Sometimes you don’t know what it will be like. it seems great at first but after a while the loneliness and stress of not knowing if they’ll
come home or not can get to you.
My husband went on two tours. the second he came home after hitting an IED which killed one of our friends and severely injured him and three others. That takes a toll on you.

Most military couples get married at 18 right before the husband deploys hence this couple being depicted as together for 10 years but still look young. Neither have any way of predicting what the next 10 years would look like or feel like or think that after 10 long years, your husband would still rather stay in than get out like most want to and plan to by that time. It’s very easy for people like you say things like this but I doubt you were able to envision or plan out your entire future at 18, let alone get married to your newly enlisted husband that you don’t know you’ll go the next 10 years spending more time apart from, worried sick about than with him. Military wives are very strong women that sacrifice a lot and deserve more compassion, understanding and respect than they get.

Ouch... that one's rough, yo. Ngl, I think the captain here needs to be evaluated to see why he puts so much of his self-worth on being a soldier. That's looking pathological right there. Wife still needs to face consequences for what she did too, but given the bit there at the end, I don't think she will. At least not from her husband. Legal might be another matter, even if he doesn't press charges.

    • @ElvenAngel

Toxic masculity, I think. Men are often raised to believe their only worth is in if they are brave and strong and can get things done, if they can take risks. Very seldom do they consider the feelings of others on this matter. Not out of malice. They haven't been TAUGHT to consider them and if you point this out to them, it often causes either a meltdown or a whole shift in perspective. He's got some blame, for sure. If he hasn't missed her for ten years, enough to say "okay, maybe this was good enough!" then something's wrong with him.

@@ElvenAngel Agreed, though I think it goes beyond even that for this guy. I haven't seen the show, but I suspect he has a family history of military service, maybe going back several generations. I've seen similar attitudes to this from people who've been raised in that life. It's literally all that some of them know, even raised to believe that they can never be anything else from the time they're young children.

    • @templesnack

Domestic violence is charged by the state not the victim. They press charges for victims because a lot of the time they are coerced/manipulated/etc. There are a lot of mitigating factors at play in this specific situation, so in real life i'm not sure if she would actually get jail time. I suspect they would indeed charge her with domestic violence, but would require her to get psych evaluations/do therapy/maybe sit in a psych hospital for awhile and get on medication. Putting her in prison wouldn't really make much of a difference in the long run. Especially since her husband's job was actually extremely dangerous and could have caused her trauma in it's own way. Imagine having paranoid worries about the person you love dying on a regular basis. The problem is it's not an irrational worry, it's not like being afraid of spider bites. Can cause a lot of mental health issues.

@@ElvenAngel Or maybe it was just his dream job and he's worked up a good position/history there. Perhaps he doesn't want a medical issue to cost him 10 years of his life because of something he can't control. Maybe he's worried that his entire source of income and benefits that he's been working towards will all be stripped away on a whim. The best thing early veterans have going for them is a fight with the VA over basic life benefits and a small departure check that leads to a deadend job at 40 years of age, of course he'd be upset.
You're so quick to assume "toxic masculinity" as if he couldn't have any reasons behind his emotions (such as financial stability and the entire course of his life so far), and acting as if there wasn't that entire last scene where she admits she didn't even try to have a conversation because she was too selfish to endure any hardship whatsoever. She chose to poison him over it instead of confronting him because she didn't want to deal with that discussion, because she wanted to rob him of any choice in his own life in order to live out her own selfish desires.

it's selfish, the idea that you don't want to worry anymore so you poison them. If you can't handle it, then call the whole thing off and date a person who isn't in the military. You may not agree with the whole idea of war/military, but that doesn't mean you get to make your own morals.

Men think TWICE before you get married, especially if you’re in a career, where you’re going to be gone a lot. I personally would just recommend dating. Then once you get out, then get into a serious relationship, then you’ll be home more.

What she did was wrong however she was driven there by endless worry and nightmares. Now a lot of u say well she shouldn’t have married him however at first she thought ok a few tours then he’ll be home. She didn’t realize he’d have Captain America syndrome. Don’t get me wrong God bless our warriors yall are badasses however some get “married@ to the service and forget their spouses. At the end he saw in her eyes that she wasn’t trying to permanently harm nor kill him but her love for him and fear of that knock on the door was too much. Again she was wrong but an argument can be made that she is crazy with fear.

@@abuhurairah6268That’s an extremely dumb take. If you can’t handle the fact that your spouse will be deployed then you shouldn’t have married them. He was not neglecting her, he was doing his duty. She is an abuser who could have killed her husband.

Well she was the one dumb enough to put up with Willing to be with a military guy And dumb enough to Be willing to be with Him every single minute of every single day When she decided to start dating and then marry him It's really her own fault for worrying so much Because in the end it's either he comes home permanently or he doesn't And the military can Sue her and arrest her For damaging property

@@thisisaperson660maybe you don't know much about this, but mental health is a huge stigma in the military, one word wrong from a therapist, regardless of a matter of truth can keep you from being deployed, from being moved to a new station, and in some cases denied reenlistment, and she isn't "made out" to be the bad guy, she literally is in this case, instead of talking to her husband and getting these feelings in the open she poisoned him to try and keep him from deploying ever again, not only that, in his eyes the doctors just violated HIPAA by sharing his medical info with someone without consent, who runs in a profession that can end his career, his reaction is very realistic when you've been betrayed on multiple fronts
