Sohyang has a great voice....higher pitch than Mori, but.... this hymn isn't one you really need the high pitched screeches and, whistles , like its a pop song. Morissette just interrupts this beautiful song as it was meant to be , to worship and preach the faith. She just brings the lyrics to life.
But also Morissette can sing this song to the higher pitch and its perfectly she sing it well with her nice tone. Check her on live performance with the crowd. Sohyang can never be great as Morissette just for me. Morissette is another level.

Speaking of higher pitch, try morissette Oh Holy Night performance at Starmall. That will eclipse Sohyang high notes in this performance. But morissette’s version here is distinct: not just in terms of her superior vocal techniques and strength but the song’s arrangement itself is great like no other. You dont hear often this song in its entirety from any singers old and new. Its solemnity, the delivery of the intent of the song which is to hail the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ in a manger on Christmas eve. Morissette’s timber-melisma-strong vocals and her being a great storyteller have added flavor to one of the greatest Christmas jingles of all time. Sohyang is great, but she lacks the vocal agility of morissette. Sohyang is very much predictable because everyone knows her belting power. With morissette everyone is always on their seats awaiting new surprises because she is known to bring new dimensions to every songs she sings. She is that good.

I've already heard about it. Still, some time has passed, and I just listened to it again. I don't understand what you are saying. What do you mean by that Sohyang's Oh Holy Night is obvious and Morissette's version is fresher? If what you mean by freshness is to show off by adding vibrations and whistles that don't go well with Oh Holy Night, then I agree. Oh Holy Night is a Christmas song and ultimately a song to God. In other versions, it starts out calmly and sweetly, and then picks up a few other points and the singers sing with their individual charms. In Sohyang's case, she sings in an appropriate high pitch for the last point, such as "Hear the voice of the angel" and "Lord," praying that her words will reach heaven. To be honest, the Morissette version only makes me feel like, “I’m good at singing~ I can also whistle~”. When I watch Morissette's version, I get the feeling that Morissette sings well, but I don't think it gives any kind of emotion as a Christmas song.

They go out of their way to disparage Sohyang and other foreign singers and try to praise Morissette online. This is a well-known fact in Western and East Asian communities. Okay to be more fair, why dont you compare this sohyang performance with morissette singing at the Starmall also with worse audio and yet she delivered an astounding performance bringing this song to a higher dimension in much higher pitch than sohyang, and hey, the reverberating whistle tone that rendered Mariah’s inferior. This is an excellent song comparison between the two as the settings and recording quality are similar. Sohyang uses far too much decoration and her voice wanders all over the place. She clearly doesn't have the vocal control that Morissette has. Mori's timbre is also much richer, whereas Sohyang's voice is much more nasal. Mori is also a more powerful belter and she can belt without yelling. The clear winner here is Morissette.

Finally comparing Morissette to another world class singer and not an AGT contestant. I think Sohyang is a great artist but I'm not a fan of her high nasal type voice, just to unpleasant on my ears but that's just me. I know she is world class. On the other hand, Morissette's voice is what you would expect from an angel. Just my preference.

Sad, that they heavily pitch corrected Morissette's. There is zero reason to pitch correct her voice, As good as she sounded I know the original, unedited was even better. When will the people editing these realize what looks best on a pitch monitor often doesn't sound best.

This is kind of unfair. This version from Sohyang is the weakest version I've hard from her. Not sure what exactly wrong with it but it doesn't sound right. This version is closer to what she usually sounds like. So Hyang - Oh Holy Night, 소향 - 오 홀리 나잇, I Am a Singer2 20121223. With that said, I don't there is any version of this song that can really compare to Mori's version. She/someone changed the song so well that it sounds like a new song all together. It's almost impossible to compete with that.
As far as who is the better singer, I think, So Hyang has a slight edge on Mori. However, that is to be expected, since Sohyang has 20+ years of experience on Mori. In 10+ years, Mori could be the GOAT.
I like Sohyang's voice a little more than Morissette's but I like Morissette's arrangement of the song more than Sohyang's. Also, Sohyang was just recovering from a long battle with pneumonia. There are over 50 of her performances of this song on youtube. This is not her best.

Sohyang's Korean fans always putting that comment of sohyang recovering from pneumonia and her mix voice technique oh my stop that excuses!!! Sohyang has the highest voice no doubt about that because her voice is so thin that's why she can reach the highest note but her over use of twang even in midbelt to the point her tonality suffers...it's like her nose is clogged..She did many unnecessary high notes even in her English covers and duets that removed the essence and emotions of the song... All I can hear is just high pitch.. monotonous and boring most of the time...

If you read my comment all the way I mentioned there are 50 peformances of Sohyang singing this. Most when she was completely healthy. When people make these they should look for the best performances of each singer. Not the best for one and pick yhe 1 of 50 of the other when she was sick. Why not one of the other 49 when she was in good health?
Sadly the Morissette performance is pitch corrected. Sohyang's is her real voice. I don't think the pitch correction is an advantage for Morissette. The raw audio of her real voice was probably even better than the processed voice we hear here.

@@richardjones3242 I already watched all Sohyang's performances I liked her voice when she sings Korean song like Arirang, Mona Lisa and mellow song like Misty.. the problem in some of her performances is her overuse of twang, diction and clarity.. Singing is not all about hitting the highest note, low notes are also important it gives the song the soul and emotions.. all I hear in most of her songs are the same pitch.. all high pitch... No variety.. and also she needs to be mindful of the song she chooses Mariah, Whitney and Adele's songs are not for her because there are lots of low notes in their songs, the reason why they have to change the arrangement of the song because she cannot hit those low notes.

I am shocked to see so many Filipino comments. They always stick together and leave comments saying they are the best and recommending them. If they were the best in the world... why don't people in the world know Philippine songs? You should also consider why the best music markets in Asia are Japan and Korea, not the Philippines. Even if you look at it objectively, Sohyang surpasses Morissette. Sohyang's vocal technique is already at a high level. (And from the looks of it, Sohyang's video was sung at a local church and is not one of her best performances.) But Morissette is young, so she has a lot of potential to improve. I think the correct answer is that Sohyang is superior now and we don't know what the future will be. If Filipinos fail to face reality and continue to indulge in soups and end up being hated by overseas netizens, they will become lonely. 😢

We are now in a global era where the Internet is popular all over the world. In fact, David Foster also invited Morissette Amon to perform. (That was all...the performance ended in the Philippines) Outstanding musicians such as Lea Salonga were also born in the Philippines. Using the system as an excuse is not the right direction. If a singer can be loved by people all over the world, big capitalist entertainment companies will not want to lose that singer. Filipinos need to face their reality before building up their pride. And in fact, singers who have already proven their skills as professionals, such as Sohyang and Morissette, have their own strengths and characteristics, and are not people that ordinary people can make fun of due to their vocal techniques. The only thing that matters is how they sing and whose performance is more original and creates expectations every time. In that respect, I think Morissette will definitely finish her song well, but I'm not excited about her performance. All she does is look like she's imitating a black singer. However, I look forward to Sohyang's unique performances even more every time. It is impossible to predict. And personally, in the Philippines, I think Lea Salonga and Regine Velasquez are much more characterful and attractive than Morissette Amon.
