So, I'm trying to do some research on how to fix PAR 64 LED cans, something like what you have there, only not as compact. I have no background or experience with circuit boards or such repairs as this. However, watching you pull this apart and put it back together has given me some ideas and provided my with some information I can use to do better, more in-depth searches about these things. Thanks for the video! This is going to help a lot! :)
Hi Steve..here is a crazy question. I have a bunch of old par cans that use the bulb. I had this idea to gut them and use LED strips inside of them. Where I am stumped is how to power them back up and have DMX control. I can use the dimmer packs as a source of power but wiring up LED as well as the DMX (for color change...etc) to get them to work is beyond my ideas. Any idea how I can do this or would it just be cheaper to go out and buy the LED cans? Thanks alot. Enjoyed your video.
Well that would be an interesting project, certainly. I guess you could use high power LEDs in place of the bulb, but getting them at the focal point of the parabola would be difficult and then you'd need to sink the heat... You could use a microcontroller as the DMX interface, some FETs and a current limited PSU to drive the LEDs but, at the end of the day you could just buy one of these units for £20... Hope that helps.
Hey Steve, I'm sitting at work right now with a pile of LED pars that has accumulated, because none of them will switch from white to any other color. Where do I even start? Thanks!
I'm about to repair one of these Chinese atrocities. Have you seen the way the current limiting resistors are installed on the LED board? One lead goes through the PCB as it should but the other lead is suspended in a blob of solder. I've never seen anything like it!
hey man i bought a RGB LED 10MM BAR Strip from musicstore.de to find that 12 RED LEDs are flashing on there own. only in red. and in color mixing that needs red... i opened it up. looks clean no black burnt marks or anything. but cant seem to fix it....also the dip switch box no.7 is broken as core . how would u fix that ??? # i love ur channel

Interesting... I have no idea. Send me one and I'll tell you!

No. I didn't look at the LED board, but nothing would surprise me!

Do we need the terminator plug for DMX?
Yep.
hey I have a par 64 led light that every time I plug it in the led lights will come on and go immediately out you have any idea on how to fix it ?
Even I have observed similar problem with my led ..
Please help if anybody knows about this problem ... thanks
Just resolder dmx in connector to the board. It helped me, had a same symptoms.
