So, 17 yr vet here. I'm level 113. I stop trying around level 106. During when the valve index first came out, there was some exploit to increase your level. Now, I have a very bad memory but I remember it had something to do with the game FTL? Maybe stardew valley? I believe by doing something in that game it would help contribute to leveling up your steam profile because it was a steam event. Now, I also think it really helped because I bought the valve index from the steam store by having steam points and contributing that to my level. But I remember going from level 60 to level 100 within 30 mins. After that, I just stopped because I understood at a certain level, your chances of getting boosters doesn't increase any more. Also, the only dumb reason to level up is for booster so you can sell em. You spend money to eventually make a little money way later. I used to get 3 boosters about 2 or 3 times a week but now it's like once every 2 weeks? You then sell that and make profit. Also, steam idle master helps and is is the best way to farm cards so you can sell them. Especially if you have 2k steam games like I do. I'm at that point where I don't care to invest money in my level. I only spent like 100 bucks over that past 17 years (stopped when index came out) but I made like 50 bucks in selling cards and boosters. I still have over 2000 steam cards to farm and sell lol. Luckily, selling cards for each game is less painful these days but still time consuming.

Also be on the lookout for events. The steam grand prix badge 2019 was able to be level boosted for literally hundreds of thousands of xp, which put me at around level 150 easily.
I always hated the way they handle cards. No matter how many hours in a game you have, you can't get more cards for it. You have to have whatever those "friends" things are that people these days keep talking about... Jokes aside, nobody I know actually cares about Steam trading cards, so I'd have to bug them to give me their cards, which is a hassle with how clunky the trading system feels... Of course, you can always jut buy them off the market, and I just LOVE seeing numbers go up. I've already spent at least $60 on steam trading cards.
not to mention that the foil badges can only go to level 1! i bought 5 of each just to find out i only needed 1 of each then i had to try and resell all the extra cards i had just bought
That cover of "Take on Me" was incredible!! Have you guys listened to Green Carnation's cover of '"Stay on These Roads"? What a nice treat before a whole video with one of my favourite songs from Opeth. Just good times all around in this one 😌
Thanks for the video now I understood what is going on with those cards ,steam level etc. But I thing that it is just a complicated waste of money and time. I'd rather just waste money to by games on discounts and time to play them that why I have steam for.
There's a lot of comments pointing out the obvious so yes, unless you care for cosmetics, leveling up brings essentially no benefits, but that's not the point. You are not hindered in any way by being lvl 1 on steam, but if you want to have a themed profile with many matching showcases of badges, completion rates, achievements, etc. to show, you can always level up to get them. Granted now you don't even need to level up to have showcases, if you buy games and dlc you get steampoints that you can trade for them. Still my lvl 69 profile is cooler just because it's level 69 and I have a lot of cool badges from games I've poured many hours in that I like to show. I've even gotten some community awards from people who found my profile cool, there's no harm in any of it. The other bonuses are also harmless, more random packs and extra friends when you probably handpick the cards you need to craft badges off the market and have a starting list of 250 friends make no difference. Look at it this way, if it did make a difference, for example a lvl 1 account had a limit of 5 friends, then there would be a problem with the level system but as it stands, it's just a niche thing for some people to enjoy
Thanks for going through the trouble of actually figuring out what all this leveling and card collecting nonsense is all about. You did a good job explaining it and now I am even more certain that leveling that account is a waste of time. Playing literally any trashy clicker game is more rewarding than this, and as someone who knows about nutaku I have seen very very trashy clicker games.
2:26 side note: since card drops are random, you won't always, if ever, get exactly half the cards you need. Sometimes you'll get double cards, meaning you have one extra card to make up for after all your drops. Keep this in mind.
I used steam for a long time before I even realized it had the leveling and badge system. When I really learned about it I grabbed a few for the games I liked but that's about all I'll do. I don't got 200+ friends so I'll never need that many slots
I got 1200XP just from the awards on my reviews, so getting awards will also gain you xp (on the community contributor badge, each reward gains you more xp but the badge remains the same) this is one of the best ways and yet you didn't even mention it , probably didn't know it at all tbh...
The main draw of levelling your profile is if you want access to more customisation, and even then it requires some effort and knowledge if you want it to look good.
I am totally unbothered by this. I see no upside in having to spend money to have more friends than i can remember and recognise, and appear on top of their list.
Very useful. But in all honestly if anyone want steam points or steam level there are people selling those service for cheap. Im level 500 in steam with over 1mil points.
I mean cheap is arguable, it will cost you about 3k to get from level 0 to 500 by using those services. It would of course cost a lot more without them.
The advantages you went through are stuff that many don't care about so let me point out the one that you forgot and many might care about a little more. FREE MONEY! Kind of. The higher your Steam level is, the more likely you are to receive weekly boosters (other factors affect that though, like the popularity of the games you own and if they have trading cards). Those boosters you can then either sell or open them and sell the cards you get.
I'm not sure if this is confirmed or not, but I was once told your account level influences how fast cards will drop when playing games that have cards (capping out at level 50)
I feel like I am the only person who cares about how their Steam profile looks...lol I really enjoy making my profile look pretty and aesthetically pleasing, because the profile customization is really in depth and has many layers to it. It gives a sense of individuality and personalization when people go to your profile. And it's not bad having a high level, I get hyped seeing the funny number go up higher, even though it serves no purpose other than to be a digital flex. I mean, who's to say in 20-30 years time, that these profiles become extremely valuable just for their level and their years of service alone. Like how collectables became a thing, this could be the digital equivalent
during the tree major steam sales its possible to buy levels with steam points ive only bought 2 lvl40 badges which brought me up 60 odd levels to lvl 74
I got my steam level (101) my event participation. I got 100 XP for Steam Grand Prix 2019 - Team Hare and 55,500 XP for Steam Grand Prix 2019 badges. I have not participated in events since then. Level 30 is all I "needed" as only use 3 featured showcase slots. I have never crafted a game badge for 2 reasons: I'm not a trading card person I like being exactly 101.
My tip for leveling up easily is to play games that offer more expensive cards to sell. Then use that money to buy out cheap badges. Like the badge for the game: Mountain.

13 years in steam and never noticed this lol.
I don’t know why they don’t just connect it to in game achievements
it's expensive as hell and a money sink, and i don't think youll ever fill the 1k friend slots.
Let alone 250. Normal gamers who just use Steam for casual gaming have maybe a dozen friends.
not to mention that the foil badges can only go to level 1! i bought 5 of each just to find out i only needed 1 of each then i had to try and resell all the extra cards i had just bought
"You get more friends slots!" bro I have 0 friends and you think I'm EVER gonna need more than 250 friends slots? bro's delusional frfr 💀💀
That cover of "Take on Me" was incredible!! Have you guys listened to Green Carnation's cover of '"Stay on These Roads"?
What a nice treat before a whole video with one of my favourite songs from Opeth. Just good times all around in this one 😌
So, it's a numbers game. Okay. I knew that already.
Thanks for the video now I understood what is going on with those cards ,steam level etc. But I thing that it is just a complicated waste of money and time. I'd rather just waste money to by games on discounts and time to play them that why I have steam for.
Thanks for the video bud!
Ain't no way anyone who cares about their steam profile has more than 250 friends
you'd be very surprised by reality
The good thing: Its all cosmetic
Tha bad thing: This video
Thanks for going through the trouble of actually figuring out what all this leveling and card collecting nonsense is all about. You did a good job explaining it and now I am even more certain that leveling that account is a waste of time. Playing literally any trashy clicker game is more rewarding than this, and as someone who knows about nutaku I have seen very very trashy clicker games.
"gives more friend slots"
me whit few friends only: dam usefull
You explained it very well. It is as useless as I though it would be. Thanks.
Idc about steam levels i care about playing games as a user, this "level system" bullshit is just waste of money + complicated af
That’s fair, I agree mostly just thought I’d make a video about it to educate people that don’t know anything about it
You can see games with trading cards by just going on community market and selecting steam and normal card and select any game from the list
max amount of friends beyond 250
Me with 19 friends on my steam account: interesting
2:26 side note: since card drops are random, you won't always, if ever, get exactly half the cards you need. Sometimes you'll get double cards, meaning you have one extra card to make up for after all your drops. Keep this in mind.
I used steam for a long time before I even realized it had the leveling and badge system. When I really learned about it I grabbed a few for the games I liked but that's about all I'll do. I don't got 200+ friends so I'll never need that many slots
I got 1200XP just from the awards on my reviews, so getting awards will also gain you xp (on the community contributor badge, each reward gains you more xp but the badge remains the same) this is one of the best ways and yet you didn't even mention it , probably didn't know it at all tbh...
pick up the Seasonal Badge in the point shop, they give free steam xp as well
you can also spend steam points in the seasonal badges to lvl up
Thanks for the info.
I have like 5 steam friends. I don’t need 250 or more slots. But I’ve seen people have hundreds of friends on steam so I guess I won’t judge.
More friends on a friendlist? Nice option. One small issue.
No friends.
Leveling upshould make games and stuff cheaper by a minor amount
I got the full set of TF2 cards, had I known they'd do this for me instead of turning the extras into gems, I could've been going at this.
So there's no benefit at all leveling up. No nerd has more that 2 friends.
How do you only have 2 Friends 😭🙏
The main draw of levelling your profile is if you want access to more customisation, and even then it requires some effort and knowledge if you want it to look good.
Now that we've shown you the benifits of leveling....
Hold on, I'm still waiting on a good reason for it.
Learning that, i decide to do Solo leveling Steam account
I mean you could've mentioned the badge that can be bought for points and gives 4000 XP
Im lvl 140 and still enjoyed this video
I am totally unbothered by this. I see no upside in having to spend money to have more friends than i can remember and recognise, and appear on top of their list.
Did you know all trade cards are basically wallpapers you can download before selling them?
Nice, now I can add my 3 alt acc in my 250 big friendlist filled with strangers.
Very useful. But in all honestly if anyone want steam points or steam level there are people selling those service for cheap. Im level 500 in steam with over 1mil points.
What services? Where did you buy them?
@@itszagreuss google kalizan
How? can u teach me
@@aleman9959 ?
I mean cheap is arguable, it will cost you about 3k to get from level 0 to 500 by using those services. It would of course cost a lot more without them.
The advantages you went through are stuff that many don't care about so let me point out the one that you forgot and many might care about a little more. FREE MONEY! Kind of. The higher your Steam level is, the more likely you are to receive weekly boosters (other factors affect that though, like the popularity of the games you own and if they have trading cards). Those boosters you can then either sell or open them and sell the cards you get.
Thanks, ill recommend this video to my friend who cant get all his 500 friends on steam
I'm not sure if this is confirmed or not, but I was once told your account level influences how fast cards will drop when playing games that have cards (capping out at level 50)
I feel like I am the only person who cares about how their Steam profile looks...lol
I really enjoy making my profile look pretty and aesthetically pleasing, because the profile customization is really in depth and has many layers to it. Like how collectables became a thing, this could be the digital equivalent
im gonna love lvling up and getting all this stuff to show my 0 friends :D
wow this video was like really helpful
during the tree major steam sales its possible to buy levels with steam points ive only bought 2 lvl40 badges which brought me up 60 odd levels to lvl 74
I just wanna play games in peace. 250 friend slots are enough for me.
I understood " 5 more friends sl*ts"
Still waiting for the reason why I should do it or care about it...
I have never crafted a game badge for 2 reasons:
I'm not a trading card person
I like being exactly 101.
5 years of steam still level 6 lol
Alternate title: Why you should not level up your steam account but here is how to do it anyway
never even noticed that level thing before
My tip for leveling up easily is to play games that offer more expensive cards to sell. Then use that money to buy out cheap badges. Like the badge for the game: Mountain.
Ah yes, the content farmer and bot farmer use cases.
