It was intentional and you saw him eye up the path to and after the third rail. The cue ball lagging back down for the nine was perfect as well.
if you watch him more often you will realize that he play that shot a lot actually, and most of the time it become a safety so some people dont know this shot until watching this highlight and think that filler was lucky but no, it's his calculation and hardworking practices. what a shot made by such a player.

Ralf Souquet played this shot many years ago. If I remember correctly it was at hill hill in European championships.

His reaction to the shot going tells ya all you need to know it was for sure intentional.

I agree with you. It was an intentional shot with a good potential for a safety. Or at least a very difficult shot for his opponent (who was covering his eyes). In my experience, it's not an easy shot. You really have to practice getting the spin, aim, and speed down. I've tried it several times in a match, but I have yet to make it. Some players think I am crazy when I call the side pocket. LOL
Hehe, just in point! I knew this shot before but I never seen it executed in official match in such a big tournament. I didn't say it in video but I think that he didn't play one rail bank because of pocket's difficulty. His choice was something like good safety with very chance to pot into the side. Anyway, Karl Boyes said that they practice shots like this but there are not many chances to see something like this in tournaments :)
@@MrCueBall Yea, to see someone go full "Efren Reyes" in a tournament is enjoyable. hehe Great shot. Winning is great, but a great shot makes pool beautiful.
I "originally" did it back in March. But many times before as well.
I think he was going corner but made it in side. Either way the cue ball would landed somewhat behind the 9 ball so pretty great shot.
Ralf also played the shot against Ronnie Alcano
I remember his similar shot from European 10-ball Championship but i dont remember what year. I think he played with Mario He🤔

I'm not entirely sure it was intentional where he pocketed it - he wasn't far off the other middle pocket. If he had gone for the double or the other middle pocket he could still have got good position on for the last shot.
Thank you for your comment and opinion. That's why I wanted to show the moment when it was visible that he was checking the angle after bouncing off the bottom short rail. So i think that he played this shot. At least he calculated that it could work and if not, then it would be safe. Same thing said Karl Boyes. I tried this shot many times and always cue ball going very close to the right side pocket. Anyway, if I were in his place, I would definitely try to play one rail bank into the bottom left corner.
He was almost surely aiming for the left side pocket. The cue ball was going where he wanted it to either way, but you could tell by his reaction that he was disappointed it didn't go in the left pocket, but then got excited when he turned and saw it had a chance for the other pocket.
JUST A LITTLE ABOVE ABOVE AVERAGE SHOT FOR A PRIME EFREN THE GOAT REYES
This is over complication of a simple shot. It's 9 ball, you don't need to call the pocket to start.
Bank the object from the end rail to the first side pocket. If you miss short, the ball go long and come very close to the opposite center pocket.
If you miss the second side pocket the object ball basically ends where it started, the cue goes to where it started.
Simple or not, this shot was unusual and we are not able to watch something like this very often.
Pretty remarkable if that’s what he was really going for. I don’t see anybody alive going for that pocket. But there’s only one JFiller.
Not near as difficult or rare as you might think. A high percentage of solid players and better know of that shot. Yes, the odds of making it are probably no better than 1 out of 5 or so, but if your speed is right, you will re-safe very nicely, so there isn't a lot of risk involved.

I think he was playing for left middle!!
Thank you for your opinion! On these matchroom tables with 3,9" pockets it was impossible to play it into the left middle from this angle and this speed. Anyway I still think that he played into the right middle.
Of course it was a fluke. He was playing safety leaving the 8 as close as he could to the top rail around middle diamond, while doing a 3 rail shot with the white leaving the cue ball close to the bottom rail, middle diamond again....hit it perfectly (not his intention) and the ball went in. PS you showed many ways, what he could have done on this situation, except the most obvious one...slow rolling the cue ball into the 8. The 8 touches the rail or if it's a bit hard the stroke the ball would have touched the rail and then the cue ball...both straight. Raga should have played then a difficult 1-bank shot or trying another safety.

Not a reliable shot on any table cause the ball rolls off line when you slow hit the ball. He clearly shows the intention to put the 8 in the middle when he checks it goes past the 9. Low percentage shot for sure but not a complete fluke
@@ryanfarrell153 he was checking the line after clearing the 9. His main intention was safety imo, but i agree with you it wasn't a complete fluke cause there's always a chance to go in the middle pocket, as there was a chance for the ball to hit the jaws and turn out to a disaster. It was a high risk shot from him which worked perfectly. I have to disagree though with your first assessment. We are talking about tables perfectly calibrated (in 99% of the cases), not to mention that snooker players do this stroke all the time on a way bigger table.

Fluke. Absolutely. The bank back into the corner is a simple shot. The shot he ended up making is an extremely difficult shot. And you could see his excitement and surprise, by his reaction to his luck shot.

Yes, the cross-corner bank is a higher odds shot than the one he intentionally made. However, if you miss the cross-corner bank, you will often leave your opponent with an easy out. The shot Filler played is not a rare shot at all. It is played a lot by better players when the situation presents itself. If your speed is right, you will re-safe your opponent very nicely. Because of such high odds of a re=safe, is the reason why he went for it and there is no chance he fluked it. How would I know? Because I have played against many of them, and I know from experience that the shot Filler played is just one more shot that every one of the good players know and practice every now and then just to make sure their speed is right for a different table.

I don't think it matters and it's a total coincidence. He was standing there so he could put the chalk wherever he wanted.
Actually, you're only not allowed to use chalk for 1-rail kicks and banks because you can't use it as a direct aiming reference. The fact the chalk was on the 3rd rail of the bank can't be considered an aiming point, even if that's where he intended the cue ball to hit. No referee in the world would call that a foul and hopefully people aren't in their club games, either.

well he placed it over a diamond so the chalk is irrelevant anyway in this case as the point is already marked
