I’ve got to ask what settings you’re using. I’ve been shooting with Fuji for nearly 10 years and I’ve never experienced the issues with auto focus you’ve demonstrated here. I’m particularly shocked by the number of images that are entirely out of focus. Edit: just wanted to clarify that I’m not insinuating user error or anything. Fuji af absolutely has issues.
I have not yet seen this issue with my XT30 ii. Granted, the AF is not the fastest but I have a feeling this terrible AF issue is only isolated with the newer models? I get the frustration.
I'd say you first need to figure out what you want from these cameras. If you want a main camera that works near perfect, go for Sony or Nikon. They make amazing products. I personally switched from the x-t5 to the Nikon ZF and I am very happy (I think the ZF or z6 line are great for travel). But if a more compact set up is also very important, maybe give Fuji another chance or go for something like the Sony a7cii. Personally, I switched fully to Nikon now, expect for one Fujifilmx100f that I will never sell. I would say that is a good solution if you don't want to leave Fujifilm behind fully but also don't want to keep on investing in Fuji glass. But who knows what the X-pro 4 might bring (if it ever comes). I guess there just never is a perfect camera!
@@larsingrainexactly this. I have a feeling every camera has some kind of quirk or works differently from what is expected. I also feel that every now and then every youtuber or influencer feels obliged to make a video along the line of I’m switching systems for this or that reason. It’s content that works and appeals to people. The only danger is people following this trend and wasting too much money on gear because of this.
Jay, Go into the settings menu, and change focus/release priority to focus, for both single shot and continuous. Also put it on high performance mode. Those might help.
AGREED! I have no issues with fuji whatsoever for what I do so I don't plan to move out of the system, so I hope all the people jumping on the bandwagon and selling all their gear drive prices down and I can get good lenses for cheap!
I switched from Fujifilm to Nikon a year ago, more precisely the Zf for its somewhat similar look and feel. Initially because I wanted a full-frame camera. But the autofocus was the biggest surprise for me. It is so great. No idea how it compares to Sony or Canon, but for me a night and day difference from Fujifilm.
I swapped my XS-20 for a Sony A7cii and I absolutely love it. I enjoyed the Fuji quite a bit but having full frame and impeccable auto focus is amazing
If you're just a hobbyist, consider waiting for the next firmware update before selling your gear. If they improve autofocus in that update and you've already sold your equipment, you might regret your decision. However, if the next firmware fails to fix the autofocus issue, that would justify your choice to switch.

Bang on suggestions my friend! I come from Canon and for static and moving subjects it is the same techniques for me. I will duplicate this with my new Fuji X-T series!
I switched from the XH2 to the Nikon Z6III this summer. I love Fuji, but needed better AF. I miss it, but the AF improvements, especially in low light, were worth the switch.
I’m considering selling my XT4 and all of my primes and jumping to the z6iii. I shoot a lot of concerts and have captured some great images with the XT4, but definitely feel it underperforms when comparing to FF… I just love the look of the XT4 though :(
with the last firmware update, the xt5 and H2, h2s AF-C is literally dead. if they don't fix it by this moth, I'll switch my camera system.. at this point, there is no point of using fuji system. especially compromising the autofocus.
I left Fuji in June, after shooting them since 2016. Went with Canon because I just can't stomach Don't. Nikon looks pretty sweet too. I have access to free Canon lens rentals too, so that was a major motivator. For me, the Canon R3 is perfect for everyday shooting. Occasionally I want more mp, and for that I have TopazAI, or I rent an R5. Autofocus is heavenly, though mostly I adapt vintage Leica M glass.
Welcome on board the autofocus mess train!! Took you a while to be honest. I would never advice anyone to do this (or rather do it on their own risk) but downgrading my xh2s to firmware 1.03 was the only solution for me. I couldn't use autofocus reliably for any of my work ( mostly video)
Yes, they told that AF-C in new models is a big mess. I have X-S10 and X100V and focusing is great. This may be a really pricy mistake for whole Fuji brand
Fuji lover since the X-T1/X100 days here. The A7s has been calling my name since inception. The siii still does. I have pert near every Fuji prime and don’t want to start over, but I also have kids now and missing moments isn’t cool. Don’t know what to do either! The Sony’s always feel lifeless to me and the Fuji’s give me my “film feel” connection and fix. But I also want good low light video of the kids…. What to do!
Love my x-pro3 but I did end up getting a Nikon Zf as well. For my casual walk around stuff I still grab the x-pro, but the Zf is my go-to for my concert photography because the AF is far more consistent in low light. The Zf isn’t perfect either, but it works well for me!
I was considering fuji (Nikon user since 1980) but the prices are way to high for what they are so I am now looking at Zf. What are your thoughts and when you say "not perfect" what do you mean? I know that there is no such thing as perfect but what are the negatives you see in the Zf?
@ the biggest will be the absolute need for a grip on it. I told myself I didn’t need it with the 40mm f/2, but once I got anything heavier the Smallrig Grip was a must. The screen is mostly nice with the way it flips out and rotates, but sometimes its annoying not being able to flip it downwards like I’m used to (This is a personal preference). I also would’ve liked a better way to move/select my AF point. Fuji has a little joystick, my older canon had one as well, but the Zf just has a d-pad. It works pretty well, just not ideal. To be honest the Z6 3 might be a technically better fit for me (in the hands/ergonomics wise) but I’m a sucker for vintage styling.
@@savorybagel Thanks for the feedback. I understand the issue of grip as I have an FE and FM that I bought new back in the day and I always used them with the motor-drive for that reason only. With non movable focusing point, I don't have an issue because I always focus on subject and move camera accordingly. Cheers and thanks
get a Leica M and if you miss focus it will always be your fault. You might think it's slower, but it's not (once you've put in the work). If you buy it used (lens and body), you can pretty much try it out for free because of the value retention
I was going to suggest the same, but he could also just adapt manual lenses as well and practice. I don’t understand why a street photographer would only rely on autofocus in my opinion 🤷🏾♂️
yeah am enjoying some aps-c manual focus lenses for street but they have a tiny focus throw between 1.5 meter to infinity so am struggling to build consistency. am thinking full frame m mount lenses are going to be the way forward.
Hi .. I've just bought a Sony A7C .. I'm blown away by the instant locked on focus ... plus the full frame Raw files .. I've still got my Fuji cameras, which are older models and I'll never get rid of my X100F , but I'll never buy into the 40mp newer Fujis , hence the Sony try out .. the Sony is very impressive.. I'm glad I took the gamble .. regards . Simon
My x-t1 and x-s10 work for me. Landscapes, cityscapes and people shots. These two do everything I need, and I have had my x-t1 for 8 years. I have also done night street photography in London with the x-s10 and the 60mm f2.4.
A couple of years back, I went from Fuji over to a Panny S5 onto a Nikon Z6, then sold it all and bought all my Fuji stuff back and now my wallet hurts.
I own an XT5 but have tested the XH2 and XH2S as well. There are serious issues with the subject detection in these new models in my opinion. Mainly false positives. I usually switch to zone focusing to be able to get better results but I believe my XT3 performed better that these current cameras. I mainly photograph pets and people and nearly always moving and moving fast. I hope the firmware fix comes in the next week or two, that way if it doesn’t fix the issues there might be some good Black Friday deals on other brands 😅
I love Fujifilm. It takes amazing blurry photos and pulsating videos. It never had a reliable and quick way to verify manual focus without an external monitor, and I always ended up filming 3 hours of footage, just in case, where 30 minutes would do if I was sure I got everything in focus.
I often use Voigtlander lenses… they are manual focus only and fun to use to boot. I think as photographers we rely far too much on auto this, and computer controlled that. There is something really freeing about using purely manual focus lenses; one really has to work for the shot, which makes the process much more rewarding-just my opinion. But yes, I have noticed that my Fuji AF system is not the best. Mind you, it’s no worse than my Nikons…and at least my Fuji cameras haven’t fallen apart like the newer Nikons. I guess no system is perfect…..
My problem with Fuji in photography is its terrible buffer-clearing time... once after 500 pics, it becomes unusable. Happened with XT3 and XH2. Going back to Canon for photography. Staying with Fuji for video.
I totally get your frustration Jay, I am in the same shoes. I have to add that for a long time, I wasn’t aware of how serious the AF issues were. I spent a week in Naples in October, and I’ve got completely unusable photos of some scenes. So, I totally get your frustration, especially since we’ll probably never go back to those places, and those moments are lost because of bad AF. Right now, I’m still in the culling process, going through my photos. Luckily, most of them turned out fine, but I’ve had issues with street photos, particularly when I used AFC. For now, I’m just waiting to see what happens. My problem is the same, I’ve gotten used to the Fuji system, invested in it, and I don’t really want to switch to heavier gear.
I'm honestly not sure why so many are having issues with AF. Is it just the tracking modes? I was also just in Seoul with my X-H2 on latest firmware and I was very happy with the performance and photos. Barely noticed any missed focus etc.
@@dave.mac.dIf I can save you the trouble, I did this exact thing and it’s a huge regret for me. I am switching back to Fujifilm. I somehow forgot why I left Nikon for Fuji 8 years ago. I shot the same event two years apart, first year with the X-T5, tough lighting environment, dancing etc. Shot the event this year on the Nikon ZF which I bought for it being full-frame and its autofocus. After doing a side-by-side there was virtually no difference between the two. Maybe a slight bit more noise in the X-T5 but not anything crazy. The ZF’s photos are sterile and uninspiring. Lightroom denoise there really is zero reason in my opinion to make the move and I’m trying to figure out how to get back to Fuji without losing a boatload of money.
Just came back from India where I took thousands of travel stills (streets, people and landscapes) using my XT-5. Face detection was problematic, with the camera sometimes putting a box around the entire subject or just not finding the face. Eye detection and single point focus using BB focus worked fine, with over 90% of the shots in focus, and those not in focus due mostly to my using too slow a shutter speed. I shoot my environmental portraits at F4 to put the subjects in context, but can blur out and darken the background in Lightroom if that works better for the shot. I never upgraded firmware beyond V.2.
I've kept my X100V but sold all my other Fujifilm equipment and gone back to Nikon. Had enough of having to compensate for the failings of the system, having to overshoot and also the responsibility to my coomercial clients and wedding couples.
I’m a little surprised that you have not at the very least checked out the firmware update to be released before the end of this month. I mainly use my Nikon Z9 but really enjoy my XH2S and will certainly not jump on the Fuji dump bandwagon until I checkout the firmware update. I also never did have an expectation that autofocus will match my Nikon. Enjoy your videos, thank you.
This is one of my biggest contention points w/ Fujifilm as of late and why I've slowly decided to move away towards other brands right now. I've been looking into the Canon R6 Mark II, which might be better all-around due to Canon's much better autofocus. It can't be convincing to move back to Fujifilm from this point on unless they've managed to fix all these issues. But i got an order for an X100VI coming soon, so we'll see what comes of that!
I goto facebook groups for Nikon D750, D700 and D850 and I see people using those DSLRs for weddings, landscape and wildlife photography and I see amazing stuff there. I use D750 to photograph young families with kids under 10 and yes, the autofocus and weight is an issue but I make money withy work. I think the issue is with UA-camrs watchings other UA-camrs switching or using Sony. Look, Sony has been the best in AF for a very long time now and I believe most content creators will eventually switch to other platforms once their subscription rate slows down.
I'm sorry for you but I just don't get it, I've been using Fuji gears for more than 10 years and I never had such issues. Yes older Fuji cameras had a rather slow autofocus but they've improved dramatically over the years and just because they don't have the best autofocus doesn't mean it's bad or insufficient. Last week I shot a birthday party in different light conditions, inside and outside, including on the streets, and not a single image coming from my X-Pro3 and X-T3 and X100V was out of focus. Now video is a different story but, again, I don't know why so many of your images are out of focus. Did you change your settings? Did you drop your camera or lens(es) on the ground? Fuji cameras aren't perfect and for everyone but they're unique and they have a soul just like the old Leica cameras had. Cheers!
While I loved my Fuji film cameras and the I took some of my favorite shots with my XE4, I found myself missing more shots than I wanted to focus wise so I ended up selling it all. I now just have a Ricoh GRIIIX while I figure out what I want to do full system wise
i sold my X-h2s and X-h2 as the auto focus has gotten worse and worse and its not acceptable ,replaced them both with sony but the feeling isnt the same its more accurate but sterile
I used to own a Fuji XT-5 and XS-20 system with a full set of lenses, which I absolutely loved. However, I wanted more versatile fast zooms, so I decided to switch to a full-frame Sony system, specifically the A7C II with the 24-50mm f/2.8 lens. Unfortunately, I had an unfortunate incident with that camera, which led me to move on to the Lumix system. Now, I couldn't be happier with my choice. The colors, functionality, and overall quality of Lumix cameras are simply top-notch, and they perfectly meet my needs.
You are not alone!!!! My XT4 ruined a wedding, because my best photos weren't in focus. In overall, the job went well and client Love all photos, but I can't believe the amount of photos that were blurry and like focus was on behind subject when I was 2 meters. AF on Fujifim suck's and that's a reality. I dont believe Fuji will fix this AF problem in the next firmware update. Being a Fuji wedding shooter for the last 9 years, (XT2, XT3, XT4 and Xpro2) and I believe I will switch brand (Nikon or Sony). I can't rely on Fujifim for a paid job. 9 years for fixing AF on cameras is a lot of time nowadays.
Great video! I’m a wedding and event photographer and after missing so many shots due to the autofocus on my xh2 and xt6 cameras I decided to buy a canon r6ii with the rf28-70 lens and omg I’ve never missed a single shot ! The difference is night and day and now I’m going to just keep my xt5 for personal use and I’m buying the canon r5mkii 😊 I know even if Fuji does come out with a fix still the autofocus won’t never be even upto 60% good as the rest but the Fuji colours are still better than canon even though Fuji is crop sensor! I’ll still keep my gfx cameras and gf lenses because it’s still the best for image quality and I only use Fuji gfx for still subjects
I filmed an entire wedding on my Fuji XH2s, it only missed focus once or twice across the whole day. I used the Fuji 33mm f1.4, don’t get me wrong I’ve got a Sony as well and autofocus isn’t as good but I don’t think it’s bad enough for me to leave Fuji
I had this problem a year or two ago with the xh2 after getting back from a trip through south east Asia. That was me done with Fuji and I bought a full frame Sony system. After almost two years using Sony I do miss the retro control layout so just bought a Nikon ZF. Feels like a better version of the Fuji with better build and image quality and much better AF. I can use my e mount sigma I series lenses on the Nikon with an adapter.
X-S20 user here. I’m most frustrated by the fact that single point AF-S can’t consistently hit critical focus. Even the most basic of AF features don’t work properly. If Fuji doesn’t release a working update within the next month, then I’m done. Already have my eyes set on the Canon R8
CAF on the X-S20 is now bad. Used subject detection recently at a cycle race and is unusable. Tried bike and also face detection both were useless. Also tried custom setting 4 I think it was to ignore obstacles and it just didn’t work. Went back to using single point AF. Glad I am just a hobby photographer but still it is. It good. And before any comments how did we manage in the old days. Well I started with a full manual film camera and the focus aids were better than any available now and also as the lenses were manual and not electronic it was much easier. Hope Fuji fix the AF soon.
I was heartbroken when I picked up a new puppy in August and my X-H2 missed focus on about 75% of the pictures and most of the video. Thankfully my girlfriend took pictures on her phone. If this new firmware doesn't work out that camera is essentially a $2000 doorstop
I’ve been using Fuji since 2012 (X100t) until this year Xpro 3 and Xh2, Autofocus has never been as fast as Sony etc but I hoped when I got the Xh2 things would be different but no, it seemed to be worse, getting Autofocus confirmation and then finding those shots out of focus was the last straw ! This is when I changed to a Sony A7R5 system and for Travel I use an A6700 for a smaller lighter camera and lenses Now I couldn’t be happier!
Feel the same… I picked up a a7rv for my event work and am waiting this month also to see how the update goes for my xt5…. If it doesn’t fix the problem, it’s gone. A real shame because I love the Fuji images and tactile camera experience for so many reasons over my Sony camera!
I'm only shooting an X-S10 so the AF issues never effected me, but they do look unacceptably bad on the new cameras. And I mainly shoot landscape in the mountains and city, but rarely ever 'true' street photography with people, so how I shoot never really needs super fast AF. Fuji has really dropped the ball though, and they better rectify the situation with the next update or I think there will be a real exodus, at least with pro photographers. One of the best things about Fuji for me is the third party lens support, as my only native lens is the 16-80, so I'd be more inclined to shoot Sony if I had to switch. Or I might even go back to Nikon, looking quite good these days especially with the RED luts.
I have a Fuji X-S10 and a Panasonic S5II, it is perhaps not fair to compare a sub 1000$ camera to a > 2000$ camera but the S5II autofocus is just on a completely different level than the X-S10 which is ironic considering that Panasonic was behind everyone in autofocus up until the S5II. I still love the small size of the X-S10 but the poor IBIS and semi good autofocus doesn't really make me buy into the fuji ecosystem, if Panasonic releases a new tiny MFT body with good autofocus and their excellent IBIS (panasonic IBIS just needs to be experienced to understand how good and fun it is for video) then I will sell my X-S10. If Fuji had slightly better IBIS (especially for walking) and autofocus I would instead pick up a X-S20 without hestitation because I love the video quality and recipies.
Hey Jay! I think we all know about your love for Fujifilm, but your issues with autofocus are totally valid, you should try Sony or Canon and see how it goes for you! It's not like you're gonna stop shooting on Fuji cameras, and maybe in a future they will have a better AF (i'd hope haha), anyway! It would be interesting to see that transition in the channel if u decide to try other systems!
if you decided, try and sell your 2 out of 3 cameras and buy for example sony and you'll see if its worth it, I got my x-s20 that I bought recently without knowing this issue, the af is not perfect but this problem cant last forever and with this pressure from consumers as for my positive thinking, they could do it. at least I hope. and if yes and if its start to annoy me ill just sell it and buy sony a6700 or A7c. but still love the fuji for what price I got it.
I’m still waiting for the new firmware and I also double carry a Sony a7r3 with my Fuji XH2S. I will decide on whether or not I leave Fuji after the firmware release. But most likely I might migrate to Nikon z6iii.
The first time I experienced Sony autofocus, I laughed out loud. It was like having a robot to focus for me. And that was an a6000 😅. Sorry I'm already subscribed. Good luck 🍀.
I had the same thing last week doing some corporate shots. Eye AF was awful. I was shooting an XH2. Really disappointing. Just makes everything hard work and more risky
What autofocus mode are you using in street? I never have those problem in AF-S on street and we don't need eye or face detect when doing street. Technically, only AF-C, face, and eye detect are bad from Fuji. But lucky for me I'm a street & landscape photographer so it is working fine for me.
Oh nooo... Just when you announce that you're bummed with Fujifilm's autofocus, the camera hunts a bit... 😅 Your point exactly. I Haven't noticed any issue on my X-H2S, but I can totally understand how disappointing it can be. Are you shooting in AF-C or AF-S?
Also, waiting for the next firmware sounds fair. I've mostly only used Fujifilm for the past 9 years, so I can relate on how daunting changing systems could be!
Are you recording this on a Fuji? Because it lost focus slightly even with a talking head video. When the X-H2 was released I was so excited. It promised amazing AF. As a Fuji fan since their X-T1 launch I was stoked! Finally Fuji's AF problem will be fixed! This curse been a laughing point for a decade. Rushed out to try it. Yea... was better for sure but still disappointing. Tried it several more times over the span of a month. I really wanted to work. Nope, just wasn't good enough. On whim, while scratching my head in frustration at the store, I fiddled with a Sony A7RV. WOW! AF just nails it. Handed it to my spouse and they were also amazed. They were not a tech or photographer but still saw how much better AF was. They actually felt confident using a f/1.4 lens and nail focus. Fuji it was just burst, spam and pray. Sold multiple Fuji bodies and a dozen lenses. Painful transition. Bought into the Sony world with an A7RV and several GM lenses. It felt like a X-H3 of the future made available early for twice the price. Been ultra happy since. While browsing around I peaked into what Fuji was up to. Turns out Fuji AF gotten even worse! Was surprised but yet also not surprised. Felt like I dodged a bullet.
It's now from months that finally the community start to talk and admit the FUJIFILM AutoFocus issue. Unfortunately too man people on YT just try to please the camera manufacturer to get some advantage but at the end they ruin the market. FUJIFILM need to fix the AF issue soon.
The interaction of Fuji people in the comments vs the message expressed by a working, enthusiastic, photographer is the real content. I do product photography for my work, but shoot for passion. I started on Nikon, went to Sony, and have used everything shy of medium format for fun/pro because photography friends love to share gear. I have been considering moving getting a Nikon body, but if I'm being honest, we are in a strange transition period where cameras customizations are either something you love or hate. With three dials and three buttons, I can change every aspect of my shooting style in fractions of a second. If I need to be entirely focused on my action framing, I have the means to narrow my necessary control to two buttons which ensure proper subject acquisition and exposure. This is with the newer 3x custom dial Sony bodies, but I've had similar, less quick (by about half a second), results with an a7iii. To raw images I honestly can't pick a manufacturer unless it's for video. If it's video I'd go sony or nikon. There's just the right kind of flexibility to where you won't need to schedule a do-over. For stills just do what works for your workflow. The image quality out of these cameras are all fantastic, and even SOOC is fantastic. Every manufacturer has a kind of "film sim" level of jpeg color processing. Expect developments occurring in that space especially with the latest which became available to panasonic/nikon where luts can be processed on photo/video in real time. Sony has picture profiles, but they aren't yet as customizable. Also don't get into leica unless you have the money to deal with cameras needing maintenance. Their support is regional, and specialized. In a foreign land? Your camera needs to go back through your local supply chain for repairs with an estimated 3 mo wait.
Your camera brand isn't a monogamous relationship... Sell a camera and a lens to afford the sony/canon camera you want... keep one of your fuji's because you love them. It's not an either/or if you can make it financially viable to shoot both. Every brand will have issues that make you question if you should look elsewhere. Just make sure you're doing it at the right time. I've used every brand at this point and I switch over when I find a good enough deal, when my current system has the best resale value, and when i don't have any important shoots coming up. Don't overthink it!
It is sad to see, maybe just get a sony for videos and keep your Fuji for photos. I cannot leave Fuji, I know that camera so damn well, it will be super hard to adapt to a new system. The Nikon Z6 III looks attractive but also does the price! There is for sure an emotional attachment to fujifilm but if you have to make money with your videos Sony seems to be the route... I might do the same when I get paid jobs, everyone in the field seems to be using sony and want second shooter using the same system.
Hey jay! Ive been a fuji user since I started photography back in 2019, I remember the first time I saw the Fuji x-pro 3, The newer x-T4... Those were my dream cameras, heck, even when the x-t3 was released it was REMARKABLE, but we are at the point that the lack of features and af performance compared to other brands is unexcusable, for the amount of money a cheaper and smaller sony of the a6000 can outperform fuji, even nikon released recently a apsc. Canon released a better entry level full frame, they have their own apsc that shares the same RF mount. One of the selling points of fuji was being cheaper but it has been more expensive and bigger but with less reliability, even the used market it so overpriced. Underwhelming updates with high price tags... To be honest im a bit dissapointed. My Fuji x-t5 is gorgeous but it has some setbacks compared to the x-s10 i used to have. Your concerns as a content creator, youtuber, artist, and entreprenour are totally justified.
I use Sony fullframe and Fujifilm X-T's and always reach for the Sony for paid work for its consistancy in both autofocus and exposure. I love using the Fuji's, the ergonomics are way better than the Sony and for personal work they have an organic less digital look to the photos. However, since I discovered film sims for Sony I'm in two minds about keeping the Fuji gear, I may keep the 16MP X-T10 because of it's sensor and tiny size or may succumb to a X100 lol. If you go with Sony I'd go for a low mileage A7Riii - great sensor, I prefer it to the 60MP. Oh, and face detection on the Sony is pure witchcraft!
I'm tired of fuji loyalists constantly stating "it's the user" in one way or another. "What are your settings?!" Rubbish. If there are magic settings that make the autofocus work, the camera should have those settings already when you take the camera out of the box. I just sold my X-H2s and moved to Nikon ZF. Miss the film simulations but if the shot or video is out of focus it's unusable anyway. A film sim wont fix that.
There are some early reports that the X-M5, with the new firmware, is showing some big improvements. Probably worth waiting for the first proper reviews before committing though.
i got a sony a6400 and i wanted to get a fuji xs20 but this videos worries my a lot. i mainly do travel photography and video (short content of me). do you think is a good call to switch system ? should i upgrade to sony FF like a7c ?
i just bought xs20 new for really good black Friday price, didn't do much with it but I don't had any problems, yet. its my third camera but ill give it a shot if I already bought it. if not, switching to sony a6700 or A7CII if the price drops maybe after a year. but if you find good price for xs20, I wouldn't hesitate too much. this problem cant last forever.
Exactly what a lot of us are feeling.......Yes ,have been checking every day for the firmware fix not calling it update..... have been a fuji shooter for many years from bridge cameras to dslrs since 2005.. latest 3 are xt2 then xt3 with the 100--400 mm lens and x1.4 teleconverter now xh2s with the 150--600mm and Im only a hobbiest bird photographer but when you get bitten by the bug you keep going for better [supposedly] so I do not really care abouit new cameras on the market [popping up like pies ] I want mine fixed. It is a great camera [or was] .Birds in flight are a pig to photograph and I love it. they come or go or appear wherever they feel like which is moooooorrrreeee of a challenge. Still if it is fixed I will consider another addition ...the 500mm prime.... have to wait and see.
@ got the Z6ii with 28 f2.8, 40 f2 and 24-70. f4 the x10 is a special filmic camera from 2011 great for short travels, weekends and when I need to shoot jpgs for family and friends stuff.
For years, influencers have been saying they use the fujis for fun. They dont need all the goodness of their "work" camera. The cluez have been there for years.
What camera, lens and f/w were you running whilst even recording this video, because I can see the AF struggling all the time with just your talking head stuff. Did you never roll back to 1.03 yet?
Wow, somehow these Fuji AF videos keep popping up in my feed - as if the YT gods know I have another Fuji now :D I'm quite curious how your peers of Fuji users see this issue? (e.g. not sure if you are in contact with Roman Fox). I came from Canon + Sony and I left them because these cameras were too boring, big and heavy. But if AF is priority Sony and Canon are the leader, closely followed by Nikon nowadays. The Nikon Zf e.g. has the latest Nikon AF tech in it and is so to say the camera, Fuji will never build - a full frame retro camera. I love that thing, although it is for me personally too big :D It tracks my kids with no issues and I also shot a wedding with it. No AF issues for me (although I would say I feel the difference Sony being better). That being said I currently going backwards regarding AF. My latest purchase, the Leica Q3 43 has awful AF. Leica simply stil can't implement good AF in their cameras and it is worse then Fuji. But I still enjoy that camera so much because of the output and the form factor. In addition I shoot a lot of film lately and here I embrace the manual focus experience. I know it highly depends on everyones personal preference and goal, how and what you should. Sony, Canon and Nikon are nowadays reliable if you need that tracking AF. With my Leica Q3 and recently XT1 I currently shooting old school by using single point AF and recomposing like I do on film. Don't know, if my rant makes sense, but I think waiting for now is the right move and I think Fuji is highly aware of the issue. Crossing fingers that firmware update will solve the issue. Otherwise I'm really curious into which eco system you would dive into :) All the best mate!
I subbed this this channel for the Fuji content, not sure if I would stick it out for other brands, but you need to do what is good for you and your business prd. I hope they do solve those issues asap.
I have both Fuji and Sony. I brought both cameras out one day to photograph my kids playing in the park. My kid was on the swing so I was taking photos of her using continuous shooting and face detect AF. 90% of the shots from the Sony A7CR were in perfect focus. Then I switched to my X-T5 and it was an absolute joke. I would say maybe 1 out of 10 photos hit focus. It's really sad and I'm hoping Fuji fixes the AF issues soon..
Blurred photo, bad focus. I was replying it is an artistic choice, no I just said it is a fuji shot. 😂 but on my XT-30 II it is useable even if average. Nikkon goes up at the moment, but I find the Z serie too big for me.
Fuji AF is fine if you have time to work within its limits. If I go out knowing I’m going to be in dynamic situations, I grab the Sony. The Sony is not nearly as fun to use, but it gets the job done.
I figured something that doesn't solve the problem 100%, but helps. I found that if you halfpress - wait - full press, then you'll most likely get something in focus, but if you full press too quickly, the AF is not completely always there when the square is green. Another issue i'm assuming could be with the IBIS (I have an X-T5). I'm assuming that sometimes the IBIS malfunctions regardless if it's turned on or off and jerks the sensor just enough so that your whole picture is blurred. The official EU repair shop couldn't solve the problem, they gave me a completely new camera and updated firmware to the newest, so instead of having to dump 30% my photos, it's maybe like 2-3% that is unexplainably faulty. Also, I tend to overshoot now. So as for a model photoshoot I'd come home with 700-1200 photos and then I'll use about 200 of them. But then if you wanna use it for weddings or sports, then I guess just get a Sony or Canon.
Just wait for the update! Fuji has changed my view on photography and made it more enjoyable. The problem is that photographers nowadays are looking for perfection. Photography has never been about perfection. Even missed focus shots have been praised in the past. They know about this issue and they are working on it. I'm not moving to another brand. In the end, Fuji will have the best autofocus on the market.
I bought X-H1 + 23mm f/2 with already installed latest firmware. Originally I thinking to buy X-T5 but AF issue moved me to buy xh1. And I need to say - no AF problem! It's different than on my previous Nikon and Canon cameras but it's totally ok to takes photos how my son running over waves on ocean.
As someone who owned (and absolutely loved) a Fujifilm X-T3 for around five years until around June this year…I sat looking through my back catalogue of photos and much like yourself found that more photos than I had previously noticed had missed that ‘critical’ focus on shots taken on trips I may never take again….I bought an X-T5 anyway as I thought it was a natural upgrade. I sold it recently as for the money I spent it just didn’t feel like enough of an upgrade (admittedly I was probably influenced by the mass outcry of their autofocus issues). I love Fujifilm but you can’t sell cameras for over £1000 and expect consumers to wait over nine months for software fixes. I haven’t bought anything else yet but will be moving over to Sony, probably to an a6700 due to how much cheaper apsc lenses are.
maybe share with us from all the photos you took how many were out of focus? No matter what camera system you use, some will be out of focus...you can't just blame Fujifilm for that.. we are always ready to blame the brand when in reality the problem lays with the user not actively focusing on what he wants to capture..
That's certainly true when using manual focus, but there is an issue with this firmware. Fujifilm admitted this. When you're getting focus confirmation from the camera and the images are out of focus, it's a camera issue. It's a firmware issue. I get more out of focus shots on the X-T5 than X-T3. It was the opposite until I upgraded the firmware on the X-T5.
Don't you think your crying over out-of-focus photos is a bit naive? I am aiming at all those who have fallen into laziness and leave everything in the hands of software and especially AI. What traces of your DNA does a photograph carry, when an automaton does everything for you, for better or for worse. Then what should photographers say who photographed wild animals or war conflicts on the analog Nikon FM2 and F3? Take it as nothing is perfect and where something is missing, there is more elsewhere. Good luck with the new Firmware... I'm happy with my X-T3 and the bad photos are just a reflection of my imperfection
Well, I'm was in the same boat several months ago. While I still have a few Fujifilm camera's and lenses left after I've sold my X-T4 and X-H2S I decided to make a switch to Leica after more than 10 years of Fujifilm loyalty. I still love my pocketable X-E4 + Voigtländer 28mm Ultron combo which is my daily carry. And my better half still loves to shoot on the X-T5. But I'm not wholeheartedly a Fujifilm user or fan any longer. So I got myself an M11, a 35mm Summilux-M as well as some beautiful Voigtländer VM lenses. Full manual just does it for me and in some cases it even works better than any fast and fancy fancy auto focus system. Though I'd love to try out the Nikon ZF because, just like my Leica system does, it simply puts the fun back into photography. Moreover, it has good and reliable AF, a great build and a wonderful ecosystem of lenses (let alone an entire world of adaptable vintage lenses). Above all, it's full-frame, which outperforms any APSC system in just about any area (even with a 26MP sensor).
I didn’t get this! So when you bought your Fuji camera did you except it to be on a Sony autofocus level ?? I don’t think so ! So why did you bought into this system ? I’m still using my lovely x pro2 , my x pro3 and I’m even still using the O.G. X100 which from 2011….which has a slow as hell focus system !I recently bought the Nikon ZF which has a way more better focus system…but I’m using it with manual focus lenses,I bought it because I wanted to try something else besides Fuji which I’m using for more than 12 years now! Sometimes you miss shots in life, but for me it would be the most boring thing if I would catch every shot with an absolutely perfect focusing system!! I think it’s all about expectations! All the best !✊🙏
It's not about the AF speed, it's about Fuji suddenly losing focus on AF-C or showing a green box even when it's not in focus in their latest models (XT5/XH2's). My X-T3's AF is currently more accurate than my X-H2's with the latest firmware.
mostly about consistency , when firts camera release consistency its good and reliable enough , after last update just make camera not reliable make every things like 50 50 u maybe get green box lock on the screeen , but the photo not always in focus
Tell me your feelings on this issue?
It is good people are leaving Fujifilm, I hope it becomes a trend. Maybe prices can start going down on used gear.
AGREED! I have no issues with fuji whatsoever for what I do so I don't plan to move out of the system, so I hope all the people jumping on the bandwagon and selling all their gear drive prices down and I can get good lenses for cheap!
Us bro us.
Please yes its insane they think they can compete on price when the gear is not pro worthy
Same, I will be watching the used market like a hawk even though I already have a camera for every generation of the x trans sensor 😂
@@villegas24 Looking at prices of xe4 makes me wanna leave Fuji too.
Cool now tell people about the pathetic grip.
@@Zainphotography No problem with how I use the camera with smaller lenses and for larger lenses I use Nikon's original extra grip.
I swapped my XS-20 for a Sony A7cii and I absolutely love it. I enjoyed the Fuji quite a bit but having full frame and impeccable auto focus is amazing
I jumped from a7cii to xpro 3. I love it
@@kamilsvitakthe xpro’s are some beautiful cameras
If you're just a hobbyist, consider waiting for the next firmware update before selling your gear. If they improve autofocus in that update and you've already sold your equipment, you might regret your decision. However, if the next firmware fails to fix the autofocus issue, that would justify your choice to switch.
When is the next firmware due?

I couldn't use autofocus reliably for any of my work ( mostly video)
same I rolled back to 1.03 on x-h2s and am happy
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
I'm glad I took the gamble .. regards . Simon
I am a Nikon user since 1980 and I was actually looking at getting a Fuji camera but the fact that they are so expensive I am having second thoughts.
My x-t1 and x-s10 work for me. Landscapes, cityscapes and people shots. These two do everything I need, and I have had my x-t1 for 8 years. I have also done night street photography in London with the x-s10 and the 60mm f2.4.
Cool
I sold alll my fujifilm cameras and lenses and went with. the Nkon ZF and Nikon z6iii. Great AF and 3d tracking.
Thinking of dong the same move, and it's very temping atm with the 500€ discount on both cameras
A couple of years back, I went from Fuji over to a Panny S5 onto a Nikon Z6, then sold it all and bought all my Fuji stuff back and now my wallet hurts.
@@rickbaines8262curious why did you sell and come back to Fuji again?
i mostly use a x100v and an x-pro3 (mostly with a 35mm) and i rarely notice the AF not working the way i expect it.
You using CFexpress?
Why im switching to Nikon Z7 for my professional work
I'm honestly not sure why so many are having issues with AF. Is it just the tracking modes? I was also just in Seoul with my X-H2 on latest firmware and I was very happy with the performance and photos. Barely noticed any missed focus etc.
That said, I am considering making the jump to full frame. 😅
@@justinkohl3818 I do video as well, but I'll stick with Fuji for now. Too much time and money to switch systems.
I don't know why I would ever use continuous autofocus.
My Zony ZV1 MK1 has better autofocus than my Fuji XH2s but I’m not swapping anytime soon
Cheers!
The AF issues is mostly with the latest firmware for the newest Fuji models such as xh2s, xh2, xs20, xt5
Can't you try manual focus?
While I loved my Fuji film cameras and the I took some of my favorite shots with my XE4, I found myself missing more shots than I wanted to focus wise so I ended up selling it all. I now just have a Ricoh GRIIIX while I figure out what I want to do full system wise
I love my Ricoh GRIIIX! I am highly considering buying an XT-5 but at this point I'll probably get a Sony a7cii or a6700 for better autofocus.
i sold my X-h2s and X-h2 as the auto focus has gotten worse and worse and its not acceptable ,replaced them both with sony but the feeling isnt the same its more accurate but sterile
I’m switching to canon! fujiflim has been upsetting for me this wedding season.
Jesus man, you have 100k worth of gear 😅
Already have my eyes set on the Canon R8
we can even hear the clicking sound from the fuji autofocus in this video..
I sold all my fuji gear, it was so close to being great, but it just isn't
Sounds like a skill issue
Nikon Fan boy here. I've stayed with Nikon for 16 years, I will continue, I am with them in the good and the bad.
This is when I changed to a Sony A7R5 system and for Travel I use an A6700 for a smaller lighter camera and lenses
Now I couldn’t be happier!
Feel the same… I picked up a a7rv for my event work and am waiting this month also to see how the update goes for my xt5…. If it doesn’t fix the problem, it’s gone. A real shame because I love the Fuji images and tactile camera experience for so many reasons over my Sony camera!
Use the gear that meet your needs. Yours are not others.
In the same boat. Waiting for the next firmare before I go Nikon or Sony
Nikon Z cameras are also very good.
I loved my X-T2! Cheap on the used market!
Sony and fuji havijg exodus i left sony for lumix and thr regular lumix s9 for that matter
Bb ❤️ all my love to you and Roman we wiil miss the fake used prices ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
I'm tired of fuji loyalists constantly stating "it's the user" in one way or another. "What are your settings?!" Rubbish. If there are magic settings that make the autofocus work, the camera should have those settings already when you take the camera out of the box.
I just sold my X-H2s and moved to Nikon ZF. Miss the film simulations but if the shot or video is out of focus it's unusable anyway. A film sim wont fix that.
I'm about to pre-order X-M5, does that also have AF issue? ☹
There are some early reports that the X-M5, with the new firmware, is showing some big improvements. Probably worth waiting for the first proper reviews before committing though.
yes the same af system
i got a sony a6400 and i wanted to get a fuji xs20 but this videos worries my a lot. i mainly do travel photography and video (short content of me). do you think is a good call to switch system ? should i upgrade to sony FF like a7c ?
for video fuji i joke :D whole the time af hunting even on f8
i just bought xs20 new for really good black Friday price, didn't do much with it but I don't had any problems, yet. its my third camera but ill give it a shot if I already bought it. if not, switching to sony a6700 or A7CII if the price drops maybe after a year. but if you find good price for xs20, I wouldn't hesitate too much. this problem cant last forever.
Done mate
I’ve sold everything Fuji related except the x10 and go to Z system
What did you get? And why kept X10 specially?
@ got the Z6ii with 28 f2.8, 40 f2 and 24-70. f4 the x10 is a special filmic camera from 2011 great for short travels, weekends and when I need to shoot jpgs for family and friends stuff.
I loved those days when Fujifilm X series cameras were considered "niche" and that nobody was going to buy them.
Wow, somehow these Fuji AF videos keep popping up in my feed - as if the YT gods know I have another Fuji now :D
I'm quite curious how your peers of Fuji users see this issue? (e.g. not sure if you are in contact with Roman Fox). I love that thing, although it is for me personally too big :D
It tracks my kids with no issues and I also shot a wedding with it.
Otherwise I'm really curious into which eco system you would dive into :)
All the best mate!
I subbed this this channel for the Fuji content, not sure if I would stick it out for other brands, but you need to do what is good for you and your business prd. I hope they do solve those issues asap.
You mean to say you didn’t sub for my clever british banter 😉
I have both Fuji and Sony. I brought both cameras out one day to photograph my kids playing in the park. My kid was on the swing so I was taking photos of her using continuous shooting and face detect AF. 90% of the shots from the Sony A7CR were in perfect focus. Then I switched to my X-T5 and it was an absolute joke. I would say maybe 1 out of 10 photos hit focus. It's really sad and I'm hoping Fuji fixes the AF issues soon..
Can’t subscribe twice, so I’m forwarding to friends.
There will be more people like you leaving Fujifilm. Looked at the Sony and feels so much better in many ways.
Exactly THIS! I now shoot more bursts specially in events.
Wait until the update to see what happens at least. But in the meantime, it sounds like a perfect excuse to get better at manual focus.
I love fuji and the recepies ♥️ its the best for me. ✌️✌️
This is not new. Fujifilm has always had the worst AF in the industry. I don’t even know why people keep saying they are best for Street
Dear FujiFilm… You’re losing us.
