Marty, thank you so much. I have been playing for almost 3 years now. I’ve easily learned over 50 songs from you…my playing has come so far. Thanks again, you truly are a legend Sir.
Hey Marty, Thank you, I just started learning guitar about 2 months ago at the age of 54. Previous drummer of over 40 years, and your lessons have greatly helped me learn, again "Thank You."
Thank you for this tutorial, I learned this just in time. My mom's boyfriend whom I've known for half my life and saw at least once a week for the past 10 years got hit by a speeding car. This was one of his favorite songs and he loved it when I played the guitar for him even when I just started out and wasn't good yet. So his sister and his daughter asked me to play this song on his funeral ceremony because he would always tell them about me. I hope I made him proud 💖 I just wanted to share this even though you probably won't read it.
Hey Marty! Started learning guitar when Covid hit. Immediately stumbled upon your awesome videos and have been watching you and progressing ever since. You just mentioned suggestions for new tunes and I have been looking for Lou Reed rock ‘n’ roll strum pattern and chords time. Help!
Thanks for all of your tutorials. They have really given me a lot of new ideas how to practise! Usually I learn these with a guitar and then teach myself how to adapt the song to a uke that is more usual instrument for me. Thanks a lot!!
After studying Justin's video, I checked out yours, and I must say on this song your video is much better. From you I finally got the rhythm. The palm muting and all downstrokes are much better than the up and down strokes Justin was talking about. And I don't need the bar chords he talks about first. I like the way you illustrated each of the sequences. I paid particular attention to the base string of the Em chord, and also the C. The chorus walkdown to the Em I think you hit the 6th string (open E), not a 5th string (B). But on the C the base is probably the 5th string (C) rather than trying to get the G on the 6th string.
I appreciate all you do for us Marty! Thank you! I have a request for a lesson. "Lotta Love" by Neil Young Thank you for making me a better player. Going into my 9th month. A lot of my break throughs are because of your teaching style!
Marty...the main man. I've played this zillions of times on bass, twenty minutes under your tuition, nailed it first time on guitar. thank you Marty, a star!!!
Is there a song Marty that you can't play perfectly? You're the MAN! So funny to see other people's tutorials then compare to your's which somehow always sounds exactly like what I was expecting/hoping to hear. Better yet you can really see the genius of the original artists when you highlight the little things that others miss, well done Marty 👏🏽👍🏼
Marty yess, love everything you do! Down by the river or Cortez the killer for the next Neil young!! many of us would really appreciate a solo tutorial for this song
Hey Mr.Marty Man , could you do a vid for the solo or even better just give some guidance as to how to approach improvising a solo with this tune as an example as it’s quite achievable for many beginners . Keep up the good work . Means a lot to us man. Shine on!
The A+9 chord is what Neil plays at the last turn around ... it is accomplished by just leaving the B string open and he sometimes will hit it hard with an upstroke on the top four strings ... its a very bombastic and dischordant sound ... give it a try
His Marty. Great to find you again. In light of the news about Neil Diamond. Could you show how to play Hell Yeah.....seems fitting. I can't find any lesson on it anywhere. Many thanks and thanks for teaching me to play....
Hi Marty, Been enjoying your videos for a long time. Finally taken the plunge on your new Music Theory for guitar dvd's. Looking forward to studying your course. All the best from across the pond. P.S. I hope they are in the PAL format.
Sometimes when I need a little ego boost, i'll come to marty and pick a nice easy song to learn in 10 minutes. it reminds me i used to struggle to play stuff like this and that i'm actually progressing
Hey Marty, I have a request. Stephen Stills - Just Roll Tape - Wooden Ships. What is the alt tuning and what positions is he grabbing in this recording? Keep up the great work!!! JP
hey marty great job on this one good rockin tune i would love to see nothing else matters by metallica once again thanks for the lessons keep it up man!!!
I don't know if you still check this channel. I really like your style. There is a Kenny loggins song called welcome to heartlight I understand the chords I don't get the strumming pattern
Yes, love this song Marty. It's a really bad ass anti-war(been there) or anti-establishment(actual corrupt administrations) type of song and a good one to know if you want to put your own version out there like I would starting with a storyboard then put video running in the background like in one of his Live versions to tell a story with videos and CGI like I wanna do with this and some other songs. Got the gear just gotta develop the talent to cover all of the artists I love both vocally and guitar wise...Some day. You're the best Marty.
I always thought I heard a high B natural and then a High A natural on the D and C chords respectively. This would mean the D chord was in fact a D6 barred on the 7th fret, with the string either accidentally or intentionally being plucked as well. The same goes for the C on the 5th fret.
That is the beautiful thing about music there is no wrong way to play any song. You can add and take away from any song or play any cord anywhere on the guitar
1:30 - Verse
2:51 - Full verse (slowed down)
3:25 - Chorus
4:18 - Full chorus
5:53 - In-between the chorus and the verse
6:18 - Full song

I heard this song on the radio yesterday and thought, "I'll bet that's not too hard to play," and had to check it out. I was right - Thanks, Marty!
