  • Meishinryu Aiki Jujutsu : Tips of Aiki Training
Meishinryu is new Aiki-Jujutsu of the combination budo of Daitoryu of Okamoto Seigo and Aikido of Steven Segal. It is the new style of Japanese budo, but having Aiki technique of Daitoryu, we are very close to Takeda Sokaku's Aiki Jujutsu.

I have been practicing Aikido for quite a few years and keep forgetting about moving in circles, similar to how you explained about moving uke left before throwing right. Then I had the experience of going against a Judo black belt, doing Randori using Judo rules. I can't move him when I try to throw just on one side but when I started moving him from left to right I was able to take his kuzushi. Our Sensei said that in order for Aiki to manifest, both energies have to meet before we can introduce a new direction. It is good to be able to finally understand Aiki and apply it everywhere, even in restrictive sports like Judo (no wrist locks, no atemi). Domou arigatou gozaimashita!

I'm glad to hear that you found something value for your Aikido. Aiki is made from the circular motion. Everyone knows, but it is very difficult to create that exact motion when you apply it to the actual technique. Keep up practicing.

I am used to aikido and I've always thought daito ryu is more brutal. But I believe with a sensei like this I could fall in love with daito ryu. I don't understand japanese but I like the way they train: relaxed and full of joy. What can you possibly want more?

Personally, I believe Aikido is much better martial arts because its techniques are more peaceful that you would never hurt your enemy, still Aikido can be very brutal too. However, this Aiki technique of Daito Ryu that I learned from Okamoto sensei is the way beyond than Aikido. There are so many styles of Daito ryu, but Okamoto Sensei is just like O-Sensei, Ueshiba Morihei, for me. You will always make a friend with this Aiki, and never make any enemy. This Aiki is just beautiful and the way of harmony.
