Nobody does it better than YES live or in the studio! I listen to this song every day and get emotional every time. YES is the greatest gift to music that God could have ever given us!🤩
A performance of this quality transcends music. Pretension Alert - for me it doesn't feel like I'm listening to music, but emotionally connecting with the people playing and feeling their presence, which is as close to spirituality as I have experienced so far.
Truly amazing. Jon at 68! Granted still beautiful at 78. I also enjoy 'State of Independence' from that show tons. His solo album 'Change We Must' is him with much orchestration. Soaring. Ty!
I was there, in Amsterdam, at the symphonic concert. I still wear the T-shirt -) It was amazing. Before joining Yes in 1972, the young drummer Alan White played in the Plastic Ono Band (album Imagine, John Lennon) and the album All Things Must Pass (George Harrison).
Ladies and gentlemen YES the greatest show on earth. Yes we're special live you would see many people wiping tears from their eyes as I was doing the same. A journey with the divine.
This is part of an entire concert with that symphony. The entire concert is available on DVD and most of it is on youtube. They do perform Close to the Edge with the symphony in this concert, but the best production they do at this concert is The Ritual: Nous sommes du soleil. It is available on youtube, but it is in three parts because it is very long.
I really appreciate watching you FEEL the music the way I do! Jon's voice...Steve's guitar singing. My favorite band of all time, and it will never change.
That's what the music does to you! Stirs your emotions, makes you cry, makes you laugh, but most of all it makes you appreciate - the skill of ALL the musicians. BTW, Jon also plays guitar, keyboards and harp!
Beautiful reaction Jone, indeed Yes are at their very best live. This concert with the orchestra is so brilliant. I'm sure you'll agree their music fits so beautifully with orchestra. They actually open the concert with Close to the Edge to a standing ovation, I highly recommend you watch that one. Also from the same DVD, The Gates of Delirium, absolutely epic & the final "soon" section will bring tears to your eyes. I saw them on the following tour for the first time in Australia as a 5 piece with Rick Wakeman, had waited 30 years, was fortunate to meet them at a book signing in Sydney it was a dream come true. You should also check out a live version of Awaken, they're all great. All the best!
Dude, I get it. We get it. It's Okay! It's a phenomenon there to absorb and enjoy over and over again because there are nuances that you keep picking up 50 years running. I LOVE YES.
Enjoyed your reaction. Audience reaction to Yes is unique. Unlike rock band contemporaries, Yes audiences generally smiled throughout performances. A very different vibe.
I have a boot of a show I attended, and near the tape machine during I Get Up, I Get Down, a young girl asks her mother twice, “Mommy? Why are you smiling?” We know why. Btw, it was a monumental Close To The Edge that night. Amongst many others. Greatest show I ever attended.❤
Love your reaction. Love this song so much. Near the peak of the band’s form. Live And You And I. I have seen versions of this song in person that were beyond description or belief. ❤
Even though I have listened to and loved this song for decades, when I listen to this specific live version, I always get emotional. You phrased it well: this is a spiritual experience. To me, the orchestral accompaniment is what helps this transcend the studio version. I’m glad that this was recorded so that we can enjoy its magnificence.
There was a way on the DVD to omit the video stuff and just watch the live concert. Nevertheless, you should check out more songs from this "Symphonic" Live. It's great. "In the Presence Of," for one.
Yes is very "Spiritual" And this song causes people to cry because it is sooooooo "BEAUTIFUL!!!" Your reaction was "Great" That's what happened to Yes people when we first heard this song on the Close To The Edge album and then Live....we cried!!! Not a dried eye in the audience!!! Another Beautiful song of Yes is "Turn of The Century" from "The Going For The One" album released in 1977. A masterpiece album and a masterpiece song. This is your next song to react to>>>> "Turn Of The Century" by Yes. And Yes I requested for you to react to this video!
There's a better version of this without the crazy robot video stuff, there's a version of just them playing the song live. ua-cam.com/video/0tBVttKmeO0/v-deo.html
They call Chris "fish" because he named YES this beautiful band. YES is not an English word. Its meaning is FISH. (Shindeleria Praimaturus) Just as his creation, a solo bass section in FRAGILE.
I don’t think that’s how they got the name. Here is a UA-cam vid of Jon Anderson saying Peter Banks came up with the word YES the last minute of this 5 minute vid : ua-cam.com/video/SEdFDVok6H8/v-deo.htmlsi=t6OEaaYZVR6YLEqX

I STILL get goosebumps every time I hear this song!!!
You not only get to hear YES, you get to feel their music. Is probably the most spiritual of all the YES songs for me.

Truly amazing. Jon at 68! Granted still beautiful at 78. I also enjoy 'State of Independence' from that show tons. His solo album 'Change We Must' is him with much orchestration. Soaring. Ty!
Thank you so much for this suggestion!
You should watch "Ritual" from the same concert, even the keyboardist plays the drums and the bassist plays the timpani.
Glad I'm not the only one who cries when hearing this song.

the yes members said to make music in a studio was their job, to make music live was their passion.
I think that says all.
Удивляюсь сам себе.. А, ведь я из СССР! Привет из Омска!. Привет из Сибири! У нас всё хорошо!!! Классно поёте, играете ребята. Мне нравится!!!!
Dude, great reaction to a great song.

I know you really want to focus on the instruments, but Jon's vocals in this is just majestic. My favorite vocals of any song, by any band.
^ This.
Jon Anderson says when introducing this song live that it's like a fine wine - it gets better with age.
I really appreciate watching you FEEL the music the way I do! Jon's voice...Steve's guitar singing. My favorite band of all time, and it will never change.
Never.❤

I can’t watch this rendition without being moved to tears.

He might've been watching the Blu-ray where (for God knows why) you can't turn those absurd images off.
It is a beautiful show. ❤
I think their best live performance is Montreax 2003. the original members played tbe concert. it is amazing. Mike/ Tulsa, OK
They opened this tour with Close To The Edge! Please react to this with the symphony!
I did, but the video is blocked...

Tom Brislin was great on the keyboards! Now with Kansas
WOW! Did not KNOW that!
Goosebump always ¡¡¡¡
Thanks my friend
the orchestra throughout the whole show held back so they did not detract from the bands performance...they can be seen to be having a great time

The last two minutes or so isn't even music as we know it. It's a transcendent, blissful unknown.
