13 years old? Them claiming they kept him locked up because they were in fear for their lives. Makes me think when he turned 13, he started fighting back against his abusers. Which scared them.
If you wonder, do something. Call Child Welfare and ask for wellness check.
They kept him just for the welfare checks until he turned 18. Some people shouldn’t be allowed to be parents.
This is one reason to watch kids in your neighborhood who are being homeschooled. Not all homeschooling parents are abusers of course, but homeschooling makes it easy for abusive parents to get away with some horrific abuse.
There are some kids out there that are just uncontrollable and a lot of the time it has nothing to do with the parents.

I'm so glad he was found. What a horrible situation!
FYI, this child is not OK, he will have years of counseling and other treatments to try and become OK, but I doubt he'll ever be 100%.
I work in a school with Special Ed. It’s called “ACES” - “Adverse Childhood Experiences”.
This means the children were traumatized during childhood. As we know, a child’s brain is growing from conception and continues to grow until they are in their 20s. They are learning at a rapid rate.
These scary, awful episodes that may happen once or continue will affect different parts of their brain. Some children lose the ability to understand verbal instruction, recognize letters, numbers and delayed reading occurs. Others will not follow listen to teachers and become difficult. This is the beginning of struggles in the education system. We can only imagine what the high school years and beyond will be for these children.
Be assured, social worker can only do so much. The Deans can only do so much. I assist a teacher, and follow what she thinks is best. I truly love children, letters, writing, social studies and science with them as we discover together. Sadly, the amount of learning they receive, compared to all the interruptions like crying, refusal of work and trying to leave the classroom is becoming too much for the wage of a paraprofessional. 😢
That's if his new guardians can afford therapy. There is Medicaid but that's extremely hard to get, more than likely he'll fall through the cracks. Sad but it's the system we have created.
Disgusting excuse for parents. Lock them up and throw away the key!

I have heard of parents with a son who threatened to stab them in their sleep, they had to sleep in shifts until they could get a Dr. for him ,that could figure out what treatments he needed. They didn’t treat him badly , lock him up or take food away from him. Some parents punish mental illness in kids. Or maybe the parents are cracked .

I’m glad that someone in that neighborhood finally had the nerve to call for a welfare check . I’m disgusted that so many saw these drills they conducted with him, he looking pale and disoriented and never called the cops or cps . When it comes to a child ,it’s everyone’s responsibility
That child is NOT “ok”! And it will only be with long-term counseling, permanent removal from any contact with those adults and genuine love and care that the child will heal. We don’t even treat adults in prison like that!
When it comes to kids, if you think something is off, pick up the phone and call the police

Too many children are abused and nobody speaks up. You have to hate a child to treat them this way...
Child abuse & child trafficking has been an alarming public health & criminal issue for a long time, and it's just frightening that police budgets don't allocate personnel to fight this, nor work with CPS. CPS is chronically underfunded & understaffed. I'm fine with my tax dollars being used to support police & CPS to rescue kids from these crimes
Whenever i hear of these cases of children being kept in cages its never by 1 adult its always 2 adults in the home wtf is wrong with these people
And there is almost always a step parent involved.
I'm so glad I mostly lived with my single mom. My dad & step mom were weird like this, but not quite as extreme. Still, in grade school we had a 'poop bucket' because our parents wouldn't give us a key so we could go in the house. They had us living in a shed outside the house. When my mom found out she came and got us immediately.

It’s evil that overtakes people! It’s greed ! It’s illegal drugs. The constant “I want more and more” attitude. Mental illness has to be addressed in society as a significant problem. Parents putting a child in a cage are mentally ill. We have to find happiness in what we have this day. Tomorrow is not promised. 🙏✝️

It's so sad. What a neighbor hears from the street is only 10% of the abuse that is happening behind closed doors. That child is subject to 24/7 trauma. Just the idea of waiting in anticipation of the next moment of abuse is traumatic... it's not a moment of peace to go unabused for 16 hours. And the kids don't even know what to do about it, because it feels like their only option to have food and shelter in this world. If their own family treats them this way, then they think strangers will be even worse.

Another cautionary tale of just because you can have children does not mean that you should because nowadays some of these people are becoming parents just to be bullies or to project their past trauma onto their offspring!
As a homeschooling (for 27 years) mom of five and Grammie of nine, I can assure you those “parents” did NOT homeschool that poor child. I hate it when these types of freaks claim they are homeschoolers. It gives the legit homeschoolers a bad name.
