  • Workload usage is a term you’ll need to become familiar with if you’re building an app on Bubble…
    Not only will it help you prioritize scalability when building your app, but it’ll also help you optimize for cost.
    With all that said, however...
    - What does workload usage actually mean?
    - What activities contribute to it?
    - How can you track it and predict costs?
    - And what best practices should you follow to keep it in check?
    Each of these things can feel like complete unknowns, and predicting your app's ongoing costs can seem like a guess…
    But once you understand the ins and outs, you can take control over your development and be intentional about how you build.
    Watch this video to better optimize your app and control your development as a whole.

    The new pricing model has me wanting to leave bubble… they did lesson what their original work load unit was going to cost but this isn’t reassuring because they had a number they wanted to get to and this may change again. I wish I hadn’t invested so much time but did get to learn a lot so I’m happy about that. You guys have been truly amazing and I hope bubbles decisions don’t effect you guys.

      I hear you! It's certainly a change. We've personally felt like we've been getting an absolute steal with Bubble - costs to build apps on Bubble that run our entire business have been cheaper than many more substantially insignificant tools we use, for instance. We get that a price change was necessary. We also appreciate being able to predict costs in a much more transparent way. Development wise, best practices around scalability shouldn't really change. But again, I hear you that it's a change compared to what you were previously paying, and that can be tough. I hope the long grace period will give you some time to adapt any development practices you might need to and be able to continue. We always enjoy seeing you pop up in the comments! :)

      @@coachingnocodeapps I totally agree that a price change is necessary and really don’t mind paying more but to what extent know one really knows. I’m on the fence and will use some of that time to make the hard choice. I’d just like to seriously thank you for all you’ve done for the community and myself! Bravo Zulu to you!

      You're very welcome, and thank YOU! If you're having a hard time making a decision, I'd suggest considering what your alternative is, and then what compromises you'd have to make in taking that alternative route. At the end of the day, there will always be some sort of compromise, but there's no way for us to say what's better for you - it depends 100% on your own priorities. For us personally, using Bubble is still a no brainer. But again, that's us, and every person/app/founder has varying needs and priorities for development. Good luck, my friend! We're wishing you all the best!

    I personally think that Bubble is no longer a tool for entrepreneurs to build their MVP themselves. With this new model, having expert developers is a must, otherwise, the app costs can easily increase sky-high.

      We've seen a lot of folks successfully learn how to build their apps efficiently without having to outsource. It depends on your own goals, and priorities, though. Not everyone wants to take the time to learn how to develop properly, and for those people, outsourcing is a better option. There's nothing wrong with either route.

    Hey, thanks for the eye opener. Ive been planning a job website, but Im wondering whether theres any point now. Whats your opinion and how many workloads do you think a local job board website (not so popular one) built with Bubble (1 page only) would include?

      Hey there! I wouldn't personally be hesitant to build that type of app. I'd go much more complex and still would not worry. I'd recommend watching this video: ua-cam.com/video/12Xl603LUDA/v-deo.htmlsi=VrMOcqVWB0wHY6zb

    The more affected apps would be the highly responsive and good looking ones. Since you need a lot of workflows to make the app look good then the more the user interacts with verything the more cost.

    I was learning bubble then I stopped... I don't have any app yet and I'm afraid I invest a lot of time learning and creating then realize that my app will be much more expensive than the competition... Do you have some advice?

    • @coachingnocodeapps
      @coachingnocodeapps  Рік тому

      Hey Walid! There's a lot you can control with your development, so I would strongly suggest following the best practices outlined here. From our experience, if Bubble is the right platform for your app, it's generally very worthwhile to pay for the control and power the platform gives you versus using a different platform you might have to make compromises with.

    So I'm guessing a marketplace or on demand services app would not be a great idea to build with bubble

      Plenty of folks build those types of apps on Bubble. No matter what you're building, it's important to build in optimized ways.

    If I currently hold a legacy plan, would you recommend updating to the new plans?

    • @coachingnocodeapps
      @coachingnocodeapps  Рік тому

      If you have a live app already on the legacy plan, you can take advantage of the transition window to learn what your app's WU consumption needs are before making the switch. Bubble has said you'll have until Oct 2024 to stay on legacy. You already have access to the WU metrics in your App Metrics tab, so you have breathing room to optimize without rushing.

    Waiting for your video on this topic, and finally its here today! Great video love it, but am bit wonder that, can i do practice like before in bubble on free plan (coz am still in learning process of learning backend/workflows to build apps)

    • @coachingnocodeapps
      @coachingnocodeapps  Рік тому

      Yes! Bubble still has a Free plan that you can develop on, and you get 50,000 WUs / month to play with. While you can set up backend workflows, you won't be able to run them on the Free plan (this hasn't changed).

    Thank you for your video. We were in the planning stages when Bubble dropped this new plan. Our app will be heavily focused on database modification and graphical representation of large datasets per user. It will also be connecting to several APIs (more than 50), and have automated daily tasks. Do you think Bubble is still the way to go?

    • @coachingnocodeapps
      @coachingnocodeapps  Рік тому +1

      Hi Jay! We actually saw you sent in a strategy call application form. We'll review that to get further specifics and will continue the conversation there!

    • @markmarrin4754
      @markmarrin4754 Рік тому +1

      Definitely not; those types of calls are ultra-expensive on Bubble.

    • @coachingnocodeapps
      @coachingnocodeapps  Рік тому +1

      There are several approaches you can take with an app that's going to be dependent on a lot of real-time activity with many services. We still prefer to use Bubble as the primary "hub" for most data-driven apps, and since the platform is so extensible, you have the ability to leverage 3rd party tools to share in any heavy lifting if necessary. At the end of the day though, every single app is different -- it's the combination of all variables that will dictate which tool or suite of tools will produce the most cost effective and optimized system. We always avoid using a blanket statement when there are so many factors and use-case-specifics that should be considered for every individual app. It's also important to consider the alternative options for each individual app use case, situation, etc and weigh the pros and cons of those.

    My bubble app is login in on its own automatically without logging in the user😢😢

      I'd suggest turning on your debugger to "step by step" mode to see what might be happening whenever your page loads. It's possible your page doesn't have any navigation actions to redirect users who are logged out.

      That's unfortunate to hear! We haven't personally experienced any issues due to the increase in cost transparency this has enabled.

      Head over to your own app's Logs > App Metrics. This is where you'll learn how workload usage is going for your app specifically. Start by looking at how many WUs you've consumed to understand what plan that puts you on. Drill down into the charts by starting with the activity types that consume the most WUs and look for areas you can optimize within those drilled-down areas. Optimization starts with first understanding your own app's needs!
