“Why are Young People leaving the church?”
Reason No. 1: The Republican Conservatives and their push for the abolishment of the separation of church and state has turned us off. We don’t want to live in a world where old religious zealots can make our lives miserable and we’d have to be okay with it.
Reason No. 2: The association with politics turns us off as well as the fact that most churches are spouting pro-Republican Conservative talking points as well as antisemitic hate speech.
Reason No. 3: The association with hate speech in general. Our generations are vastly liberal-progressive and we understand that wanting better for your fellow human beings is vital for our generations, so for Christians to openly attack LGBTQ+ individuals, Women, People of Color, Foreigners, Immigrants, Disabled People and people from other religions and tout it as “god’s will” is a major turn-off for the vast majority of Millennials and Zoomers.
Reason No. 4: there are way better communities for us to join that are accepting, respectful and won’t have any problems with accepting us and showing us a good time. There’s really no need for Christianity and the Church when we can find our peace on a good, friendly Discord server where we can make good friends, play games together, learn from one another and just have fun. Same goes for Social Media in general.
Reason No. 5: Crazy people and Karens/Darens. We don’t want to be in proximity of people who think the world owes them and we don’t want to engage with them. We simply ignore them because they aren’t worth our time. Why do you think nobody wants to be religious? Well, because Televangelists literally shout at us “IF YOU’RE A DEMOCRAT, THEN GET OUT!” So we just peaced out.
The church nowadays is going the way of KMart. Mostly closing its doors because nobody really wants to go in. But in this case, it’s for completely different reasons. Kmart closed because of competitors like Target and Walmart, Churches are closing because it’s a hub for bigots and people who want to make our lives worse and paint it as “God’s Will”.
In a world of technology and communication on a massive scale, The Church has been dying BECAUSE we just don’t see the point in flouting a bunch of bigots’ egos so they can have peace while the rest of us just have to suffer. We find our peace alongside one another, here, online. And if the internet was shut down, I can assure you we’d still find a way to stay in touch. We wouldn’t come flocking to churches and put up with people’s hate speech and abuse so people can be smug.
