    Thank you for showcasing our neck of the woods my man. What a memory you made with strangers now friends. This is what we do out here. Or at least it's what I do out here too. The salmon fishing, the hike in fishing. The foraging. The elk. That is the real PNW Outdoorsman. Awesome stuff. Thanks Robert. 🎣♥️🌲🍄

    Very much remember May 18th, 1980. Warm day, all us kids thought it was snowing. lol
    Later went up into the West Hills of Portland where we could get a good view of the mountain and just stare.
    Crazy how much nature has rebuilt after that, haven't been up there for a long time. Close, but not up to the mountain. Do remember going up years later with school to the viewing area and seeing the desolation that was left.

    I spent 30 years in Colorado and did the same fishing and foraging. Blueberries, black berries, strawberries plus all the great eating tons of mushrooms of all sorts

    Happy to see you back in the PNW man! I do wish the Addicted boys would've planned better for you and had adequate gear. It can get pretty cold on the mountain nights.
    And leaving the tent and other items behind.....PNW people are usually pretty environmentally conscious so I'm disappointed in them for that. Excited to see what the rest of the trip looks like!

    Chris Mccandless from Into the Wild did not die from mushrooms. He consumed wild potato plant and it disrupted his digestion and basically caused him to starve to death.

    • @chris6054
      @chris6054 Місяць тому

      McCandless consuming wild potato is one THEORY, yes. It's never been proven. Regardless, the point should remain the same.
      DO NOT CONSUME PLANTS YOU CANNOT IDENTIFY.

    Hey dude!
    I passed you on the trail. You all were hiking out while we hiked in. Fun fact, that camp you guys stayed at used to have a gigantic pile of garbage that other lazy hikers left behind. I'm bummed that dudes as cool as you guys would leave your tent behind. live by the mentality leave no trace please.

      @mikehatch1967 Місяць тому

      As you heard them say earlier they hardly took anything with them they had to forage for there food. I hardly think k Rob is going to leave a bunch of trash not his style

    • @FletcherS92
      @FletcherS92 Місяць тому +1

      @@mikehatch1967I hiked to this lake the second day he filmed this video, no it wasn't a bunch of trash, but that tent they set up in the montage, was left behind completely set up in the spot they had it in the video, inside was guitar picks from a music shop in Kelso, Washington where the addicted boys have a store front, gushers wrappers, and the bag of seasonings they use in the video. I'm not mad at him, it's just disappointing. He even makes a joke about lightening the load for the hike out.

    • @shane108
      @shane108 Місяць тому +2

      Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints. He set a bad example for those who follow him because the more people who do this, the less beautiful our beautiful places become.

    • @FletcherS92
      @FletcherS92 Місяць тому

      @lucasholmgrenmusic the tent isn't a community resource. it's going to be destroyed by the incoming winter weather and be more useless garbage at this lake. Those canoes have been down there surviving the weather for well over a decade. Like I said, I like this guy's content, heck it could of been the addicted guys that chose to leave the tent, it's just a shame that people do that sort of thing to incredible places. If you find this place and hike down and back out, you would take in its beauty and understand how special it is.

    Great video! However, your cautions around mushroom foraging are spot on. The "general rule of thumb that if a mushroom smells good you'll probably be OK" is frankly terrible advice, as much as I enjoy Jordan's content overall. Amanita species generally smell good, even the Destroying Angel. No coming back from that if you eat one of those. Anyone interested in mushroom foraging should at least get the book he mentioned, but also join a local mycology group and go out with someone experienced. The vast majority of mushrooms are not deadly toxic, but if you screw it up... Anyway, as always thanks for the videos!
