I was not aware about the zinc. Thanks for that information.
My dad told me about it, but it's very hard to find zinc spray. My local nursery only had a spray with some zinc in it and wasn't that familiar with the zinc.
Sir,
I live in zone 8-9 and have 3 trees.
They produce many pecans, but they are dry inside and almost just skins.
Please tell me how to get some real pecans.
Thanks,
HGP

Thank you. We knew nothing about pecan trees, and we have a huge pecan in our back yard. It might take a couple of years to get it back to where it should be, but we'll be fertilizing it, watering it, and caring for it properly from now on.
ANNE MARTIN how's your tree doing? I'm in same kind of situation.
NMSU is the best !
Thinking of more sustainable ways to keep these trees healthy and productive, would it be possible to grow green manure crops around the tree (bare dirt for a 6' circle around the trunk), and at the right time, disc it in, then before harvest, lightly roll the dirt flat? For example, clover roots go deep, concentrate the nutrients they get in the green portion above the ground, and fix nitrogen into the soil. If more irrigation is given, the clover is mowed down weekly using the clippings to feed live stock like chickens, and then disced down at the right time in late summer allowing reseeding to take place, then lightly flattened down with a roller before harvest for picking, would this work?
Thanks for the zinc information
my 95 year old neighbor claims that it is important to bury a whole can of lye (with several nail holes in it) at the drip line of a pecan tree. I dunna know if that is a wives tale or real wisdom.
My 84-year-old grandmother told me the same thing just yesterday. Said an old man once told her father that tip about 150 years ago and he had seven of the most beautiful and fruitful pecan trees in East Texas that I've ever seen! I'm tempted to try it ...

Hello Don, about four years ago I bought two pecan trees In Las Cruces. Now they're about 4 inches at the trunk and at this time they have yield about very 30+ healthy looking nuts. I noticed some nuts had a web-
like white on them and one had a little almost white worm which it seemed to have eaten its way thru. What are the necessary procedures I need to cure it. Please help before it starts getting worse
