5 Mysterious Features of Ancient Monuments (You Didn't Know About)

- This ancient Lego-brick-like feature is the surprising secret to one of the biggest mysteries of Stonehenge.
Recent findings suggest that the ancient builders of this iconic structure were far more advanced than previously believed, particularly when it came to the methods they used to connect the massive stone slabs.
The solution, which has recently been compared to the interlocking mechanism of Lego bricks, consists of small bumps on some stones and corresponding impressions on others.
Known as a mortise and tenon joint, this mechanism is a simple yet effective method of joining two pieces of material together. It consists of a protruding tenon carved on one piece and a corresponding mortise, or cavity, on the other.
The two pieces lock together when the tenon is inserted into the mortise, creating a strong and stable connection. In Stonehenge, the builders used this technique to join the upright stones, or "sarsens," to the horizontal lintel stones that span across them.
The use of mortise and tenon joints in the construction of Stonehenge required astonishing precision and skill. The builders had to carefully measure and carve each joint to ensure a perfect fit, a task made all the more challenging by the immense size and weight of the stones. Some of the larger sarsens weigh up to 40 tons, and the lintels can reach lengths of over 10 feet.
The builders understood that a system to lock the stones together was necessary for their monument to stand the test of time and serve as their legacy...
I’ve been to Machu Picchu twice, along with many other Inca sites, and it’s blatantly obvious when you’re there that two different cultures, utilizing VASTLY different construction methods built them. I know saying that makes me a kook in the eyes of academia but it’s too prevalent to ignore when you see it in person
Vero. Visto Olimpia in Grecia e la penso come te. Colonne cadute gigantesche( cadute ) e spazi enormi.
Academia lies. You are not a kook.
Observation comes 1st
One of the most fascinating features of Mach Picchu is that the mountain in the background of the site looks just like the upturned face of a human with closed eyes.
It does sort of , you need to be careful as there is a false video out there that has photoshopped background to look exactly face like
On Colorado there is a mountain called "sleeping indian".
Its amazing to me that looking at Stonehenge, the Pantheon, Machu Pechu, how well building methods were done and until it was described you don't see it. Then once it was said, we say "OMG! That makes perfect sense! And its plain to see right there!"
And to the naysayers, stop with the negativity. Enjoy these videos for what they are. Bringing light to something we the main masses would have not known and educating us. From there, you can develop your own theory(ies) and hypothesis. 😊😊😊
Yes, but most people are just tourist looking at the big picture, the camel ride and a few unique selfie shots, few of them are masons, quarriers or engineers who are interested in detail and those who are generally do it as a personal hobby for their own interest not public exposition. Though when you get them talking and listen rather than interrupt and digress them you can learn a lot.
Sphinx done a whole load of sand-coke, hence its nose has gone.
Sphinxy Nicks
What else could have possibly caused it ?
😂😅😂
Supposedly French Napoleonic artillery members, being boys, shot it off but others say it was missing long before that invasion of Egypt, some say there are tool marks suggesting it was deliberately hewn off (though maybe the French did it to tidy up the damage). See the Wikipedia article.
Henge was rebuilt with a crane many years ago
A replica of Stonehenge was built decades ago in maryhill WA. This is where those photos came from.
@Giggidy-kc7eg there's a smaller replica built near San Antonio Texas, I drove past it a few months ago
Aliens built the original Stonehenge. Cavemen drew on their cave walls what they witnessed. It was even Notarized*
Probably very many hundreds of cranes and maybe dozens and dozens of ducks and geese too lifted them into place, early man generally preferring beasts of burden to wooden mechanisms for their mysterious constructions.
'Secret' joints, which you can just see right there on the stones which have been visible for centuries. Yes... secret...
and they where put there by crane in the early 1900 there are picktures of it on the internet stonehenge was remakde by modern man the original stone work was all falling down
Amazing! Heard information that I've never heard before. Well done 👏
The info on machu pichu was rubbish . The different styles of building are from vastly different ages in history and not adapted for earthquakes which is a ridiculous theory probably based on sativa dominant strains they were smoking at base camp
Throughout Egyptian history as one group gained power, there was a deliberate effort to erase all traces of the predecessor from history. Many, many paintings and hieroglyphs have had the faces and heads chipped away. Statues were desecrated and parts broken off. Noses seemed to have been a popular place to start.
The sphinx is 19 meters wide at its rear. There is no way the tail is 6.5 feet in length. Its diameter is probably 6.5 feet!
he loves to include BS like this - to generate comments - congrats - we just did what he hoped for....
My mind went elsewhere after hearing “secret joints” - little bummed, not gonna lie.
Puff dust past
Very interesting video as always D5 👍👍
I've sat on top of the trilithons, at one of the Stonehenge Festivals in the seventies.
Amazing histories
Thanks great video
Thank you
Thank you for another great video. Cheers
The Sphinx tiny ass human head was definitely NOT the original head.
How do you know
It's missing a "crown" piece Egyptians wore that balance the size.
@@mikerentiers negative
No, and it was likely a statue of a jackal, not a lion. It was also likely hewn long, long before the mainstream assertion.
It was a carving of a giant nubian watermelon
the tail is 65m not 6.5 m
DNA DNA DNA = STONEHENGE WITH THE CAPS !!!! Love John !!!!
This guy has the most off putting speech cadence I think I’ve ever heard in my life.

This is new and fascinating info! Love your channel & Thank you! ❤️🐆🐈⬛🐈💕🙏
Machu Picchu looks like somewhere I'd love to live the rest of my life at. Such a beautiful place in a remote part of our planet. I pray I can visit one day.
It was designed to be habitation for people for centuries, but the people moved away.
That was built 12,000 years ago. We have forgotten the ways of our past.
Great job on this video.
Most people don't Stonehenge was rebuilt in 1950s. Who knows what was changed.
It did not represent a lion. ----------------------- The Sphinx represented a Jackal. I know this theory and it is why the base is more dog shaped yet upper part was carved down to honor a more recent 'kang'.
Also...there is a different water line at it's base, suggesting it was in a flooded area LONG ago. ...swampy lowlands or such.
I thought it was a giant carving of a watermelon.
I heard it was a lion also but never knew about the Jackal.
Stonehenge as we see it today is not how it was initially found. Stones were toppled when found and later "restored" and put back into place. If you visit the site you can see signs of it particularly on the bottom side of one of the standing stones. A lot of people are not aware of this. I saw it when I visited in person and looked into it more.
9:48 - there has to be a reason those stone walls are zig zagged and not straight. 🧐
Either for defensive purposes or just following the cliff line
Those walls are at Saqsaywaman, another Inca site near Cusco
Letto che come x città a stella poteva essere per protezione dall'acqua ,inondazioni
Zigzag adds strength without making the wall thick. Saves material.
We’ve known about Stonehenge’s Mortise and tenon joints from time and memorial
Mortise and tenon
@@jandrews6254 thanks for calling my attention , damn autocorrect
I think you meant time immemorial 😊😊😊
Anyone remember great pyramid had 2 germans steal part Pharaoh markings and found it was 1800s paint.?
Stone henge has been disassembled multiple times in the history, so none of that is new.
The sphynx tail is very well known....the door at the top its head less so.
That's how long cabins were built.
I think the original spanks had a lions head

Stonehenge was completely flat on the ground until parts of it was reassembled in the late 1800’s.
Hasn't Stonehenge been taken apart and reassembled at least one time? I don't think this is anything new, the notches I mean.
The interesting part of the Stonehenge joinery is that they used woodworking methods to build a stone structure in the first place.
@@MrBudPuphin if it works for wood, why not on stone? 😊😊😊
Yes, they keep moving it back and forth to account for daylight savings time.
Yes it has.
Black kings built the Stonehenge obviously
Stonehenge looked very different 5kyears ago. The British weather of rain wind, ice and snow have left its mark on the monument.
I want to know more about Machu Pichus water system.
What amazes me is how great ancient sculpture is compared to the two dimensional art of the time. Would like to see that comparison.
Make joints of stones is not as difficult as you think. You make depression in one of the stones first, make a mold and then when making the protrussion on the other stone you simple make it fit to the mold. I.e. you don't need to match the original hole.
That sculpture proves that I time traveled because it's really just me from the back.
Thiccness
The Egyptians found the Pyramids and unburied them.
Had not seen anything from your channel in a long time, and I was subscribed before. I couldn't remember why I unsubbed.
Heard you start talking and remembered why.... I miss the old Dark5. Reading is so much more powerful than hearing someone talk.
Thats why the didn't use mortar in machu pichu if they did it wouldnt exist today the mortar makes it too rigid
This is first time hearing of terracotta acrobats. Fascinating.
Glad it was a terra cotta army and not actual people and animals like in other tombs.
The Spinx is way way older than the pyramids it resides next to. The stones that make up the base of the Spinx and moving upward are worn away by water. This is not so for pyramids nearby.
Why does the sphinx have the outline of bricks or blocks in the Picture of its rear and tail?
An attempt at preservation, the original stone is badly worn.
nice to find lego goes back to the stone age...
The ugly and disproportioned features of the Sphinx are core replacements for the elegant and proportional features of Anubis, Egyptian god of death with an elongated dog's head.
Lol what folks don't know is that Stonehenge never looked like that. They reconstructed it in the 50's when they were "restoring" it.
6:14 moghwyn palace
The secret of the sphynx is the chassis
Chassis?
@jandrews6254 yes the black genius also created the wheel
If they fully understood earthquake issues, they wouldn't have had to change their building techniques m.
Many researchers no longer think they did. Look into the architects and engineers that are becoming more vocal about the lack of understanding that historians and archeologists have applied to sites like Machu Pichu. Many people disagree with the current narrative and paradigm established because the Inca "empire" only lasted 150 years, and nowhere did they claim themselves to have been the architects or builders of the megalithic architecture or terraces on the site. Because of design, construction and material similarities with other megalithic sites around the world there is a growing school of thought that suggests these sites could have been built by previous inhabitants long before the Inca and that they, like many other cultures around the world, repaired it as best they knew how when they took up use of the site. That's why the construction methods changed, they were built by two different cultures and time periods.
@@benjamincrowley9919 understand, but no one who has been listening to the local folks believe that the inca had anything to do with the older, larger and precise stone work
Have they x-rayed the terra cotta army?
Fake Stonehenge that have been moved
Hmm, if I was one of these secret engineers I'd use a straightish pole or branch and lay it between the tops of the two adjacent post stones and pound my holes in having used the pole to measure the pointy bits on the lintel stones (being sure to spin it over as I had my trusty child laborers raise it into position).
Stonehenge is done to death. Weak lead lol good vid just worry about ppl clicking off
The sphinx wasn't built by the ancient Egyptians, it was built by a much older civilisation, and was originally a lion, the Egyptians just changed the lions head to make a pharo type image 🤔😜
It could have a jacket 😮
Jackal@@sueerickson9988
Archaeologists believe that the Great Sphinx was built during Egypt's Old Kingdom (circa 2575-2150 B.C.) by the fourth-dynasty pharaoh Khafre.
I thought khafre only found it
@@justin80082 the water erosion around the Sphinx was either the Noah’s flood ~6k or the Younger Dryas flood ~12k years ago. The Pyramids of Giza show evidence of salt intrusion on them. This shows they are older than what the history says they were created. Khufu may have changed the face of the Sphinx during his time. He may have claimed the pyramid as his because he was Pharaoh at the time.
I want to find the secret joints of Stonehenge and smoke them with Led Zepplin
lynyrd skynyrd and Freebird more like :D (Guitar Hero \o/)
- actually, i knew all of these. . .
👍
it was build by alienssss 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The sphinx did not look like that when it was originally found poking out the sand
there is actual photos of it and its features were totally different
Look at the stone seen through the left arch.... The outer stone is just facade !
The surface behind it is a different color, and is smooth !
Why does no one mention this ?
The Inca inherited Macchu Picchu This is what was told to the Spanish
The hushed, urgent tone and cadence is a bit too much. But the content is really cool and curious.
How about dangerous books... Not evil but dangerous. Well evil too
Chinese sculptures met greek sculptures and voilà... Somehow it sounds like bs to me...
Far too often historians and archeologists of the past struggled to believe that other cultures separate from white western cultures were capable of high art and awesome achievements all their own without outside influence. Sadly the pseudo-intellectual invention of an "aryan invasion" has been used by many myopic researchers of the past few hundred years to try and white wash the achievements of Asian cultures from India, Cambodia and China as well as African cultures from Egypt and Ethiopia.
Were did all the Egyptians go did thay just build a space ship and leave
They're still there 👍

and they where put there by crane in the early 1900 there are picktures of it on the internet stonehenge was remakde by modern man the original stone work was all falling down
oh look, the body of the sphynx looks like a dog or jackal's body.
Definitely does not match the proportions of a jackal. They are quite lean and the Egyptians depicted many in relief, sculpture and paintings, the proportions are certainly lion-esque. The debate about the original head is one thing, but the body has been identified as a lion for millennia.
The paws of the Sphinx are that of a Jackal canine most assured not that of a Feline or Greater Cat if any size or time.
@@seandavidslipp1821 Which paws? The ones seen today that have been bricked very recently in an effort to protect the bedrock and restore the monument's visual appeal or the thousands of years of depictions of the monument, including photos, we have in the historical record from multiple cultures in the region ALL of which depict a lion's body? This entire suggestion of a Jackal is very recent and can be traced back to questionable sources at best. Not to mention that the connection between jackals and Anubis have very little reason to be featured in that position on the plateau. Also, the proportions do not add up, as the neck of a stylized Egyptian jackal would be far too thin to be later carved into a human head with a nemes headdress.
Lego brick like structure? Legos don't use mortice tenon connections.
what do you think the little circles on lego bricks are? They are mortice, the underside of a lego brick may not be strict tenons but the thin walls that fit the protrusions on another lego piece function quite similarly and certainly well enough for an analogy that serves this video quite well.
Erm title of ya vid is all wrong lmao..

What is really behind the Sphinx? It’s sphinxter of course
no those were emperors gay lover statues!
The tail of the "SPHYNX" was a snake representing the "PHARAOHS" power!
make your voice natural, and your going to get more attention.
Aliens must've built Macchu Picchu. There's no way uncivilized primitives without wheel could've constructed such an advanced city at the time.
Who says they were uncivilized? Just because they didn't have a concept of property and ownership, doesn't mean they weren't civilized. .. we are less civilized now, than they were back then.. property is an anchor, the concept of it is to control how far you can travel, it's a method of taxation, and you believed you can't live without it...
The Incas had said that they were built by Giants.
Why aliens? Humans have been engineering with stone for 10,000 years and macchu picchu is relatively new.
I wish he would talk in a normal voice, it’s kind of annoying.
It’s hilarious listening to people pretend to understand ancient Egypt.
It's hilarious when internet pirates pretend to be educated...but don't state and facts or hypothesis to support themselves.
also machu pichu's massive drop in building quality was in response to earthquakes!? thats that solved then 😂
