Jac is back and wanted to learn how to build a wire form buck. We chose the headlight for a 1937 Studebaker Express pickup. We show the viewers the model of the pickup and then one of the ways we draw it out using our magnetic board. Wray then makes a cardboard template of the light and draws it out on the table so as you're bending the wire you can keep checking it with the drawing. Once the pieces have been shaped according to the template Jac tig welds it all together. Our metal shaping classes started up again this past weekend and with the help of the students, all the panels have been made and hopefully they can weld them together before they all leave.

I think it’s great that you’re teaching this to so many people through these videos and in person.
PS: I’ve had good luck when teaching people to tig weld by having them put the tungsten tip right on the surface to be welded, withdraw it 1/8”, and then start the arc.

Just a idea but if you mount the bending rig on the table would make it quicker and less confusing. great video as always Wray thanks

      EVAN,
GOOD THINKING,BUT,IF YOU PUT HOLES OR SLOTS IN THE BENCH FOR EVERY FIXTURE AND EACH PROJECT. SOON,YOU'D HAVE MORE SLOTS AND HOLES THAN BENCH.
      JUST MY TWO CENTS....

Jiwbink not necessarily have different holes for different radius size and sure some would overlap. Would be a dedicated bench tho

its a good idea to keep your torch held over the molten metal as it cools and post purge on

Great to see Jac back in the shop but for safety she needs to remove scrunchie and rings and put hair up.
And especially that mic wire that gets caught in the roll it won’t be good.
Don’t want to see her get hurt from get any of that stuff caught on anything
Keep up the great work Jac stay safe. ❤️💪🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Great video 👍 I would put a marker mark on the bar to line up at the start point on the template.

Just an idea, if you put nails or screws every 1/4th inch or closer around the profile drawn on the table, you might be able to make the majority of the bend all at once. You might have to do some slight tweaking after, but it may make the process quicker.

Jac's going to develop some muscles from this project. (Much better doing something useful than wasting effort in the gym.) Measuring strength numbers before and after should yield some interesting comparisons.

Where do you buy the quarter inch rolled wire from?

    • @proshaper
      @proshaper  3 роки тому +2

Any steel dealer will sell 1/4" diameter hot roll. It costs about $2.30 to $3.00 for a 24 foot length.

You're using .25 in stock? I dont think you mentioned the size. Also, if I send you a $1.50 will you buy a darker lens for the camera?🤣🤣...great videos. Hopefully soon I can start building my custom hot rod body!

We have tried a bunch of different shade lenses for the camera. We haven't found one that works perfect yet. Standard tig welding lenses 9 , 10, 11, etc haven't worked well for us.

Jac may be easy on the eye ,, but she does need to rethink her dress code , too many dangles and too much bare skin, and a pair of protective shoes or boots , gloves etc ,, trouble is , its your workshop , so its your insurance , not being a party pooper , but thats how it is.

She will learn just as we did. A few burns later. I am happy just to see a youngin learning some metal trade skills hands on and actually wanting to learn. Someone has to carry on after we are gone.

Why don’t you move the table closer to the bender to save some steps?
