Sometime we need to watch these old movies to watch how was the life in old time n how much humanity was there which is lost in 20's! I tried to find out that despite limited travel modes, people were still struggling to find the true love in hearts. It's a lovely movie, I just got it by name which forced me to watch it.
I am a school student and this is an extract in my textbook of English so our teacher told us so sometime watch the movie and since I don’t have Netflix, I watch it on UA-cam
Joe Gargery is the truest person that ever was. I know he's only a character in a story but I wish I had a friend like Joe Gargery in my life. He never ceased to love Pip even when Pip's attitude towards him changed. He nursed Pip back to health when he was sick and delirious. He was more like a father/best friend to Pip than a brother-in-law. He made me cry when I read that book as a school girl. He made me cry as an adult now watching this. 😭
@@junaidahmed2827 his former wife, Pip's sister, not so much. But his second wife, Becky, was an amazing, honest and loving young woman. Sweet Joe deserved such a kind wife. And they even named their kid after Pip. That shows how they loved and cared for Pip. 😭
@@deepathomas6818 Indeed Joe was an ideal friend, husband & partner. He was caring & selfless man, he deserved to have someone like Biddy which he had in the end.
@Miss Thomas, perhaps if you first of all wish to BE and BECOME a friend like Joe Gargery, you'll once in a lifetime be fortunate enough to find such a friend! Our friends treats, reflect the quality of ourselves as humans beings.
I don't contest this, but read Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. Another great book about character and life in general, friendship, unconditional love, etc. Hugo wanted to write a book to be compared with Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. Altgough the books are different in genre and in timeframe, both are excellent.
Wow!!! What a beautiful movie. I remember I read a few chapters of this book by Charles Dickens during my school days but after so many years seeing it as movie, has really moved me. A very astounding ending....Classical actors and their excellent acting...
Touched. Truly, completely and utterly touched. Charles dicken, wonderful author! Just love how he draws personal life experiences into his books so affectionately! I could read him everyday!!
Ever since I've watched this story it has been my favorite story and also the best story I've ever seen so far. It has a well startings with good ending which has a lot of hidden meanings and unexpected dimensions roles played in it . My eyes rolled into tears. I greatly respect the author of this story.
Great movie. Great cast. Great story. Thank you for posting a great classic with the great actors John Mills, Alec Guiness, Jean Simmons. The great David Lean of course. Love it!
I like the film too, but I can hardly bear with the fact that a middle-aged actor played the role of a 20-year-old Pip!There were several times I could not look at him in the face, especially when he tried to put up an innocent look.
Sunday afternoons watching classics like this in my youth. Just finished having our sunday roast. Then settling down in the living room to watch this beautiful film.
I'm reading this book now in my school and if I sometimes couldn't understand the book, I take a glance on the movie and I do quite understand the chapter..thankyou
It will help, Lot in my exam because I have to read Some Chapters Of this novel for my Exam, And I am feeling Wonderful by seeing this movie , I really liked it !! Most Probably for the Actor Sir John Mills .. so good...really Great Expectations It's Wonderful!
But don't you feel that John Mills was too old for the role? It was quite unbearable to watch a middle-aged actor playing the role of a 19-year-old Pip!
I have never heard of this novel but through this year, I'm in class 11 and this novel came into existence into my life because of some subject which I'm studying now and it really touched my heart which forced me to watch it and i have watched it ❤ As pip falls in every expectations in the beginning but as he grows older, becomes a gentleman every expectations of his came true like finding a beautiful Estella which he was fretting for his whole life❤ Ahhhh loved it 🫶❤️🫂
I like the movie since I had watch it when I was in deeply love with someone, it like our loved that's why I'm so much excited to watch it again. I watch the movie in 2007 ..
they speak English too fluently and smoothly and I started wondering "did I read the story correctly?" + yeah my imagination was big and this movie is almost like what I imagined
I don't know why but the start Dickens has given to this novel gives me goosebumps- _My father's family name being Pirrip and my Christian name Philip, my infant tongue could make of both names nothing longer or more explicit than Pip. So, I called myself Pip and came to be called Pip._ Immense respect! ❤🛐
Preparing for the State level eligibility test and watching this movie ❤ and I am amazed by seeing how beautifully the characters justify their roles especially Pip. Charles Dickens such a great novelist❤
At 1:30:16, Mr. Wemmick says "I want to offer an apology" about the Aged's idiosyncracy. But the original quote in the book is "I won't offer an apology... for he isn’t capable of many pleasures-are you, Aged P.?" (chapter 37) I really love this entire episode. Mr. Wemmick accepts the Aged for who he is and is quite unapologetic about it.
Just read the book and in my experience it made me emotional . The fact that a young man Pip always thinking about marriage and his future goes same for me . What tore me was pip not able to marry Biddy and how he lost his backbone Convict . Also how much he loved Estella but the ending confused as to whether Estella and Pip got married or not?
I would have loved it more if the ending would have been the original one where estella remarries someonelse ,pip settles in cairo still lost in his own world of illusinory *Great Expectations* as he calls it. That would make much more sense. Marriage just for the sake of *a happy ending* was not the right way to end such a lovely deep meaning story.
The ending is actually wrong in this movie... The last lines are "As the morning mists had been risen long ago, the evening mists were rising now; and in all the broad expanse of tranquil light they showed to me, I saw no shadow of another parting from her." This means that it was just the imagination of Pip that Estella has come again.. When the evening mists were rising, Pip did not see any shadow of Estella and realized that it was nothing but his imagination. Estella had already died along with her husband Bentley Drummle.. at the end Pip walked along the road as he remains lonely... All his going to London and getting educated for Estella just not to be common labouring boy had been in vain... Great Expectations is the story of Pip's coming of age... that is why, this is considered to be one of the most gloomy and sad novels ever written! 🥺💔
