My memory of hearing this was in 1982. I just moved to Oakland after being discharged from Air force and was riding in the back seat of a 1982 Buick Park Ave going over the San Francisco bay bridge at night seeing the beautiful lights and awesome view of San Francisco. It made a memory.

I remember meeting this man at a place by the beach called the Strand. I was rude to him at first because I was really angry at my then boyfriend. He brushed it off and bought m table drinks and paid for our dinner. it was my birthday..After his set he came and sat with us and we had a wonderful time.. He told me any man that for got my birthday didn't deserve me. we agreed.. I dumped dude as a gift to myself.. RIP Grover love u.

I can remember over the years many people having negative things to say about Grover's music- but one thing about it, his was outstanding then and it is great now, without a doubt. My wife and I have enjoyed seeing Grover and the Fellas a many a time, but one the most treasured was at Villa Montalvo with some great friends-four couples drove up from Los Angeles to enjoy a jazz filled weekend.
Long live the music of Grover Washington and the Fellas.

Although I was literally raised up on 70s jazz...Grover was the one that made me a jazz ADDICT...just listen to this? and THIS particular song from this particular lp was SOOO popular *as was the whole lp* that it made it to the soap operas..>General Hospital to be exact....if played on daytime tv...it was a hit!

Here in England in the 80s I fell in love with another man. I played this track endlessly, which makes it a bitter-sweet reminder now. Ultimately we got together and then I lost him to young-onset Alzheimer's. Music has such power. When I play this we're still around.

  • @MsTexas73

YES!!! PBS was INFAMOUS for playing what we now call smooth jazz between their shows...
Here in Cleveland it was this order though...Sesame Street ...then Mr. Rogers...then Electric Company...and can't forget 321 Contact!

I have most of Grover's albums and have seen him twice in concert. Both times, I saw him I experienced unforgettable and supreme joy. He gives 110% to his fans. When it comes to tender, light, emotion-filled expression he is second to none. There might be a couple others Jazz giants who are more technically superior, but he's number ONE in touching the listener by bringing to life the beauty we know in our minds but so seldom hear or feel.
