you can play it on the piano if you know the melody. the scale used in the Romanian style kaval is called Dorian #4 if you look it up on youtube there's a good video explaining the scale
the scale is called Dorian #4 it's a scale used in many countries apart from Romania and the Moldovan Republic, like Ukraine or Carpathian countries in general, as well as the middle East. search Dorian #4 on youtube. also, the instrument in the video is a Moldovan style kaval, being diferent from the balkanic style for having a fipple and 5 holes. it's also used in Hungary since it's a neighbour, and the instrument probably entered due to migration and contact between Shepards, it's a Shepard instrument, so stop arguing about it you guys. I'm sorry to break your world view but this style of kaval is not hungarian, and it's ok, it's still used in Hungary, Romania and Moldova, it's like you hate Romania so hard you don't even want to have music in common whith it. at the end of the day is the European version of an asian flute, same whith the cimbalom, same whith the koboz. they were all brought and adapted due to migrations from Asia. that's why is pointless to argue about this
@@loranscocuz8699 yes, it's asian in origin, this style is diferent though, it's wooden like the balkanic ones but has a fipple on the back like a whistle and 5 holes. this style is mostly associated whith Moldovan Folk music but is also present in Romania. it's an adaptation of the kaval you see in Bulgaria for example, which is closer to the original kaval, having 6 holes and no fipple. so this particular style is Romanian/Moldovan, the same way a lute is a European version of an oud. mostly the same but diferent scales, and shape

Kedves Gábor, érdekel a zene, pár éve gitározok, mindig tetszett a hagyományos folk zene, világzene. Érdemes kaval-on kezdeni?
Remélem elkezdted azóta.

Actually the kaval was originally invented in the middle east and signs of its use were found in ancient Egipt and Persia
