There is SO much more I can say about this season. All in all, a step up in accuracy, quality, etc. From smaller animals getting the spotlight, to the creature designs (a lot of which were designed by Gabriel Ugueto, whom is one of my favorite paleoartists). But for sake of brevity, these are my basic thoughts of the show. I would love to talk about it more in the very near future.
Phenomenal season. My only gripe that I also had for S1 was the lack of sharks. You'd think they would include a few considering when people think of the oceans, they think of sharks. Seeing a shark get eaten by a larger Mosasaur would have been a no-brainer introduction to the Mosasaurs (although personally I would have liked to see sharks just doing their thing like with the rest of the creatures on the show). I would have also liked an adult Pyroraptor. I literally went 👀when I heard its name.
It’s a bit of a shame that we got less time in the second season but it was well paced which I’m glad about. It was also good to have the uncovered segments in the episodes as it really helps the education part of the documentary but it is a bit of a shame that the episodes were shorter, they could’ve had an extra segment or more time for each segment
What's made both seasons great is its animals being animals!!!!!! Not Jurassic Fight Club horse$hit. I can only hope we get another 2 or 3 seasons, atleast.
This season was a much better improvement than season 1, this series will never reach the heights that Walking with Dinosaurs did if this is the same route they are taking, playing it waaay to safe and limited. So if anything it did not hit the mark, more so it's closer to the mark but not hitting it.
Good review, on a great show. :) One note though, the pack hunting may not be quite as speculative as you think.. seeing as both wolves and some big cats, like lions, work together to make traps. Dinos weren't stupid! lol and although certainly speculative, there's no reason to think that they weren't intelligent enough to work together.
Just to be clear, the "Velociraptors" in the show aren't actual Velociraptors, they're based on indeterminate velociraptorine remains from the Maastrichtian age and were called Velociraptors in the show for simplicity and to support the idea that they may represent a third species of Velociraptor. The "Velociraptors" were depicted as opportunistic hunters, "partly social" animals that moved and possibly hunted in numbers of two to three members or more. Possibly the ones in the Badlands episode were a family group which could be an explanation as well.
The fact of the matter is that they were made as Velociraptors for the general public. A Velociraptorine doesn't equal the genus Velociraptor the same way a Triceratops isn't called Chasmosaurus on account of it being a Chasmosaurine. And the fact it doesn't represent a true Velociraptor is never made clear in the show, nor bonus content. Documentaries I hold to higher standards than regular media. And I've heard the opportunistic idea for this behavior, but it's simply just pack behavior shown because the audience is used to it from Dromeaosaurs. Their inclusion is in no way a deal breaker, but they are based off of indeterminate finds, and were really just a way for them to have their cake and eat it too.
I mean, there are a lot of Velociraptor-like things from the Maastrichtian of Mongolia, and some of them could just straight up be different species of Velociraptor. We just gotta wait for the scientists to describe them. Edit: Not to mention, doesn't Velociraptor count as a Maastrichtian dinosaur? Velociraptor lived 75 to 71 million years ago, while the Maastrichtian is 72 to 66 million years ago. That means that it is age appropriate as it lives during the time PP is set.
@@BigAl2-u7e The only other velociraptorine from the same location in the Nemegt as the "Velociraptors" is Adasaurus, but it's larger and has a more blunter toe claw.
@the_death_phantom5332 You do realize that animals have huge ranges, right? Not to mention, the Nemegt and Djadochta are like right next to each other. Edit: Also, you completely missed what I even said. There are a lot of Velociraptor-like undescribed fossils from Mongolia. So things that aren't described new species, genera, or fossils of already existing species/genera.
unfortunately season 2 still didn't give any focus on fish. Xiphactinus is SUCH A COOL ANIMAL, SO MUCH MORE SUCCESSFUL THAN MOSASAURS, AND WHAT DID THEY GIVE IT?.... It ate some fish, ate a bird or two, then ate itself.... Fish are just so disrespected man.
I feel like Prehistoric Planet season 2 should’ve focused on a different period in earth’s history instead of the Cretaceous I really wanted a season set only in the late Permian period but what we still got was fine, I just hope AppleTv+ doesn’t only saw Prehistoric Planet as marketable just because it was set in the Maastrichtian age of the late Cretaceous Because then it wouldn’t be called Prehistoric Planet at all since Prehistoric literally means the entirety of earths natural history and not just the late Cretaceous period It would be sad if they stick to the late Cretaceous going forward to future seasons of this show because it would just be called Cretaceous Planet and not Prehistoric Planet I pray that if we do get a season 3 it’s set in a different time period or different Era in earth’s history
One thing I wish they did was showcase other time periods. Another flaw I noticed is that they kinda just rush the segments, and go from one thing to the next, with some biomes not even being accurate to the actual episode name. At least they toned down on the mating segments. But other than that... not much to say about season 2 really.
Would love for them to step out of the Cretaceous period for future seasons though. For a show called “prehistoric planet” it seems to focus on a very small and already overplayed period of prehistory.

love your videos i think im getting inspired to make a dino channel and show stuff about dinosaurs thank you

It may not have much content as season 1, but it did make up for it with twice the amount of uncovered.
Simosuches is a pug mix with a croc
I would keep it as a pet tbh

It took everything that made the first season great and then some !
close to 1k subs keep up the great work
I’d argue Season 2 was overall a slight improvement on Season 1.
i liked season one better as a whole, but season two has some of my fav moments, like the Isisaurus segment.

Both Seasons 1 and 2 were made about the same time TBF, hence the return to the Maastrichtian setting.

Could you do a video on the austroraptor? I was really interested in that one
Can you do opinions on prehistoric kingdom animals?
