  • This is a short summary of a larger documentary about the Curaçao pianist and composer Edgar Palm (1905-1998). For decades Edgar Palm has been a central figure in the musical life in Curaçao. In 1950 musical group “Edgar Palm & Trio” was formed. This group has recorded 37 singles, eight LPs and one CD with classical Antillean dance music. As a composer, Edgar Palm wrote numerous compositions including typical Curaçaon waltzes, danzas, mazurkas and tumbas and the music for four Antillean ballets that were performed with enormous success in the former “Roxy theatre” in Punda.
    For all his music contributions Edgar Palm received several awards and decorations: the Cola Debrot award, Knight in the order of Oranje Nassau, the Orden Francisco de Miranda tercera clase from Venezuela, Officer in the order of Oranje Nassau (by promotion), the Orden Francisco de Miranda primera clase from Venezuela (by promotion) and the Silver Anjer from the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds in The Netherlands.
    The larger documentary was broadcasted by the NOS in 1992 on Dutch TV. The documentary was produced by Mike Roland productions, Ray Kril (camera) and Theo Raben (sound & editing).
