I am a Mutooro from Uganda. My brother studied at Nyakasura. it's one of the best performing school in Uganda. the kilts are called Emicence. I now leave in London I know about the Scottish kilts but to bo honest I had never bothered to find out about the origin of Nyakasura's Uniform.
Thanks Afrimax for the enlightenment on this Uniform.

ITS BETTER and in fact it helps the MEN organs to BREATHE BETTER and be FREE of these SKINNY JEANS CONSTRICTION!! damaging the MENS ORGANS!!-LET THE MEN BREATHE!!
DRESS HISTORY will tell you that ROMANS wore a "kilt" ROMAN SKIRT and it was WORN by MALE SOLDIERS renowned for their BRAVERY AND TREACHERY and by MERCENARIES-all these are what one can call ALPHA MALES in KILT ROMAN "skirts" The ANCIENT MIDDLE & EASTERN PEOPLES wore "skirt/dress" type of CLOTHING!
Its the INDIAN WOMEN who first wore TROUSERS! Because INDIAN WOMEN needed to seat with legs apart to POUND SPICES and DYE FABRIC so that wearing a TROUSER was the BEST WAY to be able to work and STILL BE MORALLY CORRECTLY dressed!
So this idea that TROUSERS are "male" is TOTALLY WRONG!...TROUSERS were worn by INDIAN WOMEN FOR CENTURIES before the BRITISH came to INDIAN colonised them and STOLE THE WOMENS TROUSER and converted it into a EUROPEAN MALE DRESS!!...so when Europeans say TROUSERS are MALE< they are speaking about a EUROPEAN THEFT of INDIAN FEMALE DRESS as the TROUSER was.
INDIAN WOMEN and even MUSLIM AND CHINESE WOMEN still wear TROUSERS with a short or long shirt dress TO THIS DAY!...TROUSERS are in fact FEMALE DRESS ITEM! that was STOLEN by BRITISH MEN who realised it was BETTER than their TIGHT UNDERWEAR type bokases!!....
SO YES MEN can and DID WEAR DRESS & SKIRTS like ARAB MEN and INDIAN MEN still wear LONG DRESSES as "shirt" while their MUSLIM & INDIAN and ORIENTAL WOMEN continue to WEAR TROUSERS as WOMENS CLOTHING!....The school needs to teach PROPER DRESS & FASHION HISTORY to show people SKIRTS were originally ALPHA MALE MILITARY MEN WEAR! and NOT for GIRLS!! or WOMEN!.....so...

Thanks Afrimax for give this school a platform to be known not only for their Kilts but also a good scenery and academics. How I wish also the male teachers have one or two days to wear the Kilt it would be a very good motivator for the boys to identify with. The negative comments on the channel expose the ignorance people have about what we are all wearing having evolved gradually from other places and with lots of history attached. A handful of cultures are still wearing their un altered fabric and very few are still naked, and that's their choice too! Bravo Nyakasula for honouring the schools founder!

“If you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything”.
You know sometimes I weep for my people. It seems like anything white people bring to us we never question, we just accept. Why on earth are we celebrating Scottish Culture in Africa? Do you think for a minute African culture is celebrated in Scotland?
It’s like we are proud to have been colonized. Imagine how insulting this must be for ancestors to witness that after all their sacrifice, instead of celebrating them, we celebrate the slave master.
We should be ashamed of ourselves.

You will stand out if you celebrate and wear your traditional attire. Scotland is proud of its heritage. The school should also be celebrating and standing out in their traditional wear. Look at Ghana everyone knows and recognise the Kente cloth. Ghana is proud of its heritage and we all recognise it. We appreciate its value. Ghana has successfully marketed the Kente cloth as a brand. Scotland and Uganda are worlds apart but it does not surprise me that the foreign culture was brought in by missionaries, organised religion. The wolf in sheep clothing. Also I question who the school was originally servicing when it was first started?

None of the students love that uniform. My wife comes from that region and has had physical contact with some students from the school. No student goes home in the uniform and the school rules require. When they exit the school gate, they change into normal cloths to avoid the humiliation from the people.
Actually there has been strikes, students trying to appeal for the right to wear something comfortable, whoever participated in the strikes was expelled from the school without exception.
That school has got undisputed rules and a set of military disciplinary measures to kill and suppress a child’s feelings and emotions. If you have lived in Africa for some time you might as well realize that the African parenting system allows the parents to make choices for the children regardless of the psychological impacts it will cause on the life of the children. While putting culture into account, we must also examine how popular this dressing code is in the modern Scotland. Most of those weird things have been thrown into the closet and what a shame to see a country far away devoted to some old school stuff from another world, it’s a pity!

NOT UNIQUE just a proper old tradition ECLIPSED by BRITISH THEFT!

This is shocking in many ways for one it is a Scottish tradition so wearing it doesn’t symbolize anything from a Ugandan rather than just wearing a skirt. And second am tired of Ugandans always appropriating things from other culture we need to start having more pride.

If someone doesn’t want his/her children to wear the uniform of Nyakasura, they can send their child to another school.
