    I have a 308 HMR and it will shoot one hole 5 round groups with hand loads. I would suggest reading up on shooting technique a little. Your form and consistency need some work but you will get there. Thanks for posting the video.

      I have been doing just that groups have been shrinking for me. Thanks for the advice. Been working more with a bipod. Seems to be a bit easier to get the right form and preload.

      What bullet, powder and load are you using? I can barely get three Shots under 1 inch out of a five shot group! 😕

      My best groups are with Barnes 130-grain TTSX bullets, Vihtavuori N135 powder, Lapua brass, and CCI large rifle primers @ 2.82 OAL (hunting load) or 155-grain Sierra Palma Match bullets and Vihtavuori N150, same brass, primer, and OAL. You will need to decide on the powder charge but I'm running right at the maximum recommended charges. Based on some of the feedback I've gotten accuracy with these rifles seems to be luck of the draw. Some shoot fantastic and some not so good. Mine shoots everything well but seems to prefer these lighter bullets which works out great for me. Best of luck. @@donwithrow5772

    You need to shoot the same way every time. 90% of accuracy issues is the shooter

      Yeah. I actually stated something like that in this video. The rifle can definitely hold its own. I have since ditched the cheap bipod and mounted a pic. rail on the rifle and attached my Atlas bipod. I can actually get some preload on the bipod and improved consistency. In saying that I am still working on my set up. The rifle actually shoots really good. Definitely can shoot sub MOA if I do my part. The 7.62 ammo not so well. I have actually been changing shooting position also to be come more rounded. Never really shot center fire off the bench always shot center fire off hand.

      What he meant was load your magazine and cycle the bolt without lifting your head while maintaining the same position to get better result.

    Good video for collecting real time data on how a rifle performs with good factory ammo

    Just a note, 3-4 positions not adding to consistancy

      Starting to get comfortable behind the rifle now and finding my position. Just have to lock it in.

      @@BehindTheTrigger0 I had to build heavy aluminum rests and double faced carpet tape them to bench to stop all movement. 32x scope was major help, if u can't see it u can't hit it.

    In my opinion you need to worry more about getting behind the rifle and making sure you have a good shooting position where you can duplicate consistently to achieve better shot placement also remember to practice shooting fundamentals

      Yeah was one of the 1st times shooting a centerfire off the bench. Was trying to find the right pressure and so forth. Definitely made some adjustments since this video.

    Consistent position, hand off forearm, lose death grip.

    Watch " The Real Gunsmith". He has two excellent videos on benchrest techniques for this type rifle and lighter hunting rifles. And for starters ,get rid of the bi-pod when on the bench, get a large Caldwell bag instead. It worked for me!

      @BehindTheTrigger0  Рік тому

      Same for me. I have an Atlas Bipod set up on my Bergara HMR but the best I could achieve was 1" groups. I took the bipod off and shot on my Caldwell bag like I do all my other rifles and the groups dropped to 1/2". This has been my experience before with bipods. I always seem to do my best shooting off an old fashioned bag.

    I would have broken in the rifle. Also I have timney hit trigger on mine set at 10 oz., 419 mb it does better job at control recoil and doesn’t mess with barrel harmonics like the Omni break. The Harris bipod is just fine.

  • @brodyd4676
    @brodyd4676 2 роки тому +1

    What grain are those bullets and what is your barrel break in process?
    I think I got lucky with My 300wm bergara! It shoots half moa 3 leaf clovers with store bought ammo and 3-4” groups on steel at 1000 yards its insane! I got a 308 bergara shortly after the 300wm but still haven’t shot it yet. I recently set up and broke in my sisters new 308 deer rifle “also a oddly accurate rifle” shot fed gold 168gr and fed gold 175gr both shot really good out of her gun just under 1/2 moa at 100 yards. 175gr won cause ballistics were better. But definitely Try some fed gold match.

    • @BehindTheTrigger0
      @BehindTheTrigger0  2 роки тому +1

      The way that I broke in the barrel was spaced out my groups so I didn’t over heat the barrel. I also cleaned the bore about every 10 on or so shots to 100 rounds. For this video I was using 167 g BTHP. I have also ran some 150 and 149 7.62 FMJs the groups were okay but no where close to the heavier 167 g. I plan on grabbing a few boxes of .308 hunting rounds off the shelf to see how it performs with factory ammo.

      My 300wm does the same with Borneo vortex 180g sxt . Folowed the break in process for the barrel methodically. I use pro shot one step cleaner first followed by pro shot copper solovent to clean the bore .

    Can this rifle be fired left handed without your hand being in the way when operating the bolt? I know there's a left handed version of the HMR but I wasn't always blind in my right eye and I'm pretty used to shooting right handed weapons. I tested the operation of a Remington 700 and a Ruger American with a standard stock while holding it in my left hand and operated the bolt with my right and the bolt runs into my hand a bit. I wonder if that'll be an issue with this particular firearm given it sort of has a hybrid pistol grip stock sort of like a Magpul.

    • @BehindTheTrigger0
      @BehindTheTrigger0  Рік тому

      Given the way the cheek riser is and the bolt throw I would think it would be an issue for a lefty.

      I definitely do not regret picking it up. On the heavy side for long hikes but a good weight for off the bench.

    Very inconsistent shooting position from shot to shot, why would you reach out with your forward hand if you have the bipod?

    Spend more time on your form before you spend another dime on gear.

      That’s what I have been doing. Did add a pic rail to the stock so I could run my Atlas bipod and that helped out a lot. Allowed me to preload the rifle properly. No more death grip to prevent bounce and no more jumping around.

    I have a B-14 HMR in 308 that shoots about the same (i.e. like complete sh*t). I'm not sure why anyone claims these guns are good. I think it was mostly from a gun-Tuber marketing hype campaign. Yeah...A 1-1.5 MOA-ish rifle (if you squint real hard and discount "flyers"), is far from impressive.

    • @BehindTheTrigger0
      @BehindTheTrigger0  Рік тому +1

      Definitely not a match rifle… Fed Gold meld is about moa at 100. Good enough for hunting…

      @michaelhill6451 Рік тому

      @@BehindTheTrigger0 Yeah. Same here. FGMM is about 1 MOA. I wouldn't be upset if it weren't for the fact that "Match" is in the name of the rifle. You definitely won't be winning any matches with it.

    • @Simon-talks
      @Simon-talks Рік тому

      I consistently get 1/2" MOA out of mine, as do many other shooters, so it must be the limitation of the shooter.
