Particularly for youth, you first need to know how to do a skill (a crossover dribble, dribble between the legs, etc. etc) before you can transfer the skill to the game like setting. Thus, the clip you showed with youth dribbling with cones, I don't find that automatically a bad thing.

Why? Why do you need skill before technique? The decision to shoot an open shoot I would argue is more important than the technique to shoot. Plus more intrinsic motivation to develop your shoot will come from knowing when to shoot open shots. There is tons of evidence based research around perception action coupling and connecting skills and decisions in the learning process leading to more retention and transfer.

@@BasketballImmersion true, everything starts with a perception and decision before you put it into action. But it brings me to a question, that isn't that an unfinished task if someone doesn't know how to execute that action in the most effective way? I mean you can make a decision to drive 10/10 times but you're not gonna go anywhere if you don't know how to use that in an effective way the driving angles, spacing, position on the floor etc) I believe the same goes with every other skill whether it be a pass, shot. dribbling move, change of pace/stance etc etc. What is your view on this ?

@@zodinpuiichhakchhuak2651 Really appreciate your thoughtful comment. Thank you. Yes technique matters I just don't start with the technique. Technique/skill are linked to an information source. So connect it, followed by if need to do technique specific training, followed be reconnect it. Driving angles, spacing and position on the floor and the advantages or disadvantages they present are linked to an information source so I'm just saying link them, then if need to unlink them, and then link them again.
