Love Sondra's comment about moving and memorization. Pearl Bailey used to say she memorized her lines best when she was doing her housework...vacuuming, doing the dishes and moving. I've always put a score or script on the back of a couch or chair and walked around the room while I was getting ready. Movement is always something that seems to make things stick. I've been doing some interesting things with the first letter of each word in whatever paragraph I'm memorizing. ..writing those letters down in the paragraph and then going back and reading. The letters are like touchstones and anchor the words. I'm memorizing faster than ever now. Love your show!!!
It was wonderful to see the great Renee eventually relax and open up by the video's end. She normally seems so guarded, if not downright uncomfortable, in her hosting gigs at the Met. You ladies were terrific--BFF's indeed. Such an interesting interview. I guess it takes divas she respects to get a diva to finally be herself!
Essentially I'm Keri in this episode, cause ITS RENÉE FLEMING PEOPLE IN THE SCREAMING DIVAS! Im fangirling like there's no tomorrow and how oh how much i love this woman cannot be said enough ❤️ thank you so much for this amazing amazing, cool girls talk ❤️ love you all so much ❤️
August 10, 2019 was Renee Fleming in concert at the Santa Fe Opera, the last live performance I saw before the pandemic…what an amazing memory…she sang Kevin Puts’ “Letters from Georgia” and Strauss’ “Vier letzte Lieder”…AND, she sang those in the middle of a wind and rain storm in SF Opera’s open air Crosby Theatre😳 Thank you for all you do, Renee💕 And, thank you Divas Sondra and Keri for another great interview….makes my heart sing😘
I can’t begin to tell you how comforting it was to hear that you all still battle tongue tension and keeping support engaged! Thank you so much for keeping it real, and for all that you do. This series has been such a bonus during pandemic time. Thank you so, so, so much xxx
We all have tongue tension! Ugh! That whole strong abdominal core and relaxed and soft tongue, loose neck and head and face muscles....I work on those every time!
I would definitely want to see Sondra sing Traviata! We do have UA-cam snippets but gosh I'd pay to hear Sondra sing. Renee's right - we want to hear the singers we love and opera is one of the (very) few art forms where superstars can be absolutely any age (and I'd love to keep it that way - musicality!). Even just in concert. Even just on record. I'd queue up in the middle of the night to get one. Now I'm wondering if Keri will sing Traviata too. Would totally watch somehow, whether over video or live. And this episode was amazing. 3 great sopranos in one place(!) Thank you so much for making these! (I also find it a little reassuring that even pros struggle with support and have tips with clear explanations! Thank you for sharing the technical things too!)
Me too. i've never been to the Met before and am flying to NYC this Dec just to watch Ms. Radvanovsky's Tosca. The only best thing from the pandemic is for me to listen to the daily stream of MetHD and get to listen to Ms. Radvanovsky for the first time. An instant hook and I think she is THE Diva to me. Can never listen enough of her.
I've been waiting so eagerly since there was an Instagram post about this episode! It looks so interesting and Renée Fleming is such an important person in the Arts community as well as an amazing singer too!
Wow this is amazing!!! Three divas in one show!! I must admit, I haven't always been a fan of Renée, been more of team Kiri when it comes to sound and richness, especially in Strauss. But then I heard her singing Korngold, Ich ging zu ihm and BOY did I fell in Love!!! And realised that all of her hard work especially in Strauss had led to that amazing vibrant voice I heard at the Homage to Diva album, in Korngolds glorious Music!!! ❤️
Congratulations Sondra on your “Vissi d’Arte” encore! We watched it and were amazed (as usual) at how your voice just gets better and better! We will also watch the Teatro Real live broadcast on UA-cam. 😀 Much love, Vivien and Odette Iannetta
Oh.... speaking of voices on recordings....I heard Anna Moffo live at Alice Tully Hall ... she had a more soprano sound with a ping and point in the sound that she didn't have on recordings... where she had more of a mezzo quality .....
Wonderful conversation! Really smart and on point! I’m a teacher myself and I think all that pretentious terminology to teach these days is simply useless. We’re artists not machines, we need to feel what’s going on in our bodies, we don’t see it, singers need a guide to feel the sound and understand it in their own bodies. As for different tesituras: I’m a mezzo and teach every single tesitura, when I began to teach I was hesitant, but I’ve been finding that all the voice production regardless of gender are the same, it’s the minds that work differently! ✨☕️
That was quite on the more professional side but Renée's recollections or any other interest me a lot, so a great moment it was. Well, that "rapid fire" illustrated more than I could ever guess about her. And it capped off my wonder esteem for her.
The funny thing about interviewing Renee Fleming is that if you've read her book, you basically know the extent of the information that she wants to share.
Well, that’s three great divas on the phone! I first saw Renee at a Nozze di Figaro performance in 1991, and have been a fan ever since. But - don’t kill me - she does sound a little “Stepfordy” in this interview. I mean, c’mon Renee, it’s okay to say F-U-C-K!

OMG! I do love Renée Fleming. So smart and such a good singer. I have live performances of her seared in my mind. Thanks for having her on!
I do love Renee Fleming. I do! And I love everything she does. But Sondra is my (soprano) diva. Always! 💜
Brave tutti!
yes. I love Sondra much better than any other Soprano alive. Always

I’d pay to see Ms. Radvanovsky sing Violetta!

I would pay to hear Ms Radvanovsky sing the telephone book.
3 American divas!

I just discovered this channel! 👏🏽
Don’t stop!!
I like the talk about support.
Yes great episode. I had a baby sophomore year of undergrad- I took two weeks off before going back to classes and lessons. Man that was hard
Great Interview!!

*Idol*

Renee would like to be a scientist? I’m a scientist, and I’d love to be an opera singer!
I really wish Keri had let Renée answer Sondra's question about advice for young singers.
😍😍😍
I swear if Sondra doesn’t do Traviata I will teleport to Canada, knock on her door and beg on my knees.
Yes of course I’m sane, why do you ask?
Hahahaha

I wish they had spent some time letting Renee explain what chest voice is and how to use it to Sondra.
*I miss girlfriends too…
too much giggling.
