For those who are planning to visit and swim with whale sharks in Oslob in the future, you better book your ticket with your resort so that you won't have to get a priority number for your turn. Even if you're not staying in that resort, they will still accept your booking but they ask for a booking fee of P100 (2018 rate). But it's okay because you skip the long line. That's what many locals are doing who don't stay in the area. Plus, the resort will give you a free ride to and from the whale shark site. Resorts are in partnership with the operator of the attraction so they have pre-assigned boats and crew so that their guests don't need to wait for their turn. Plus, the resort staff will assist you all throughout, from registration on site until you're done with the activity.
@@luifosgate6266 No. You don't need to book a room to stay in a resort. I found that out in 2018 after confirming with the front desk that they accept whale shark booking to walk-in guests or those who haven't booked a room with them by just paying entrance fee of P100 per person. The advantage of booking a whale shark interaction with a resort as a walk-in guest is that you skip the 'queueing' process because partner resorts help in 'providing business' to them. As a result, you'll be provided with your own boat and crew, and breeze through. The resort also drive you to and back from the site with their own shuttle service. They send out one of their staff to guide you through all the way.
Wow! That was an enormous crowd again! Truly, the pre-pandemic tourism has returned in Cebu. I experienced Oslob whale shark swimming twice before, first in 2016 and second in 2018. Personally, i think this should be regulated as i read an article from 1 or 2 years ago saying that the Oslob whalesharks have more scars and lesions compared to those elsewhere. The article also stated that the constant feeding on the surface exposes them to more heat which could affect their overall health. Not against whaleshark tourism. I just think it should be limited to certain days only. And maybe for the operators to avoid feeding them so close to the divers to maintain the distance between the divers and whalesharks. :)
@@project_where But on the one hand, i think they are actually already being overfed daily, lol. Which could actually also be detrimental to their health.
SO THAT EVERYONE KNOWS ABOUT WHALE SHARKS IN OSLOB. The whale sharks in Oslob are in their natural setting or habitat. They're not herded or not corralled just to go to Oslob. They simply visit Oslob to feed in the morning on their own will and simply leave in the afternoon. No matter how you coax them to stay by keep feeding them into the afternoon, they would still leave and disappear. That illustrates that whale sharks don't get tamed or coaxed by feeding. You need to know how these sharks visit Oslob for the longest time ever since early 1970s during my grade school years. Take note, the mass tourism on whale sharks in Oslob only started in 2012, ten years ago. But the whale sharks have been visiting Oslob waters since time immemorial. In early 1970s they were already a common sight in Oslob, at least for local fishermen and locals as well. The feeding isn't the reason why these sharks come to Oslob. Remember, sharks are fish not mammals. Fish don't have memories. That means they don't visit a specific area just because it is the last place that they got food. Oslob is really the natural feeding ground for the whale sharks because it is also where the breeding ground for the tiny crustaceans called krills which are their main diet. Oslob is the confluence of two sea currents of two narrow straits: Tanon Strait (between Negros and Cebu) and Cebu Strait (between Cebu and Bohol). These currents create a natural habitat for these krills due to the massive amount of nutrients carried by these two currents. You see, the whale sharks would come to Oslob whether they are fed or not. Remember when the Oslob whale shark watching was closed for 6 months during the start of the pandemic from March 2020 til September 2020. Still the whale sharks visited Oslob everyday and nobody fed them. The feeding was done not only as a gesture of caring for the whale sharks but also to enable the watchers to better manage the activity ensuring that the rules and regulations are strictly observed. Because if they don't feed the sharks, the sharks scatter in a very large area to feed so monitoring can be very difficult for the watchers. Yes, the Oslob waters are abound with krills. If you only visit Oslob and wake up early in the morning, you can see the local fishermen or watcher catching krills in Oslob waters in a very large area.
Donsol whale shark watching is more natural and people are well managed. They don't use baiting or lure the whale sharks to come. Donsol have enough natural foods for the whale sharks so they live more naturally in the Donsol environment.

You do have a point! However the whale sharks in oslob are already so reliant on human feeding that they can no longer live without these tourisms. 🥲
@@project_where But on the one hand, i think they are actually already being overfed daily, lol. Which could actually also be detrimental to their health.
@@project_where And also, i don't believe they can't survive without humans. They have innate instincts that will enable them to feed themselves.
After watching Whalesharks, the best thing to do next is to go to Tumalog Falls which is just a 5-10-minutes motorbike drive.
Thanks for the recommendation! Unfortunately we are already back to cebu city, hopefully next time!
