Great to see Dave, Boate and Aaron in the cave. Fantastic watch. Thanks guys for a most entertaining view. Happy Christmas and a happy New year to you all.
I have it as a playlist. I'm sure you've all heard the Instant Remedy cover? So many awesome Amiga tunes still kick hard. There's lots of awesome contemporary remixes to keep you vibed 24/7.
Fondly remember the original Amiga Lotus titles, proud to have worked on the PS2/GC/PC Lotus Challenge game (circa 2001) and lucky enough to own a Lotus around the same time. I do feel that these Gremlin/MF titles helped make the Amiga platform feel more AAA and helped Lotus cars as a brand, inspiring us kids to dream of buying them later. Good times and fun video guys thank you!
One of my all-time favourites. I have a very vivid memory of playing Lotus II on Christmas Day '91 on my new A500+ while the table was being set for lunch. My mum complained that she couldn't watch me because constantly going up and down the hills was giving her motion sickness.
I played this one a lot when I was young and my favorite thing about it (beside the music!) was that there were so many environments and weather effects, which gave it an atmosphere and "vibe" that are hard to put into words. Also, the DOS version that I played had 3 cars, not 2, and (more importantly) there was in-game music. In fact, you could select which music track you wanted to listen to each race, like in Outrun. A classic this.
I used to drink with Shaun Southern in my local when I was in college. I knew he had something to do with games, but until a few years ago didn’t realise he wrote the Lotus games. An odd flex, but I’ll take it.
Me and a group of mates surrounding my friends Amiga and TV in his bedroom playing against the Lotus games was peak multiplayer gaming fun at the time. Although people in the audience are looking back at the logs and water that you have to jump over like it’s a bad game mechanic, it certainly wasn’t at the time. It was part of the challenge of playing the game against each other. It was never meant to be a Gran Turismo simulation type game. It provided hours of fun’s and I think the Amiga version is even better than the later Top Gear for the SNES. Shout out the developer who I feel didn’t get credit for producing such a brilliant looking and fast paced arcade action game. 👏
It's great to see a nice crowd gathering together at The Cave! While I never did play Lotus Turbo Challenge 2 back in the day. I did have a wonderful time with the Top Gear games on the SNES. My friends and I spent many, many hours enjoying them back then. The music while you played really helped drive the experience to even greater heights! I can still remember renting the first game, not really sure if it was going to be any good or not. But once I heard the opening music and saw the name Gremlin Graphics in the opening credits I knew it was going to be a good time!
I think the first time I played Lotus 2 was either slightly before or immediately after playing Lotus 1. I bought Lotus 1 as part of a compilation pack, and it either included Lotus 2 or else I already owned Lotus 2 and just gave 1 a brief run to see what it was like. In any case, Lotus 2 was the superior game and encapsulates what was good about the series for me. Regarding the lack of in game music in Lotus, I like just having the sound effects of the car and the environment, it's atmospheric and I wouldn't want any other sounds interfering with that.
I loved this game. It was literally Lotus 2 that made me love Lotus cars. I could only play it when i was around a friends house and they had Lotus 2, as we had a PC a home, so i would hassle them into letting me play it. As far as 12/13 year old me was concerned, this was the Outrun experience in the home. Until Lotus 3 came out on the PC with the KECS? feature that let you do some sort of procedural generation of tracks.
RECS I think was the procedurally generated tracks. Lotus 3 was impressive but those futuristic levels never sat quite right with me. Ignoring those I enjoyed it too
4:31 Missing a trick. Despite it being cheesy the He-Man film was actually good for the time. It was Dolph Lundgren who, you may not know as it doesn't seem to be mentioned much, has a masters in chemical engineering.
I am probably the only guy who has never played Lotus 2 and never played a Lotus title on the Amiga. I got Lotus 1 for our C128 (so in C64 mode obvs) from the UK so of course it was on cassette, and Lotus III I have only played on PC. So when my A500 is up and running, I have to rectify that and play all 3. Great show, guys! :)
I used to play this game on DOS (it was pretty much a straight port of the Amiga version - back when people were seemingly not aware that VGA could give you more than 32 colours on screen, anyway - but with FM music) and it was such a good game.
I think the different environments in the game was crucial to having an interesting game. The unique track loading screen and music gave you a feeling for whats to come. And being able to drive in the city and then on the snow in the mountains, and so on was great. I never thought it didn't make sense or anything. Just driving on regular race tracks or dry tarmac or asphalt would be so much more boring.
1, 2 and 3 all great racers. ZX81, C64 and Spectrum sequels on the Amiga... 3D Monster Maze, Lotus Esprit, Way of the Exploding Fist, Minder, Back to Skool and Trashman!!!! 🎉
Great game for Amiga, found Lotus Trilogy for sale in 2019, which includes all three Lotus games, and instantly they became my favourite Amiga games, at least for A500 which I have. Later found also Lotus Challenge game for Playstation 2, but it's made by different company. I've always loved cars and racing games. First one was Out Run for Commodore 64, have it for Amiga and PC as well, as the KIXX release had 3,5" disks for both. Also I enjoy playing modern games like Gran Turismo games on Playstation consoles, and Forza Motorsport / Horizon games on Xbox One S. In Forza Horizon 4 there's even an event about Out Run to play, using Ferrari 512TR, a facelifted Testarossa, that was fun as I had Amiga Out Run running while played that Forza Horizon 4 event on Xbox One S :D
Lotus turbo challenge 2 i played it on the Megadrive, i have a big softspot for Gremlin as they made some of my favourite games, Body Harvest by dma design supposed to be published by nintendo but end up with Gremlin and Hardcore 4x4 released on ps1 saturn and pc.
Yeah tried to contact shaun , but no reply. He helped a guy remake lotus on pc. So in frustration i had a look at the code myself and see that its extremely well written in a time were amiga knowledge was different from today. All in all its an Amiga gold game for me , but in sound, art and code and game play. Could it be done better ? Yes but not by much.... its very impressive and up there with the best of the best
Near where I live, there´s a car workshop that has a Lotus esprit on display. Its an old car but it looks cool. Regarding the game, it was cool but my favorite was Jaguar xj220.
Great video of a superb racing series. I was only playing the first 2 a few days ago. I did remind myself how bad outrun on the Amiga was before playing them and all of the Lotus games are a technical marvel for the Amiga. I agree that the half screen view on the first one was poor, but I did actually prefer the circuit based style to the point to point racing on part 2. That’s strange as outrun (point to point) is my all time favourite arcade racer. The AI was rather poor and it was more about timing your pass with their pre programmed zig zag across the screen.
I would actually see a new train simulator on the Amiga - Railroad Tycoon was great, but it had a bug (frustratingly I can't remember what it was now, I think it made the game too easy), and once you are aware of it the game becomes hard to enjoy for me.
As a lotus fan, the 'facts' are only relevant for the US market and doesn't reflect uk pricing in anyway. The cars also didnt stop being built in hethel in 2004
Happy Christmas! Please take a moment to give Amigos a big Cave Christmas hug by subscribing at youtube.com/@amigosretrogaming
Thanks for having us on Neil!
Great to see Dave, Boate and Aaron in the cave. Fantastic watch. Thanks guys for a most entertaining view. Happy Christmas and a happy New year to you all.
Lotus Turbo Challenge 2, had one of the best soundtracks ever.
One of the best games.
Turning up the music till 11 and having so much fun with friends!
True
Lotus 1 and 3 also had awesome soundtracks.
I have it as a playlist. I'm sure you've all heard the Instant Remedy cover?
So many awesome Amiga tunes still kick hard. There's lots of awesome contemporary remixes to keep you vibed 24/7.
@@VikingTeddy Yes. D4XX remade all songs from the Lotus trilogy. D4XX still make Amiga remixes after 30 years.
Jaguar XJ220 from Core Design, was another great racer for the Amiga, it also had a really great soundtrack.
Agreed good game. Quite like it on the Mega CD as well.
I loved the “Shop” music.
Yes! I played that one so much!
Yep. It's good. Not quite as smooth and playable as Lotus 2... More like Lotus 3 in that respect.

Great to see and hear John again, takes me back to the original TWIR

My 2 favourite channels merged together playing one of my favoutire amiga games!
I used to drink with Shaun Southern in my local when I was in college. I knew he had something to do with games, but until a few years ago didn’t realise he wrote the Lotus games. An odd flex, but I’ll take it.
The thing I remember the most about LTC2 is being scared of loading music for Fog course. 🤐
I had Lotus 2 before it came out in the shops, lol
Mr Chip did the Kikstart Games on C64, didn´t they? Kikstart2 (Construction set) was of my very first favourites ever. I was like...eleven?!
wow that was amazing than you all so much it was great to see john back really miss him on your podcast Neil
Two titans of retro combining into a tour de force of nostalgic entertainment like Voltron. Gotta love it!
Long life to Amiga & Subbuteo.

L-o-a-d-us, that’s gold!
Fun video, but where did that guy get those prices for the Elise from? Way out - Neil was closer to the mark.
This is awesome - love both these channels!
This game is brutal. But as a child mashing the button to just shout YEEHAW! Over and over was so much fun.
This was very cozy! Cheers to the Amigos! Lotus II (and actually I love III too because of the music) is one of my all time favorite games.
I loved this game. It was literally Lotus 2 that made me love Lotus cars. @@RMCRetro Those speed trap things they would have on the futuristic levels were so annoying!!

Lotus Turbo Challenge was one of my favorite games as a kid, I got to sit in a Lotus Esprit when I was 17, fit like a glove.
Really enjoyed this segment. Hope you all had a Merry Christmas!
Excellent boxing day video!!!! Thanks Neil and Amigos!

LOTUS = Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious
Merry Christmas Neil! Lotus 2 was a seriously impressive game for its time.
Lotus 3 had laps as well as point to point, so was a mixture of the first and second lotus game.
I used to play this game on DOS (it was pretty much a straight port of the Amiga version - back when people were seemingly not aware that VGA could give you more than 32 colours on screen, anyway - but with FM music) and it was such a good game.
the course with all the ice at the end was brutal

What was the frame rate? interesting that Lotus not in GT7, only the F1/3 cars in AMS2. i guess plenty i’m AC.
Magnetic Fields did a good version of BattleZone called MF Tanks featured on The One (Jan 95).
So glad you are out there.

From the title I was expecting 1980s spreadsheets!
My friend has a Lotus Esprit Turbo. I'm gonna fix it up for him next year. He also has an Elise.
I know Roy Race had a Lotus.
Hethel is in Norfolk
The C64 version has ingame tracks, or choose SFX. 3 tracks, but some iconic ones.

You guys are goatastic! I love Lotus! w00t!
blood money, classic
Bought the game on day of release. Happy times
I had it on p,irate before it came out in the shops, lol
Huh, I dropped out of a postgraduate degree at Sheffield University lol

No idea, worst UA-camrs, no clue
