about asking for forgiveness from Jono _by abusing his own son_ while talking about the dangers of perpetuating the cycle of abuse. Such clever writing.
Avaa, I love this new album by Yart Art and was wondering if you were aware that the music videos for this project seem to follow a narrative starting with their song "Trenchcoat Museum". Im not sure how it ties in with the themes of the album but its pretty cool!
AVAA check out James Smith previous band out of Leeds Post War Glamour Girls well worth it. Moved to Leeds 15 years ago from down South it takes a while to get used to everybody calls you love even strangers which is to be commended imo.
AAVA, fun fact I actually heard we make hits when I was doing my groceries last week in Scotland haha 😅, I think you underestimate the power of radio 6 in the UK
I really find these yard act guys annoying. Not heard much of their music but I was overloaded with Instagram ads during their first album and just find them unbearably cringe. If Skye fucks with it tho I guess maybe I’m wrong. AVAA!
As somebody that's from Leeds I am obligated to say that Yard Act is brilliant

39:58 geography tip. Blackpool, Liverpool, northern British seaside towns skirt the Irish Sea.
Jonathan woss 😂 didn’t know Americans were fucking with Jonny like that

AVAA the term for used for the spoken singing style is 'sprechgesang'. Check out Dry Cleaning a band from South London that use this method.
