Step 1: Select Healthy Cuttings
Choose healthy, disease-free fig tree branches that are at least 6-12 inches long and have at least four nodes or buds. The best time to take cuttings is during the dormant season, which is typically late fall or early spring.
Step 2: Prepare the Cuttings
Using sharp, sterilized pruning shears, make a clean cut at a 45-degree angle just below a node. Remove any leaves from the bottom 2-3 inches of the cutting. Optionally, you can dip the cut end of the cutting in rooting hormone to encourage root development.
Step 3: Choose a Rooting Medium
Fill individual pots or containers with a well-draining potting mix. A mixture of peat moss, perlite, and vermiculite is a good choice. Moisten the potting mix thoroughly but avoid making it soggy.
Step 4: Plant the Cuttings
Insert the cut end of the cutting into the potting mix, ensuring the bottom 2-3 inches are buried. Gently firm the soil around the cutting to support it.
Step 5: Provide Warmth and Humidity

Continue to care for the cutting, keeping it moist and gradually introducing it to more light. Once it has grown into a small plant, you can transplant it to a larger pot or into the ground.
