    Camry have 8 speed auto, except hybrid has ecvt. No cvt in regular Camry.
    I agree with all of the comments, just bought 2024 Camry XLE, 4 cylinder, did break in oil change at 1,000 miles and will do 5,000 miles oil changes after that.

      You're throwing money away by changing oil so frequently. That made sense 20 plus years ago. With the close tolerances of today's modern engines and synthetic oils your logic makes no sense.

      That this mechanic doesn’t know/understand the differences between a conventional CVT transmission, and Toyota’s eCVT in the Camry Hybrid, will only breed further confusion/misinformation. To be sure, WS fluid specified for a Camry’s eCVT shouldn’t be treated as a “lifetime fluid”, but 30K mile replacement intervals are excessive. 50K miles is more than adequate for a Toyota eCVT fluid change interval.

    Years ago, my air conditioner on my Jeep quit working. They wanted to replace the evaporator compressor and condenser. But they didn’t know it already had the evaporator replaced. It was brand new and the only reason I replaced was because I had to fix the heater core. When I told them it had already been replaced, they got angry with me and said they’re not in the business of fixing other peoples problems. Taking it to a mechanic who did a test and found out it was the condenser in front of the radiator we replaced that and it had no issues so fixed my problems and they wanted to charge over 1000 to replace the whole system and it did not need to be replaced

    I'm with you 10,000 miles is way too many miles on engine oil, even synthetic oil. I change my oil every 5,000 miles.

      Even 10k miles is way too conservative. It’s good for 12-15k highway miles. 200k miles is nothing for a Toyota. No reason to get rid of it.

      @@user-tb7rn1il3q - Check out the Car Care Nut channel if you want some real examples of what 10k oil changes do to a Toyota engine. It will last through the warranty period, but most likely would never make it to 200k. The money you saved on doing half the oil changes will just be a down payment on the engine replacement cost.

    Stumbled on your channel and it came at the right time as I am looking at the Honda Civ and Toyota Camry both of which you have mentioned and use which is a great sign for me. I did take a look at your Honda & Toyota schedule but Toyota seems to be missing. Just for your own information. Keep up the channel and I will continue to learn more about ...well cars!

    I don't trust mechanics because I've been burned (or lied to) a few times by them. So now I don't know whether a problem really exist in my car when a mechanic says one exists, or if they really changed my oil when they said they did. For instance, for my old car, I was told that my cam carrier was leaking; and then a second opinion said it wasn't. For my new car, I was told my oil was changed; then six months later for my next oil change, I was told that the drain plug is still factory new . . . I wish I could just find an honest mechanic.

      There are good ones out there. Do your homework. Read good and bad reviews. See how they respond WHEN something goes sideways.

    thanks for the great advice, exactly what my boss told me, the best education on customers is when they come back and have no questions, you as a dealer have to know more then the people's who buy your product, I've been living over 30 years in Germany and even th Germany are not satisfied with ther European cars, with their life long intervals, like they say, once you payed the product it's not their problem, product anymore, regardless what people say because you broke your product and they didn't,, and parts made from plastics and then say it's cheaper to buy but not to maintain in a long term base. thanks for the video Sir and great advice.

    Totally agree with you. I've been driving for 65 years, I believe in the old way to change oil. I run my vehicles in for the first 1,000 miles. I have an oil change, in the past, I've had to argue with Toyota service MANAGERS, telling me, no need to change it until 10,000 miles. The same dealership wanted to do a A/C system flush after the first 1,000 miles, ($90). I asked a different dealer, who said they'd never heard of that at 1,000 miles.

      That is a new one. Never heard of an A/C flush on a functioning ac system. That is something you only do while the system is open for other repairs.

    Another story. I had a 94 forerunner that had a recall due to head gaskets. It was deemed that it needed a short block covered by warranty. While they had had the engine apart, I asked them to put some new parts on. The dealership try to charge labor as if the parts were still on the vehicle They had to remove the water pump spark plugs timing belt to put them on on the new block. After a call to Toyota they did like I asked.

      I have fortunately....or unfortunately been doing this long enough to remember when Toyota was doing a lot of heads and engines on the Toyota V6. haha

    Yep I used to work for Toyota at the service center and I use to get that question all the time about 10k mileage oil change intervals on the phone and I always told them don’t do that! I never heard anything about not servicing the transmission fluid but if I got that question I would tell them the same thing you mentioned as well. Same as true for Hondas and I do that on all of my Hondas as well.

    In 2004 I purchased a new Scion XB car from Toyota my very first oil change was complimentary service at the dealership. The service writer seemed very genuine until he said that my timing belt was cracked and should be replaced this was less than three months after rolling the car off the lot. I may have been born at night but it wasn’t last night! I wanted to jump over the counter and hit the service writer not to kill him just maybe knock some sense into the person who until a second ago sounded like he had some understanding about Toyota cars.
    I asked the dealership at around 60,000 miles about changing the transmission fluid but they didn’t think it was necessary, I should have done more research I could have still been driving that car today 20 years later.
    You are correct in your assessment of dealership maintenance they only have two motivation’s get you to buy a new car, wash rinse and repeat.
    Spend your hard earned money on what the service writer suggested.
    By the way the Scion comes with a chain drive timing for cam shafts.
    That is why I was so angry.

      Yeah oil changes need regularity but from my experience as long as you buy the car 85-90k mile range you can generally do a drain and fill and the transmission will still live a long life.

      A prepurchase inspection goes a long way here! a good mechanic can tell you what the service records would. especially with fluid samples!

      @@slscamgthere can be a possibility the person who had the car before skipped the second transmission fluid drain at 60k miles. I heard if you skip a CVT transmission drain/ exchange the transmission will fail when you do it way over the mileage interval.

    I can add also customers have become more disconnected to the car they drive. 26 years ago I got into the auto repair industry and most my customers knew something about what’s under the hood. Now a days not so much. Add to the facts info on car care is all over map it’s like who is right. I will say it’s best to do 30,60,90 maintenance! It really is the best way to keep a car running good and keeping major repairs away.

      Thank you! My fluid change intervals are fairly simple. Any fluid I can test (brake fluid and coolant), I change anytime it is anywhere close to failing the test. Any fluid I can inspect (transmissions with dipstick, power steering fluid), I change anytime they show signs of darkening which is typically every 30k miles. Any fluid that I can not check or is a little more time consuming to check during a quick inspection (transmission w/o dipstick, differentials and transfer case) I service every 30k miles.

    This is a great honest video. I know Hyundai has gotten away from the 7 and 10 K oil changes. 95%of people are under the severe duty and there oil change interval now is 3.750 mile recommend for severe duty.

    Obviously some people in the comments didn't understand that you were only stating what you do with your cars. I agree with you on oil changes. I have a 2019 Ranger I have the oil changed at the dealership when my truck states I have 50% oil life! Modern cars use an algorithm based on how you drive, instead of specific miles driven. At 50% oil life that usually equates to around 5 to 6 thousand miles driven, that is when I change my oil. I use Mobil 1, have been using that since the 80's, have never had an oil related failure. Also tranny fluid, my Ranger is sealed, no dipstick. The recommended oil change is over 100K! That is insane. I was starting to have shifting issues and some erratic behavior. No codes were ever displayed, Ford dealership I use and trust couldn't find any issues. This was around the 50K mark, I should have changed oil at 30K, I let it slip. The dealership did a fluid flush, which was recommended. All issues I was having were gone. I have an extended warranty, so the tranny service I had done is on record with Ford. I normally don't agree with flushing a tranny, in my case it did no harm. Change that tranny oil every 30K miles, your wallet will thank you.

    Agree that the manufactuer's service interval recommendations are too long in most cases. I use full synthetic but change the oil in my truck every 5-6k. Same with the wife's Honda CRV. Lucky here in Vancouver, WA that we have a good independent shop close by. They do excellent work and charge fair prices.

    At 5:51 on your video, you mentioned a downloadable guide to Toyota maintenance. I have a Toyota Highlander (2018Limited ice) and a Honda. 1. I couldn’t locate the guide on your website. 2. Would the guide be applicable to my CRV (2024 EX-L) also? GREAT job!

    Are your Camry’s hybrids? The ICE Camry 8th generation 2018-2024 had an 8-speed transmission that was NOT CVT.

    I own a 2016 tundra and as you’re explaining I’m getting differing advice on transmission fluid change duration. My shop, a local independent-highly recommended and specialized in Toyota, is recommending waiting for Toyotas mileage recommended mileage. Another UA-cam channel, the car care nut, recommends 60k. I rarely trailer and my trailer is a single axle. What are your thoughts.

      If it was my truck, I would do it every 30k miles. If it was my customers vehicle, I would still recommend it every 30k miles but would be ok stretching it to 60k if the customer insisted. The thing to keep in mind is it is Preventative maintenance not necessarily required maintenance. I want my truck to last as long as possible and drive the way it does as long as possible. I am servicing mine every 30k miles to better my odds...not to guarantee my odds. That make sense?

    This is why I buy new cars only, service them myself and drive them until they fail. Buying a used car, you never know how the previous owner maintained the vehicle until it's too late. The downside is, I'm still driving old cars because they tend to last 15+ years, well over 200K miles. I'm still driving the 2003 Camry (2.4) and 2008 Corolla. Both run perfectly, neither burns or leaks a drop of oil. 5k full synthetic, 30k trans fluid change. No major repairs so far.

      I have 2007 Camry six with 71k, but it sits in garage in Texas most of the time. Maybe put 1500 miles a year on it now. Oil change every 1 or 2 years. I know 2 years is too long. How should I be maintaining a car I don't drive much?

      For ecvt hybrid, every 60-90k miles 6-9 years, for 8 speed automatic, every 40-60k miles 4-6 years, drain and fill I think is good. Just have to do it correctly with fluid level with scan tool.

      It depends on the vehicle. If I have access to transmission cooler hoses/lines, I use my fluid exchange machine. If I don't have access to transmission cooler hoses, I do a drain and fill.

    I agree to change your transmission fluid regularly when the time is due but we got a 2005 4runner at home that we purchased brand new at the dealer and had it serviced at the dealer the first few years and they always recommend not to replace the transmission fluid because they said it was lifetime. We listen to them because we figured they knew more than we did but the first transmission fluid change should of been at 60k miles. To be honest with you the truck is 19 years old and has 240k miles & the transmission is just fine. That goes to show you how reliable Toyota is.

      Yes, it is hard to find anything more reliable than an 05 Runner. And yes, I have had customers that ignore my service recommendations and still make it past 200k miles without major failures. I can promise you this though, servicing your vehicle regularly greatly increases your odds.

    My friend bought a used GM product. He asked me what he should do as a "tune up" I mentioned break fluid when I said change all your fluids.
    He said, no GM doesn't recommend changing break fluid.
    I know longer give him car advice .

    It's interesting that, while Toyota touts a 10k mile oil change interval (normal service), the Maintenance Required light on the instrument panel of my 2015 Highlander lights up at the 5k mile mark.

    Do you use a CVT fluid filter? Like a Magnafilter? I use it on my 2004 Honda which has an external filter.

      No, we do not ever add in filters. We feel it is more likely to cause an issue than avoid an issue.

      I used to like that idea also. But then consider, adding it in affects the volume and pressure, esp. as the filter fills its media. Lower volume and pressure will kill the component much quicker - and God forbid, you sell the car and don't tell them to replace that unexpected filter regularly!

    The #1 reason for distrust is incompetence and dishonesty. Dealt with 3 shops in 4 years in Florida - one was a Lexus dealer - all were dishonest and incompetent: the Lexus dealer claimed they cleaned the throttle body and that it had to be replaced at $2200 (and tons of other issues that I had to fix: wrong wiper size, belt tension not set correctly, all fluids low, etc. ) . Cleaned it myself and had no problem since. Another shop was a total nightmare - they discarded a lot of support brackets and did not install a mount stabilizer on the active engine support so the car vibrated. The installed heat exchanger leaked on the SRS module and killed it. The third one left the gear shifter mounting nuts loose - I had to disassemble all lower dash to fix that. Then claimed that I need another $3500 in repairs - which was BS. The 4th shop was honest. And I do understand that mechanics are underpaid - so here's the result.

      We test brake fluid and coolant with a dip strip ever visit. Brake fluid test strip is checking for moisture and copper content. Coolant test strip tests for PH and freeze/boil levels. If they ever fail or are close to fail, we recommend a flush. It is typically every 3 to 5 years.

    I own 2016 Chrysler 200C AWD and I have changed my Oil with Synthetic since day one, I do not get close to 5,000 miles on oil change, rule of thumb I use is change oil every 6 months.
    I let Chrysler dealership change oil, been doing car maintenance for 40 year just tired of doing it.

      Once it's done that many miles the clutch material in the fluid is what's keeping it working, just leave it alone and hope for the best by that point.

      Yes I would service it. It has been many years since the old transmissions with thick clutches would display an issue after replacing the old fluid. If fluid is nasty, I would service it and then keep a close eye on it on the next couple oil services. If it stays fairly dirty or gets dirty again before the next 30k mile mark, I would likely service it an extra time.

      I do recommend manual transmission fluid every 30k miles but based on use, it can be stretched to 50k miles.

    It's Toyota pushing the stupid idea of "low cost of ownership" . That's what has led to all these increased fluid change intervals... My rule of thumb is to cut all OEM intervals In half if you want your vehicle to last

    I change my hybrids at 5k! Smells gassy. I'm in the upper Midwest. I warm up slowly in the winter. I do severe service intervals on everything I am in Minnesota.

    Took my wife's car to the local Toyota dealer and they over filled it by 3 and a half qrts of oil you cannot trust anyone with oil changes anymore. I told my wife from now on they show her the oil level before she leaves. I have my own guidelines I always change oil every 5k synthetic, every 3k conventional oil, and every 45k on automatic transmission service. I do not buy CVT, but if I did I would service it every 25k miles because I have see CVT fluid after 20k miles its bad. If I had a turbo engine I would change oil every 3500 miles with synthetic turbos get too hot and oil breaks down sooner. Just how I service my own vehicles and I have not lost a transmission or engine.

    I have a small home based shop. I am not interested in client's that dont want to service or maintain their vehicles. They can take it elsewhere. Unmatsined vehicles are much harder to diagnose and repair.

      My Camry's will be getting 0w16 because that is what is called for. 0w20 can be used in a pinch but the manufacturer designed and tested it with 0w16.

    The dealership doesn't want your car to last 200k miles or more. They want to sell you repairs and a new car every 100k miles or so. Dealerships are independently owned, not by Toyota.

      Not true at all I’m a Toyota dealership technician and we love to see cars go way about 200k. They don’t push us either to get customers to trade there cars in. We actually prefer customers to keep there cars as long as it’s worth it.

    The rattling noise I have in my 2012 Camry driver side dashboard is impossible to detect. Most say it is damper inside the electric power steering unit. Unreal that a piece that cost $6 bucks can take $ 500 dollars in labor.

      Transmission and rear differential every 30k miles. Coolant, have it tested every oil service. Should last about 5 years.

    That 10k service is a consequence of "Toyota Care" with its two free oil changes in the first 2 years.
    The true service interval, under the Severe Driving category, is that 5k OCI, the 30k transfer case / tranny fluid.
    Its a bit disingenuous for Toyota to claim you only need a 10k OCI when most of its customers are short tripping, stop and go, city type driving. Yes that's listed in the maintenance, but calling it "severe" makes it sound like an edge case.
    It really should be be a Standard schedule with a 5k OCI and a "almost nobody gentle driver" schedule of 10k
    If Toyota Care was truly about longevity, it would be a 5k OCI over 2 years.

      They are typically a good deal. The problem is that in our area, the local dealers have their least experienced "technicians" doing their oil services. Not the tech I would want touching my vehicle before headed down the road.

    My opinion is Toyota is claiming long engine oil intervals and lifetime intervals on their transmissions...only to appeal to people for SALES...SALES...and MORE SALES. I've owned two Camrys (2005 & 2020) and I'm disappointed that Toyota is deceiving their customers like they are. That's just plain wrong. I understand other car makes are doing the same thing. They are preying on people who "don't know any better!" Shame on them!

    I've always said, fluid are cheap compared to they price of a transmission, engine or radiator. I change much earlier than manufacturer states. Still running like new a 2004 Solara with 291,500 miles. No new cars for me. No payment, few if any repairs and low cost to insure ( no need for collision, it's basically worthless).

      Read lots of good and bad reviews. Then most importantly, see how the owner/manager responds to feedback. Then call and have conversations with shops to see if what they market lines up with what they actually do.

      We used to recommend fluids quite often 3 years or 30k miles but we have found that the more simple we can make it, the better our clients understand. It is rare that we change fluid based on age unless a vehicle sits for a crazy long time.

    They are following BMW, and formerly Mercedes. The cars would either burn out the engine at 100K miles or trans at 120k miles. And after their customers had a class action lawsuit, they backed off from the 'lifetime fluid' BS. There is no such thing in the Universe. For those cars, 5-7k miles on the oil, 60-80k on the trans/diff. 30k on the trans is excessive, but I don't know how crappy toyotas transmissions are IRT heat. Once the fluid starts cooking, acid and sludge comes next. And as far as cars go, finding a well maintained used car over the 120k mile hurdle is about as cost efficient and reliable as you're going to get. Everything that's gonna break or need service, will break, by 120k. Buying new is only better if the former option isn't available.

    in my opinnion only. people dont plan on keeping anything long term anymore, & really dont care about long term longevity.if they kept the vehicles LONG TERM they would soon learn the importance of maintenence extending longevity.they would rather save the maintenence money & trade it in.wasting MANY thousands in the process.then wonder why they allways have a huge car payment?

      This is true. If you lease a new vehicle every 3 to 5 years, do the bare minimum. The service we invest in during the first 100k miles is typically to better our odds in the second 100k miles.

    My Toyota has had a number of connector problems. The contacts tend to corrode and give intermittent readings. This is an expensive repair and can fail on the road!

    I trust what Toyota says. Have had several Toyotas from Yaris,Corolla. Camry and ran them all 200,000 plus. Never a fluid caused failure. The new high quality synthetic fluids are fine for 10,000 to 15,000 intervals as long as a best grade filter is used. Unnecessary fluid changes are expensive, VERY expensive.

      If you changed your oil every 10-15K and are over 200K with no engine oil burning issues, I would consider yourself lucky. The 10K oil change interval is a marketing gimmick to make you think it’s cheap to maintain the new Toyota.

    Unless you drive under extreme conditions frequently there is absolutely nothing wrong with changing engine oil at 10k using synthetic of course. It's an old school way of thinking that is not relevant with todays modern synthetics. You're just wasting money and polluting the environment with these statements. As far as transmission fluid I go by what Toyota recommends. Again, if you live in Phoenix then change the trans fluid by 60k. If not then going 100k or more is perfectly ok at least on the 6 and 8 speed transmissions. I cant comment on cvts as I have no experience with those.

    No offense, This whole change the oil at 3,000 or 5,000 miles is a scam just like service your transmission. I live in Colorado I have a 2015 Tundra And I'm sitting at 392,000 miles on it. Never serviced the transmission On any of my trucks. I change the oil every 15,000 miles 0 issues. I pull a camper and 4 wheelers All the time through the mountains since i RV fulltime. Now that being said probably 90% of my mileage is highway I don't burn or use any oil Between changes. This is my fourth tundra and everyone was at or over 300,000 when I traded them off. Again with absolute zero issues. I do service my transfer case front dif and rear diff once a year. And other regular maintenance Such a spark plugs Little things like that.

      I will agree with you and say that you are absolutely right for Majority
      of the drivers out there. People that take these short drives or a lot of city driving Yes they probably need to change the fluids more often because that oil does not heat up properly as it should That could result in the Additives In the oil breaking down prematurely Causing moisture, or Acid build up And other things. Engines and transmissions are meant to work. I've always been a firm believer Using HIGH quality oil you Can get more out of them..IMO
