      Because usually that phrase is used when you're referring to something that has amazed you for a long time (years, lifetime?) but this footage had only existed for 7 minutes when he made the comment

      Ullage thrusters. The rocket uses small thrusters to make sure the engines are fed, then the engine lights, and the thrusters stop firing.

    • @keco185
      @keco185 7 років тому

      The G-force is almost always entirely toward the bottom of the rocket throughout the flight and that G-force actually pulls the liquid from the tanks into the engines once the rocket gets going.

    • @lebonjean7146
      @lebonjean7146 7 років тому

      When the rocket fires again for the re-entry burn, and the landing burn, there is athmospheric drag, that make the propellant pushed on the bottom of the tanks. For the boostback burn, I am not sure...
      Anyway, small thrusters are generaly used in rockets after stage separation, but I am not sure in this precise case that they are used...

      High speed footage is slowed downed footage, or slow motion. IT get the named high speed because to slow down video you need take a thousands of pictures, frames, per second. so when you play the video at normal speed,60 FPS, it looks slow because there are a lot more frames then there would be using a normal video camera. Rockets go fast, orbital speed is 40,000KPM, 25,000MPH.

    Beautiful shot, really makes you wonder why we can't reuse the first and second stages. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who has thought of this. The cost of having non-reusable parts are staggering in the cost analysis. That brings, of course, the whole design and engineering of fuel, engine type, etc. into focus.

    • @Niosus
      @Niosus 7 років тому

      The fuel required to bring a second stage of a Falcon 9 back home would greatly reduce the kinds of payloads they can launch. Falcon 9 just isn't large enough for second stage reuse. However it may be possible on Falcon Heavy and up. They'll get there, but first they need to get first stage reuse going smoothly and launch the Falcon Heavy before they can move on.

    • @motokid6008
      @motokid6008 7 років тому

      Elon said they're going to focus on Falcon Heavy. After that comes BFR/MCT so we may never see second stage recovery. Its just not worth the time and effort to bring back one engine. Maybe... Maybe if one day they switch to a Raptor methalox upper stage then it might be worth it.

    • @richardsommery-gade5603
      @richardsommery-gade5603 7 років тому

      Agree on the payload using current technology. If we were able to develop another system like magnetic or some other form of propulsion which may only be on the theoretical drawing board. With the way we are advancing on so many different fronts, it will only be a short time until someone says "why didn't we think of that before ?"

    • @Niosus
      @Niosus 7 років тому

      Richard Sommery-Gade The problem is Newton's third law. To move you need to push on something (you fuel after you burn it). That pretty much forces you into the rocket equation, which is the largest issue in rocketry when it comes to getting to futuristic stuff. Right now there simply is no way around it. We'd need to throw out a large chunk of physics as we know it for it to even become a possibility. Odds are we're stuck with rockets as we know it for a pretty long time, however luckily they're actually good enough for anything in the solar system providing we get the cost down. Only if we want to go to the stars do we need such a huge leap. There's plenty in the solar system to explore for now, so I'd actually focus on mastering that before we try to take it to the next level.

    • @richardsommery-gade5603

      knowing how we multi task in different areas, I wouldn't be surprised at something developed somewhere else covering a new approach. All we have to do is look at that platform out to sea for takeoffs and landings. Ingenious to say the least. My bets are on mans rush to glory and profits.
