Mariah’s vocal chords have definitely deteriorated. But I’m glad she’s adapting her songs to her abilities and is still doing what she loves which is why I’m a fan.

When she does the growl on “soul” in that belted bridge to make it happen it was superb. She did well, she’s 50, and human. Her songs are DIFFICULT to sing and her voice has matured, but somehow she has still managed to relatively well sing songs from her vocal primes. Overall solid A performance Mariah.

tf? No he didn't. He graduated from William Paterson University with a standard teaching certificate. He did a small role at Juliard as a staff member teaching dancers how to sing background vocals for theater. He also played piano for a damn cruise line. That guy's ego is thirsty. To his credit he teaches drama and he's a lot of it. Mariah's mom actually graduated from Juliard and was a professional Opera singer who gave MC vocal lessons since she was 4.

I am a fan - but Mariah Carey vocals are relaxed along the song but tense at the beginning - could hear that extra push of air through with her vocals in adding pressure to her chest & head voice. But overall a great performance 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Since I am not a big Mariah fan, I'm only 5'4" tall, I think I let her personal life influence my opinion of her singing. I will concede that this performance was delightful. It wasn't all tricked up with effects to make her sound better than she is and as you say she is human. I guess since my musical tastes went in a big way to the Blues, I have a hard time giving Pop much time in my limited brain. If I am going to listen to Pop I usually try some off label artist that I can find in the $1 bin at the local thrift stores. You'd be surprised by the artists that didn't make the big time but who make a living by touring and developing a niche' following. My last few years have turned things upside down and my stereo equipment has sat around in conditions they weren't supposed to endure, and they didn't. So I have a pile of equipment that needs to go.
So you never heard of ADHD? You have just had an example of what I've battled all my life, staying on point, for anything. So back to Mariah. I think she did a good job and I might be open to hearing from her again. Thanks for your reaction as always, I enjoyed it a great deal. Until the next time.

I'm a huge MC fan, part of the lambily. I really appreciate your comments on her performances. And I also just wanted to suggest that you stop listening to people telling you how to pronounce her last name. There are over 10 accents for pronouncing her last name in just the US so I think you're just getting very targeted advice that's not relevant to the whole audience, and for anyone in the US - they can recognize all of the ways you've pronounced it, even what I would characterize as a British English accent (I lived in London for a year). So basically I would suggest that you stop listening to those critiques, your English is fabulous. Thanks again so much for putting MC on your channel!!

No parts of her home videos are dubbed. You guys are like a dog with a bone when you learn a new word and apply it to everything. Home video performances are sung multiple times back to back. Sometimes they'll just pick a performance in it's entirety and others they'll mix and match between the takes to provide the best of the best from that night. Nonetheless, It's all sung live that night.

She does have nodules and in a video it was noted that because of them she can have times where notes are easy to hit or difficult. Sometimes certain notes come out raspy and seconds later she sings the same note and it comes out clearly. I have noticed this even when she just started in 1990. She has always had the nodules from what I can tell. It’s just shocking to me how she slayed us and continues to do so! There is a video of her going to the voice doctor and also videos of her taking breaks from talking for her voice. I do believe she continues to do this. I’m not sure if she has ever talked about surgery for her nodules but I would think she would be scared of the possible risks of such a surgery.
Through the rain is difficult as it is, constant head voice and very high constant belting, that's why she doesn't sing it much, its a vocally demanding song
Climax in that song is really hard, a bit like Butterfly but the sustained note is really difficult because it's straight, no falsetto and then starts ascending little by little

What you said about her lower chest voice now I think is true. I believe she has to work harder to phonate because her vocal cords don’t come together as easily. Falsetto/whispers usually seems to be effortless for her. I think because her vocal cords don’t close fully for the nodules it’s very easy to be airy and access whistle register. What do you think?

It's already lowered. She lowered the belts to F#5 in her prime, and she did some after prime, but she's mostly lowered them to E5's. The studio version is G5
the studio version has a f5 in that part, she lowered it a semitone, so the f#5 its higher than the studio version, anyway she hit a brief f#5 here

What is the cause of the more nasally tone she is singing in here compared to the original recordings? I have been a HUGE fan of Mariah's since her debut, but I really do not like hearing a nasally tone and really wish she could regain more of her original, weightier tone. Would this be possible for her? If so, how could she achieve it?
She has. She chooses to give her voice a different texture, you hear her singing "There's got to be a way" and her chest belt sounds exactly the same as the original in 1990. Remember she is an alto so her voice is always going to have a heavy sultry tone. That nasal tone seems to be choice. She is not known for a nasal tone like the one Celine has developed in the last years. As a matter fact is the first time I hear it, live she usually has a strong chest belt and her upper chest is the damaged area so usually she mixes but never brings a nasal tone, perhaps the choice is to make a more "friendly" sound to the venue instead, so it suits it better and makes it a bit more round and comfortable somehow, but her chest voice always has a dark sultry sound and the moment she starts ascending through her range it gets a bit more piercing and has a "cry" very unique to her voice like the climax of We Belong together.
@@darylacesantos her upper chest belting has always had a characteristic of being very "headier" it always tend to go that way, remember she is a master supporting low notes and really high notes so her mids to high tend to be a bit weaker so she adds that "cry" so her voice sounds more comfortable. The thing is that Make it Happen is a very low song before the climax and I believe compared to the original this version is 1/2 faster and the phrasing is a bit difficult.

I don't think she's keeping up with her practice as much as she should. I still think parts of her voice could come back if she'd work at it, but I also see her schedule for the past few years. I don't know if we hear much of Mariah with a rested voice. During her Daydream tour she only sang 1 concert per WEEK so she could sing well each concert. 2010's, she's doing back to back performances, up to 3-4 week, residencies, tours, private shows, headlining events - it's too much. some say deterioration, I say fatigue.

She's still young but why her vocal is kinda damaged already. I think her throat is so sensitive specially from weather. But nonetheless, she has nothing to prove. She's a legend.

If you didn't know, a huge reason why her voice is like this is because of her nodules and 30 years of touring, concerts, and recordings! I am just very happy that she's still singing after all this time. She has nothing to prove anymore because she's a living legend that sold over 200 million albums worldwide and earned a lot of accolades!
Lonely Heart her voice is damaged it has been her whole career she has what are called vocal nodules it’s like a callous like you get on your skin except on your vocal cords. Babies can get them and they can happen in childhood which is most likely when she got them. Mariah used really good vocal technique meaning she was singing correctly unfortunately if you continue to sing with nodules your voice will get worse over time. It’s like not addressing a cut if you don’t if gets worse with time.

No, but she does finally have a record that's her own now or she would if its accomplished - i only see 3. The vocal trinity didn't simply have a single record - they had numerous each unique to them along with huge sales over a 10 year period and beyond. Ariana would be competing with her peers from today, not from another generation. 2020's seems to be the decade of duets.
