It would’ve been badass if he went onstage after Wes stormed off and was like “I may not have stolen his house, but anyone wanna see me steal his band?”
I really want to know the context behind this. Also are post grunge bands doing ok? It seems like everyone storming off stage was huge in like 1999-2004
In an interview after the fact, Chad talked about how Nickelback was on a bill with much heavier bands at that show, and that their tour manager or agent or whoever should've known they wouldn't be well-received.
They were on the wrong promotion and have said many times - they had no idea how their management team accepted to be on a metal promotion when they aren't metal. For as much bs that nickleback gets - they have a huge following that goes to see them for them and do put on a great solid show even if the music isn't to everyones liking. They just don't belong on a metal billing.
I saw Mike Skinner from The Streets storm off stage in an Irish festival 2005, he started by slagging off all the people at the front audience because they were in a gated area, saying they were in the expensive vip area and not proper fans, the area at the front was for people who had bothered to queue really early to get near the stage and wasnt more expensive. He made it clear he couldn't be bothered to be in Ireland then said "Hello Scotland" sarcastically. People then started throwing plastic bottles and he stormed off.
I cannot imagine paying to see a show and then showing my appreciation by throwing bottles or SHOES at the band. This was so entertaining, I think I'll try throwing the mike down and storming off mid-podcast next week.
I'm not fond of the Gallagher brothers, but I feel like in Liam's case storming off was entirely understandable. If he himself recognized the fact that he was not able to perform at his highest capacity, then stopping the show makes complete sense. I only hope that the fans either got a full refund of their ticket, or the concert was postponed until he healed.
He should have just cancelled the show to be honest. I had tickets to tool/mars volta and maynard ended up getting a throat issue and they cancelled and refunded. He was out for 4 stops of the tour. Understandable. Vocalist shouldn't try to push through especially on a tour.
"fan throws shoe" You think fans assault the artists they pay money to see? Half of these were acceptable walk-offs. I really need to hear about the story of Wes' house being stolen though
To be fair that shoe probably wasn't thrown at the band on purpose - was most likely just thrown and so happened to land on stage. I have been to a ton of concerts where full water bottles, glass bottles etc were thrown from crowd into crowd - it got stupid but does happen. Oddly enough it is why country bars had cages built around the band stand as well.
The best part about the Chad Smith thing as soon as he runs off stage the guy playing the keyboard grabs a mic and says “well that’s almost as bad as Free Bird”
I seen Layne Staley get pissed and cuss a guy out and flip him off for throwing a shoe when they were opening at Clash of the Titans in 1991. He didn't cry or pout or storm off or anything, he was just gonna kick the dudes azzwhole
Chad was only messing with the crowd - he came back on laughing. I wish the camera had gone to the house thief so I could see if he was wearing a mask and a hard hat. 😁
Someone wanna tell Aaron Lewis that amplification is a thing? Fucking hell, even MTV Unplugged shows were amplified with mics n shit, it doesn’t make your song more emotional/heartfelt if you choose not to be heard at your own show
