Got this guitar in cherry red last month. It's incredible. My guitar pedals have been unused since then because I love the rich clean tone so much. Inspires me to up my playing to its level.

Having no experience with Eastman, I made a reservation for the one classic finish they had on stock and wanted to look at some of the reviews in the net to justify the purchase. thanks Peter - this guitar is fantastic and I dropped some chrome xl flatwounds on it and it has a much warmer jazzy tone. But, alas it takes too much away from all that this guitar can do. So, I have improved and am becoming more vested in applying myself - if I can conquer a couple disciplines then I think in the near future I might be searching for a 503ce or the ar380ce because this T486 just doesn't bring "all" that an archtop will. It is very versatile - but I truly desire to get an archtop - what would you say the differences are?
Lovely, personal review. I just pulled the trigger on an almost identical guitar the other day, so it was nice to have another reinforcement to my decision!
Just a gorgeous flame on that classic! Really thinking of getting one. Always lusted after a 335 but can't afford one. This looks like the perfect substitute. Loved your honest review too. Thanks Bad Jazz Dad!
thanks - its been able to stand the test of time - I now have 4 more Eastman's. Wish I could tell you that it was my go to - I picked up a Pisano ar380 and now consider myself just plain ole Jaz Dad - ergo - I play that wonderful piece of art and chord melody generator! It is beautiful and I am amazed every time I pick it up! It is worth the money every bit.
Eastman is the way to go ... they said who are PRS at one time. I have 2 Eastmans looking to buy my 3rd the quality and attention to detail is off the chart but get this I live in Hong Kong and can't buy Eastman here I bought mine from Holland.

" Misty " , but it needs a little work ( practice ) . I like the arrangement , and I think it will sound great with a whole bunch of practice ! These guitar are Super Duper build quality , playibility and sound . It is a thing of beauty , and I can tell you that it is more important to have a proper setup on your guitar than a proper brand .
waiting for news of 2nd Stim check to pull trigger on lefty T486. One year later: T486 is my best guitar to date out of many USA made . Got a SB59 GoldTop yesterday…. Great guitar, as good or better than my Traditional.
The T 59 has the hand rubbed finish. I have a reddish brown 486 and it’s sprayed lacquer. Liked my Ibanez AS103 in Burl just as much w super 58’s Mayyyy trade Eastman for it back
Thank you for this video, I played this model in Cherry Red finish in Rudy's Music store in New York. Total quality from top to bottom, and I found a second hand AR-371-CE2 locally here in Singapore, that is just an astonishing instrument but I'm still hankering after a T486. That 5-ply binding was simply spell-binding!
well done Ray! I am hoping to post a full version of the song in the next few months. Played live the other day - not Jazz (hahah) and had a blast and this guitar played beautifully. Can't say enough about the versatility
JazzyJunior thanks for the encouragement. I am getting much better and I love this guitar! Went to GC in town and so much of what they sell is junk, it make quality feel good in the hands and to the ear! Keep on playing! But it was the beginning to Misty + hahaha

You started 'Misty' and then played two bars of 'Autumn Leaves.' Guitar sounds good. Keep learning those standards. You'll expand your chordal vocabulary. Next, some scale studies and you're on your way. Attaboy.
Try one out at the Melbourne Guitar Show, Australia....Excellent they are hand made so I've been told...very good ........I tried it cause I'm a Larry Carlton fan..very impressed

How's she holding up after 3 years ? 👍🏻 I've been offered a swap for a T484 for my Godin LGX which has Seymour's, Piezo and Synth Access, amazing guitar the Godin, but as I have a 2nd it might make sense to add a hollow body especially as the T484 is only 14" radius body versus the standard 16". Love an ebony fretboard or richlite which the Godin has, rosewood has poor contrast and just looks dull.
I would say medium fret - not jumbo - but you can check the spec sheet - they list the type of fret wire. I don't know if that gives so much the material as opposed to the size though. They are vey comfortable. I am currently running chrome flat wounds (which I love - first time playing) so not really bending - mostly comping.

Great question. I went to Flatwoods until this experience was so good I decided to jump all in and by a legit archtop jazz box. Pissano 380. I have flats on that and put round back on the 486 to use for more versatile playing now. I am going to be doing a lot more updates and new reviews over Christmas break if I can.
@@jeremycook4720 Nice, I am about getting the T486 too - great guitar. Although I own a D'Angelico EXL 1 as a "real" Archtop-Jazzguitar, I will probably also try Flatwounds on the Eastman, because I will mostly use it for Jazz and Blues. Looking forward to your upcomming videos!
it's not chunky - it is a lot like a C but realize these are hand made so each one is going to feel a little different. But I would say C and a little bit thin for playing jazz. I know there are some times I wish I had a little more neck to get some leverage for certain chords - yet because of that I know I am able to get my hand around quicker. My recommendation is try one if you can.
Neck is slim. some really don't like that - but it is comfortable in my personal opinion. I do wish it was a bit thicker as sometimes for certain chord structures I would prefer a little more meat back there to grab hold of - but I would say for me - that is a sacrifice I am willing to take as the majority of my playing responds well to the neck. Hope that helps - basically it is a slim neck

Have this exact guitar, perhaps a little darker finish...but it's the best I've ever owned, bar none.

I think the 335 is now an imitation of the Eastman , I would take that Eastman over the Gibson any day ,
