It was a risk and they knew it and they made it to the World Series. It was the execution that messed it up. No excuses on that but they knew it was a calculated risk. I’m happy with that risk. I would have been less if nothing was done.

It was a move... but they could have had soto for only money if they waited a year.

I’m not going to say if that would have been fixed we would have beaten the dodgers. But more than likely it definitely would have had us up 3 games to two instead of losing the series 1-4. Just Soto was one of the main reasons why we got there. Normally I would say let him walk but I just don’t trust this team in building beyond Soto. I've been unimpressed with cashman his entire tenure. He inherited the Core 4 like jerry reese. and despite numerous advantages(i.e payroll), he won only 1 WS when he spent half a billion in FA. Any GM could have done that. Their player development also stinks. During his 25+ year tenure, you have Cano, Judge, and 1.5 seasons of Severino and Chien Ming wang. that's really it. They are in a lose lose situation just like they were with Judge 2 years ago. If they dont sign Soto, they lost all those pieces in the trade. If they sign him it means they have all their money locked up in 4 players and for soto, they have a guy who needs to play DH or 1B after a few more years. I don't mind Soto wanting hundreds of millions; he'll likely perform up to expectations--although there is no guarantee. What I don't like is how quickly, after losing a WS, that was the first thing on his mind. He's asking for Ohtani and Mookie kind of money and respect, but those players, especially Mookie, would have not answered that question with delight and salivation. That was really disappointing. You want losing to hurt, like a broken heart when you're a teen-ager....that's what getting up the next day and shaking off that stink of losing is all about. Juan Soto’s defense concerns me not because I think his defense will have a vastly negative effect on his team. It concerns me because it seems like he puts very little effort into his defensive team. He doesn’t seem driven to improve. Giving a guy like that 600 million is scary. 4 years into that deal will he be putting maximum effort into being the best all around hitter in baseball? I feel like his numbers will start tapering off in his 3rd year of that 15 year deal. Also, he hit so well immediately when he was 19 and 20 it makes me concerned that he wasn’t 19 years old when he showed up.

They are in a lose lose situation just like they were with Judge 2 years ago. If they dont sign Soto, they lost all those pieces in the trade. If they sign him it means they have all their money locked up in 4 players and for soto, they have a guy who needs to play DH or 1B after a few more years. The only way they win is if they win multiple rings. and even with soto, that isn't a foregone conclusion unless they shore up other areas of the team.

I know base ball , dominguez is a question mark since he is going to be a rookie and is questionable defensively . Cant know what to expect from durbin since he is a rookie , cabrera is not a starter , wells and volpe are average hitters at best and santander is a hr ir nothing hitter who doesnt hit fir avg , hardly an ideal replacement for soto , i mean he had an under 3 war while soto had an 8 war . Other than walker and maybe durbin if they are lucky they are no better than this season which won 94 games , and that was with soto . Without him there is no way that line up wins more than 94 game and again i doubt they win more than 85 to 90 games .

I don't mind Soto wanting hundreds of millions; he'll likely perform up to expectations--although there is no guarantee. What I don't like is how quickly, after losing a WS, that was the first thing on his mind. He's asking for Ohtani and Mookie kind of money and respect, but those players, especially Mookie, would have not answered that question with delight and salivation. That was really disappointing. You want losing to hurt, like a broken heart when you're a teen-ager....that's what getting up the next day and shaking off that stink of losing is all about. That, to me, means he cares about his stats etc....kind of like Rodgers in NY with the Jets.

Juan Soto’s defense concerns me not because I think his defense will have a vastly negative effect on his team. It concerns me because it seems like he puts very little effort into his defensive team. He doesn’t seem driven to improve. Giving a guy like that 600 million is scary. 4 years into that deal will he be putting maximum effort into being the best all around hitter in baseball? I feel like his numbers will start tapering off in his 3rd year of that 15 year deal. Also, he hit so well immediately when he was 19 and 20 it makes me concerned that he wasn’t 19 years old when he showed up.
