Absolutely true. Malay locals of these archipelago interbred with Chinese traders centuries ago. Brunei Darussalam Sultan Ragam Bolkiah whose mother came from the Visayas would journeyd back and forth to visit her. Along the voyage the Sultan known as the "Singing Captain" was the first historical evidence that people from this region are music-oriented. Numerous Chinese families who had been integrated into the locals by reason of marriage kept their Chinese origins. Illustation are the Tan's, Uy's, Yu's, Sy's and countless more who had dominated the economic life later of the Philippines. KZ's Tandingan surname was derived from three Chinese family names fused to one to adopt to the locals. KZ even not Mandarin speaker had navigate with ease to sing Mandarin. Her genetic memory from her ancestors guided her with less than two weeks to prepare. She was even smiling and not so much serious with her Mandarin tutors during the rehearsals.
She is an amazing singer. My favorite KZ performance from Singer 2018 is her heartbreaking interpretation of Say Something. Thank you for the reaction.
