I’m really rooting for her. The album has been on repeat and there’s almost no skips…. This era had sooo much potential to connect but those damn labels always gotta ruin things 😭. I’m hoping a song will breakthrough because there are so many ear worms on the rest of the album. The darker pop really suits her sooo well like Dancings Done is perfection-. A mother is in the making and the next album rollout is so important I hope they don’t f it up.
I feel like this era could have been a mini breakout or a little Future Nostalgia moment for her. Atlantic just didn’t push hard enough in my opinion. Some of the songs here could have been easy wins. Dark pop is her space though. I do think she can establish herself there since it’s being revived what with tiktok charting Bloody Mary again.
@@EljohnMacaranas she also said she had recorded some R&B and Rock songs but obviously they wouldn't have fit on the album. I would love to hear pop/rock from her.
I feel like the problem with H&H and D&D is that Atlantic made Ava release too many singles for H&H we had 6 pre-release singles and 1 after release single and for D&D we got 5 singles and 1 promotional single we already knew half of the album before release
The fact they put out so many singles meant they really didn’t know how to promote album and just threw whatever “sticks” which sadly was none of these did. Max and her team and Atlantic did try with the first two but the last 3 songs to be singles were v random. Weapons didn’t even do a proper video.
Also part of the problem is digital-only tracks, like "My Head & My Heart"...Atlantic should have made a physical deluxe of H&H with bonus tracks like MH&MH, it's not even on the Japanese version, which has 6 bonus tracks, including "Salt"...and agree that many times, releasing too many singles can damage a record's sales...
You have to release some before albums release. If 10songs were releases at The same day fans would be overwhelmed and every song would flop. You have to give at least some sings their time in The spotlight so that they can do well
As an Avatar I think that this album is stronger than H&H. I've always liked Ava's dance pop style songs like 'My Head and my Heart' and this album is a lot of that. I think that the songs 'Ghost' and 'Last Night on Earth' should've been singles over 'One of us' and 'Weapons'. Her record label did a pretty bad job at choosing the singles, there are a lot more songs on the album that could've charted much better. My personal favorite on the album is 'Hold Up(Wait a Minute)'. I also think that just too many singles were released. They should've just released 1-3 over 6
Great to see an Avatar’s opinion. I agree on this being better than H&H! Also agreed that Ghost or LNOE probably should have been singles. I’ve grown on Hold Up (I think Ava mentioned she wanted it to be the next video. I think they should have put Ghost as a single after MDB with a halloween video then dropped the album when it was leaking.
i have mixed feelings with D&D. It certainly is a step up from H&H but it doesn't feel baked enough, and some songs are just too short to even get me into the groove. I wish there's even more variety in the album. Last Night on Earth is definitely a stand out track and they really should turn it into a single with a music video.
In my opinion since MYTP and MDB fail to be hits on charts those songs should remain a STAND ALONE SINGLE and not be a part of the album... I think GHOST or ONE OF US could be a better single with AMAZING videos that captivated fans and none fans. Also her MV is less budgeted imagine JOSEPH KAHN directed GHOST with halloween theme like LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO.
I'm just so happy someone on her team realized that the original cover was a crime against everyone's vision and served up one of the most gorgeous covers i've seen in a long time
@@monsterhanna6691it wasn’t bad, but lacking. Some of the single covers looked better, like the weapons cover that even though it was just a headshot with text it had her hair showing movement with a fierce expression. It had impact. The original cover for diamonds and dancefloors looks more like a filler picture for the cd booklet
The biggest interview Ava booked for D&D was the Kelly Clarkson show which is fine but not a late night slot. She should have been on the Tonight Show 😭
diamonds and dancefloors has everything to be album of the year for me, my only complain is that the songs sometimes feels too short (specially cold as ice), but the albun overall is really great, Ava could be one of the next pop stars if her label and team treats her properly
I think it’s because no one in pop wants to do bridges so they can have shorter runtimes and more streams, it’s been a trend since 2019 because of tiktok
And bridges are so important in Songwriting because they change the tonality and shift the narrative to possibly the point of the song, or subtext when the story brings it home, or to the original theme… all before bringing it back for the final chorus. Our ears are waiting for that.
I really love the album. Her old team as well as her label (Atlantic) did a bad job at promoting her. Get outta my heart, the title track, Ghost, Dancings Done, Cold as Ice are my favorite tracks from the Album.
It saddens me so much. I waited for the album and it’s been on repeat. She’s got what’s missing from music at the moment and it’s breaking my heart to see it but getting recognition. We’re really going to look back and be sad at what could of been.
Ava is such a great artist, but this era was so messy with all the leaks, the delay and half of the album being released before the release date. Also we still don't have all the visualizers which doesn't really make sense to me. At least we are getting a deluxe version and Charli XCX can be on it.
Ava Max has been my favorite singer since 2019/2020. I feel like she deserves more credit for her vocals because she’s an amazing singer. Also did anyone else hear the whistle note in One of Us?
I feel like she doesn’t even need to really push boundaries so much as tap into the zeitgeist. Sadly, that is more of a luck and timing methodology. Main pop girl status is fleeting tbh but I’d love to see her have a big era.
Dancings Done is certainly her best song to date. I lowkey wanted the entire album to sound like that, but Maybe You're The Problem is definitely number two. Great work from her!
Dancing's Done definitely feels like an epilogue and probably the last track to be recorded. She's said next album will sound like that and I think that's a great jumping point. D&D is a jump over H&H for sure!
How do we feel about Ava Max, her career, and Diamonds and Dancefloors? Let me know! 💎❤️(Edit: Noticed I put Republic for Olivia when she’s on Interscope and Atlantic for Dua when she’s on Warner [proper, Atlantic is part of Warner])
I Feel Ava Max will at least have 3+ more hits in her career. Diamonds & Dancefloors is a step in the right direction and could possibly have another hit.
Diamonds & Dancefloors is literally the perfect pop album just pure pop and top notch production and the album cover snatched my wig it’s always the international territory that Ava is more successful the USA is just tasteless.
As a long-time Avatar, it’s criminal that Sleepwalker wasn’t a single, especially while Weapons was. And it’s also the only song that didn’t get a teaser until the day before D&D got released. It’s her best song to date (AND HER FAVORITE FROM THE ALBUM!) and should have been treated as such. Overall, its an amazing album that has so much potential to make her one of the biggest names right now, but Atlantic dropped the ball in terms of promoting it. It won’t stop me from playing the album on repeat, or from trying to share it on any platform I can, it’s just frustrating that it’s not getting nearly enough attention.
Idk I still wasn't hinged with this record. Idk why I guess it's because I don't hear her as a person in her songs. I could easily see her doing a euro-hyperpop sound. I think that could suit her avant-dance thing she's going for, especially since she claimed last year that this record's sound would be "on crack."
“On crack” isn’t quite right. I do agree in that I’d love more personality but then again I also recognize it’s hard to do that through dance music and how it’s structured. Not to bring up Gaga but Gaga r had a handle on humanizing herself through visuals, interviews, and her vocals. Max’s vocals are technically perfect but they lack an emotive quality Gaga and Dua have.
And yet one thing that nobody tends to keep in mind is that Ava is still a fairly new artist. Yes, she was releasing music WAY before SBP and just released her second album, but that's the key word here; SECOND. Why are we all acting as if she's a one-hit wonder or that she's already falling in her career? She's still fairly new! Don't judge the rest of her career when she's barely getting started.
IDK 5 years is a long time in the pop world compared to other genres. Lorde took 4 year breaks between albums which for Melo was wonderful critically but ultimately did harm her commercial potential. Green Light and Perfect Places came nearly 4 years after Royals and Team, Solar Power totally tanked.
@@EljohnMacaranas okay I’m giving you two examples of the 80s and 70s and also rock pop instead of pop but here it goes that maybe you are overreacting if it’s not now it’s never. Bon Jovi they didn’t really took off till their third album Slippery when wet. Yes Runaway was a huge hit but it was the only hit in their first album, their second album was almost a failure but with Slippery when wet they finally made it. Aerosmith their first album a failure almost for the company to regret giving them a chance the second did much better and by the third it’s when they finally took of. Ava Max she still has a third chance
If I was not on vacation, I would e gone to see Ava at that sams club concert since I don’t live far from there. This album proves to me that I was right in keeping an eye on Ava. Her last album felt so lost but now she has some idea of where to go. I can’t wait for her to experiment because I know she has more potential than she is showing us.
I remember how obsessed I was with Heaven&Hell and how upset I was that such a good record didn’t seem to become the next big thing, but eventually I got a bit “tired” of just a concept album. Now, waiting for D&D felt like a gift, so many exciting snippets and I’m not mad at the first 3 singles…but imagine what would’ve happened with Ghost, Hold up (wait a minute), Cold as ice etc. so many songs with single material that just needed a killer video, more promotion and a bridge. For me, this is easily aoty and her best body of work and she was so close to hitting the perfect formula, but nevertheless i think it’s perfect but she needs the HELP from the outside, like put my girl on the screen on interviews on lives on events make me get her understand her reason with her…i need to know my bitchhhh as a die hard avatar❤
I think concept albums are so... tired especially if the label or artist won't commit to it. D&D is unpretentious pop which we do need more of today. I do agree the singles could have been more strategic but truly her team dropped the ball all around in terms of getting us to see her as more than a bop vessel. I think the human element of getting to know her was missing and while I HATE Scooter I do think he and his team will finally do that for her.
"Diamonds & Dancefloors" is such a great album. I can't stop listening to it. My favorite songs from D&D are... Million Dollar Baby, Turn Off The Lights, Maybe You're The Problem, Dancing's Done and Diamonds & Dancefloors. I love this album so much!
PERIOD. YOU RE SO RIGHT!!!! i love ava and her whole discography She s so underrated and very sabotaged It really is a tragedy, but i hope that the world will give her the recognition that she deserves 1. Best production in pop music 2. Purest pop i ve heard since about last night by Mabel (another tragedy, maybe a bigger one!) P.S. my fave track is get out of my heart:) 🫶best song from D&D in my opinion
I feel like honestly it’s kinda a shame. We don’t have a pop girl who’s only sort of thing is dance pop bar Dua who’s on a temporary hiatus. Get Out of My Heart should have been a smash single.
I’ve been a fan since I heard Sweet and Psycho. And I wasn’t completely obsessed. I do have a signed copy of HNH but the album did lack at some parts but it did have some good tracks imo. DND isn’t sonically unique nor the lyrics are super complex but I do enjoy the “dancing through the pain” vibe it has and it’s just a lot of fun pop songs that aren’t too deep. I didn’t hear the leak cause I wanted to wait but I agree. She’s been through it. The roll out could’ve been better for the album
The rollout honestly has to be one of the worst in recent memory I've seen for a pop star. Then again, way back when before streaming album leaks happened all the time but it was so much easier to ignore them and salvage an era. I wish her all the best on the rest of this era and AM3.
YES! I really wanted a killer bridge on One Of Us, like belted bridge with the beat continuing and then a killer climax And Turn Off The Lights and D&D deserved a bridge as well. That may be my only issue. Short songs (which automatically means no bridges)
I think short songs are the worst trend to happen to pop in quite a while like get your streams and airplay but lose the heart and soul of the craft I guess
@@EljohnMacaranas yeah, that's why i love Taylor's song structure, even Katy's and Ariana's but Taylor's bridges... iconic A lot of D&D songs screamed for a bridge and Ava was like : "nah ur gonna get a post chorus, breakdown, pause or just the song will end after 2nd chorus" 💀💀
@@filipmarinkovic6281 I thought I was the only one who found some songs short. It’s annoying too because when the song was just getting good, it just abruptly end with no bridge. The title track for example needed a bridge. I was jamming to the drop after the second chorus and then it ended.
I feel like (hot take) Dua just really had a better team/marketing and advantages like a father who was in the industry and taught her how to negotiate with labels. Ava didn’t have that. Not to dismiss Dua who I know worked v hard after ppl roasted her dancing and improved and served hard on Future Nostalgia.
I am new fan of her and her new album is absolutely magnificent. bops most of the songs. Nice beats, catchy lyrics, great vibes. This is exactly how a pop album can sound like.
@@EljohnMacaranas The label expected Maybe You're the Problem to be a sleeper hit like K&Q but nothing happened, so after that single everything was a disaster.
I think her main problem until now was the fact that most of her releases often overlapped with other huge artists (Dua Lipa, Harry Styles, The Weeknd, etc). I think her label learned from their mistakes with this new album, they chose the perfect timing.
I feel like with how much music gets dropped these days, there’s never a really perfect time. Taylor Swift kinda dropped the Midnights release date out of the blue which more or less is a death sentence for anyone dropping at that time.
i met her a couple days ago. she was the sweetest human being you couldn’t imagine! i hope people see past the terrible, horrific promotional failures that her team put her through and just stream every single bop from this album. she deserves MORE.
I love the new album so so much! Honestly I love Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Ariana Grande so much but I do skip their songs in the playlists. But for Ava Max, I don't skip any of her songs. She is my only no-skip singer! Only Ava can do that!
I do believe that this record is much more cohesive than H&H. There are really no skips for me here, I can play it from top to bottom and dance to and sing to everything. Now what I’ve noticed is that this is not really the sound that the US market really likes and also baby can be great but she has awful luck
There are a few tracks on here that with maybe some production tweaks or a feature could do pretty well. It’s definitely a stronger album than H&H. I do wish her more luck. I was not a fan but upon hearing what happened and remembering my fave Charli’s struggles r did empathize.
Love your picks! Thanks! I think my only issue with the album is the lack of bridges on songs that need just a little more meat but it’s honestly a huge improvement over her older material.
@@EljohnMacaranas Yeah I got you! Some of the songs seems short and kinda rush to chorus and then end so soon. But generally she did a good job. And we will see more improvements in future's albums.
Actually she released 6 singles ☝️🤓. Maybe You’re The Problem, Million Dollar Baby, Dancings Done, Weapons, One Of Us, and Cold As Ice Edit: srry i had to do this 😭 but tbh i didnt even know Cold As Ice was a single cause it released 3 days before the album did
Oh that song needed a bridge even if it’s just a vocalization or mini variation of the chorus, like maybe a little couplet about how the dancefloor is more home than home itself then BAM final chorus to send us into the stratosphere
As a HUGE avatar i think she is soo underrated! Ive been a fan kf hers since she released so am i and i recently went to the diamonds and dancefloors tour. I think both of her albums are deeply underrated and she deserves better!
i wish that labels/artists/whoever's in charge would start putting their faith in longer songs more... i really think a number the tracks on this album could have benefited from being four or five minutes instead of two :(. artists like Jessie Ware and Kylie Minogue have been releasing single edits and extended mixes of their songs and i think that has been really effective in allowing fans and radios to pick and chose whether they want to enjoy a shorter or longer version of their songs. wish Ava and her team would take notes from them.
Agreed, some of the tracks feel like their missing an extra verse or breakdown, I hate the trend of shorter songs to artificially drive up streams so much.
The biggest problem with Ava Max's music is that she relied too much on using samples without actually creatively highlight them. The formula is usually a sample + overly similar upbeat electropop production, which to many fans of the OG samples, felt like an insult. The aesthetics of her videography seem to lack of creativity too. As a casual listener, i felt like her music sounds pretty much the same. U can easily one part of one sang right next to one part of another and it still matches
Right there with you Man I love Ava she is a dance pop queen for sure but she has slot to prove still as an artist. I love D&D it's full of bops I'm hoping she works with even more producers without cirkut I know she has to work with him some but at least for the next album he can help write but let someone else produce a couple songs without him producing cause sticking a similar pop sound to much can make it come off like your playing it to safe but some artists are limited with what they can begin with early in their careers. It's an amazing step forward for sure she said that one of us was suppose to be a ballad. She did the Zach zang show it's really good she talks about the leak and why she isn't so personal but she's slowly opening up to that.
I really do like your point about her finding other producers to work with. Cirkut is wonderful but likely the reason why to some this album feels too cohesive to the point it feels one note. I’m glad though Ava is opening up, doing interviews, and reminding us about the person behind the music. 💎
I have loved her ever since kings and queens what is like 3 years ago it’s sad ever since Sweet but Psycho she’s been trying to find different things to get her songs on charts
I just don't understand what Ava Max us waiting for to release a music video for Dancing's Done. She teased us so much and that song is the song of the year so far.
I agree with everything you said here. I first heard of her when she collabed with Alan Walker on a song called "Alone." I followed her for a little bit but as you said, most of her songs were samples. It truly felt like she was singing parody's of other artist's songs and once I realized how often she relied on that to make a hit, I stopped paying attention. I think she also was heavily inspired by Lady Gaga on the way she presents her look. At least early on. I think she would've started with "Diamonds and Dance floors" or maybe put it out right after her break out single "Psycho" she would've gained a lot more recognition for the album. I hope she keeps pushing and does great things. Thank you for the video. I was sitting here this morning and one of her songs hit my playlist and I said, "What happened to her?"
Honestly, I sympathize with her and think she genuinely has a good voice and an attitude but like she really needs to at some point like show off her unique personality and perspective and let go of the samples.
I personally hope she didn't take the wrong lessons from D&D failing, it was more of a label and atmospheric misprint. I'd hate for her next record to just be a return to messy sampling.
Ava deserves so much better… Diamonds and Dancefloors is legit one of my favorite albums of all time at this point, it has such good replay value for me❤️ I’m hoping she keeps making dark electropop cause the sound suits her WAY better than the bubblegum pop of H&H
i really love D&D and it just reasonates with how i’m feeling. I feel like it’s the perfect album to play at a gay club or something lol but What i miss is the diversity of the songs, it’s not that they all sound the same, but there’s something about catchy songs that can be overwhelming when all played together where it all just turns to sound and beat. Finally, i’d wish to see a more personal side of her in her next album and not a « it’s pop so soulless » because that’s what imo people like most about an artist, its signature. ps: it’s way better than heaven and hell imo and it still shows her evolution as an artist.
I think album cohesion has become an enemy to pop itself. Everyone’s trying so hard to curate and make these critical darling records that they don’y really expand their horizons anymore which sucks. I do also agree with the personal stuff. I don’t need Ava to shove a traumatic story into a song but a song that really spells out her hopes or genuine fears would be great (along with visuals to help sell the story.) But honestly just improving a bunch from H&H which felt like a grabbag of hits without a proper story other than here’s 2 EPs i stitched together is a win for me!
The single rollout for both her albums is just a mess. I’m glad she’s finding new management because her team definitely failed her. D&D is ok. A lot of songs for me are criminally too short because they have no bridge and end before they can properly conclude. Also there aren’t many standout tracks compared to H&H.
*puts tinfoil hat on* What if her old team did it on purpose because she was signing with Scooter Braun? *tinfoil hat off* Thank god she did, even before the leaks, they didn’t do a good job of booking her interviews or press tour things
About Ava Max, what I always found strange is that she releases hits after hits but each time it's like she's back to the start, like her fandom doesn't grow. Despite having 30M listeners regularly listening to her multiple hits, she never has an instant success when she releases something, it's always slow because her listeners are not really following her for some reasons.
It's the case of being liked but not loved by everywhere which weirdly is the whole point of being a pop star. I feel like Ava would have thrived in the times where stan culture wasn't a thing but nowadays to really build on success and elevate yourself you need a consistent fan base to carry your songs. I recall modern stan culture as we know it starting around the time of JLo and Mariah (there was a hilarious old video of two fans from a long time ago). But when Gaga had her Little Monsters nickname go mainstream in the 2010s and Beyonce had BeyHive and so on and so forth (Swifties and BTS' ARMY arguably being the current largest and active everywhere), it really did change. It's a paradox.
its because the whole damm album gets thrown out without good pre single choices and no shows to tease it on, she could have teased on her socials, but its radio silent 99% of the time except random pics that don't have to do with any music lol. she has a very bad team behind her.
Maybe You're The Problem not being a hit really was a shame. It was like the perfect mix between disco-pop revival and pop-punk revival. So sad it wasn't a smash
For shallow people, yeah, it hurts not being 1# in the charts. If were talking about art thou, that's irrelevant. Good music was made and registered, mission acomplished. Rankings are only a matter for big companies to make even more money while parasiting the artists, and for insecure fans that project their insecurities in the success of others (my life isn't walking, but the people I'm fan are number 1, so it's like a victory to me). Plus, company choosen the wrong tracks to work on, Last Night on Earth is a superb song and doesn't even got a proper MV.
You just had to throw in the Sam’s Club concert. I was probably the one that stood out the most in that picture as I was wearing that bright orange shirt. Thanks a lot! 😂
I love Ava Max. The album is solid but not all tracks are hit single quality. But some standouts. I actually don't dig Weapons... very generic. I just hope Atlantic doesn't give up on her like labels do. She deserves superstardom. She also needs collaborations. She has so much potential. She's very talented. Thanks for your video!
Weapons genuinely felt very TikTok-y which is probably why it was pushed. Ghost should have been a single or something. Collaborations is a huge point and why Scooter could be a great asset. I did not start out a fan of Ava but upon D&D release and looking at unforced mistakes made by label/management do wish her the very best.
@@EljohnMacaranas I wonder, is are Ava and Circuit still together? If not, how will this affect her mudic production going forward? Didn't Circuit help her get a record deal?
ava max is the next gaga she will make a huge comeback. i loved all her songs she has songs from the 90s that are all banggaz she needs more love she is a real singer
Ava Max's debut album has been delayed after a SMASH WW HITS " SBP " imagined if it was released after the single and more PROMOTION and RECORD LABEL support.. i remember Ava, Doja and Megan Thee both starting there career and yet DOJA got popularity through " SAY SO " and then MEGAN THEE with SAVAGE ft. Beyonce, and these girls were PERFORM on MUSIC AWARDS but Ava Max left behind. I think Ava Max should find a new Label since it's her 2nd album delayed!!! Hopefully SCOUTER BRAUN PROJECTS and NEW MAGANER could help Ava Max coz she really deserved it. Also AVA MAX need collaboration maybe ARIANA GRANDE, NICKI MINAJ, JUSTIN B or Label mate CARDI B.
The collaborations you bring up could honestly be a huge help. Ava’s sorta been an island. I still believe a key moment her label fudged was following up SBP. Had it been another song (even Kings and Queens which I wasn’t big on), she would have dropped the album sooner and retained the cultural clout. I feel like Atlantic could still be a great label, but her team and management before really were to blame. Atlantic should have made sure physicals were NOT shipped out ahead of time.
Gods.. Ava deserves so much better, the music industry has been terrible to her and the states is killing her! She’s an amazing artist and my idol. She’s a strong person and doesn’t give up and thats what I love about her!
To be fair, the states is the hardest market to crack even for artists from them (Ava's a homegrown American act). I feel like when an international artist does it, it's like a pinnacle in their career, proof they're really on top of the world.
4:11 Yeah, There Was A Bunch Of Albums That Year Including: -folklore + evermore - Taylor Swift -Sour - Olivia Rodrigo (Also As Mentioned, Her Record Breaking Debut) -Happier Than Ever - Billie Eilish -Future Nostalgia - Dua Lipa -Chromatica - Lady Gaga -= - Ed Sheeran -And Much More…
i think she could have a little Janet/ Control era with her 3rd album. Ava's first 2 albums were solid and had many hits but the albums themselves didn't get too much attention. She should come back reinvented on her 3rd project just like Janet did and surprise the world yk show the world she isn't just another white basic pop girl/lady gaga clone. faves: last night on earth, get outta my heart, sleepwalker, d&d. i love the dark pop sm, she could take over what Dua Lipa was originally doing with her Debut album
Honestly I do think she has the drive to bloom into a bigger star especially since she does fill a space Dua doesn't (and while they aren't direct label mates, Warner and Atlantic are run by the same company)
I´m rooting for her, many of her songs are just bops. I just really hope that she´ll ever write with Andreas Haukeland / TIX again, the main songwriter behind Sweet but Psycho. I think it could help her with creating some new sounds. (Also it´s because I love TIX ever since the 2021 ESC)
@@EljohnMacaranas pretty sure. If I remember it correctly from like two years ago, they were supposed to collab a lot more but then the pandemic happened and he wasn’t able to fly to LA anymore or something. Also, there is a video somewhere on UA-cam where they sing Sweet but Psycho together at a fan event.
I blame them dumping it in January with little promo then spreading out the visualizers. They should have had every track’s little visualizer come out when the album dropped to maximize streams and see which single to push next via radio.
She's critically underrated yet also extremely popular on the charts. It's a confusing situation for sure. Super popular but also not? It's a shame to see she was forced to doom herself by record labels (if I'm understanding the video correctly). I have been following her since Sweet but Psycho and she hasn't quite peaked as high since then, but also has???
The labels have unrealistic expectations for her but underinvest in her projects or fail to capitalize off her success. She slayed today at the Met Gala and I’m certain her new team will help her reach the heights she deserves. I’m not saying charts are everything, but unfortunately they dictate the perception of success and the freedoms artists we love have.
She says that the delay was due to her not being ready. The release was coming closer, and she still had finishing touches. Therefore her label let her delay
Ooop. That’s unfortunate then, it seemed like label fuckery considering they love to delay records to secure a hit right before. The fact vinyls went out with unfinished versions of the songs is even worse now.
Even with the right singles, i don’t think she’ll ever be as big as her fandom wants. To the general public, she’s just the girl that samples old songs. Its kinda bad when you’re known more for sampling other songs, or wherever the correct term is, than crafting your own sound and identity. I think she’s talented but her marketing and image is just a copycat of the late 2000s-early 2010s pop girlies. Like how does she expect to compete with Ariana, Dua, Taylor, etc.?
I’ll be honest. You can tell that her label didn’t really put in the time & effort on her first project. You hear it in the mixing & the production. This new album diamonds and dance floors is an amazing album there isn’t really any skips on this album. Maybe 1 or 2 but not really. The singles are crazy & it made me a fan. I definitely see her taking off in the next few years after this one. Everything has its time. Now it’s hers. Same with Dua Lipa. She dropped her records back in 2017 and she’s just now getting those records popular and gaining momentum
I think the key difference is that Dua branched out and worked with multiple different strong producers to do collabs in between albums, no shade to Tiesto but Dua won a Grammy for Electricity and did pretty well on the charts with One Kiss. Those two collabs along with DSN being promoted amazingly and Future Nostalgia being a critical smash with good promo sorta made Dua’s star rise. D&D if promoted well could have been her Future Nostalgia moment. Ava disappears in between albums, I felt like the momentum she had after Kings and Queens was r wasted.
@@EljohnMacaranas I agree with you on a lot of this. I wish they did promo for Ava better. Even her visualizers for ghost was trash. Like I felt like she might have went over budget or something and couldn’t do a proper video right now. However personally I’m looking at D&D as her debut album personally lol. Her first one I wish we could label as a mixtape/LP lol.
I’m really rooting for her. The album has been on repeat and there’s almost no skips…. This era had sooo much potential to connect but those damn labels always gotta ruin things 😭. @@EljohnMacaranas Ava said that she sees Dancings Done as the new sound for her next album.
Oh we’re winning on AM3 then
Love your profile pic
You have to give at least some sings their time in The spotlight so that they can do well
5 singles??? D&D has already 2 official singles YOUR THE PROBLEM AND MILLION DOLLAR BABY...
Or, here's a thought, Ava released what SHE wanted to release that she felt fit the theme of the album. 🤨
I feel anyone could managa Ava's career better than her own team, cuz this is really insane how badly the single picks were.
Her team having Ghost right there and not dropping it earlier when it was the clear favorite based on Spotify data...
@@EljohnMacaranas right 😭
Na honestly Ghost is my probably my favourite song now and been the biggest success to her current album
Even I could manage her career much better lol 😂 ❤ proud Avatar here
Her song Weapons deserved so much to be a single
diamonds and dancefloors IS SO GOOD.
She had me gagged, I’m acc r mad Atlantic more or less doomed this record
@@saintperth3978 Ooooo that's sound very cool
I'm just so happy someone on her team realized that the original cover was a crime against everyone's vision and served up one of the most gorgeous covers i've seen in a long time
Agreed. That had to be one of the worst covers I’ve seen for an album, the new one is perfect! It’s giving Planet Her’s cousin.
It wasn't that bad, you people are just dramatic. 🙄
It's not even that bad...
@@monsterhanna6691 i'm one her biggest fan but I think it was bad 🥶
@@monsterhanna6691it wasn’t bad, but lacking. Some of the single covers looked better, like the weapons cover that even though it was just a headshot with text it had her hair showing movement with a fierce expression. It had impact. The original cover for diamonds and dancefloors looks more like a filler picture for the cd booklet
I'm shocked by how no one has been really been giving her the proper promotions when she seems so talented
The biggest interview Ava booked for D&D was the Kelly Clarkson show which is fine but not a late night slot. She should have been on the Tonight Show 😭
@@EljohnMacaranas Not even RCA screws over their artists that badly 😭
Completely agree, I think she’s awesome. I actually flew up to Hershey Pennsylvania to watch her open for Maroon 5. I was there for her, not them.
diamonds and dancefloors has everything to be album of the year for me, my only complain is that the songs sometimes feels too short (specially cold as ice), but the albun overall is really great, Ava could be one of the next pop stars if her label and team treats her properly
I think it’s because no one in pop wants to do bridges so they can have shorter runtimes and more streams, it’s been a trend since 2019 because of tiktok
@@EljohnMacaranas yes, and its annoying to me, i kinda miss the 4 minutes songs
Yea I do agree with this tbh quite true
And bridges are so important in Songwriting because they change the tonality and shift the narrative to possibly the point of the song, or subtext when the story brings it home, or to the original theme… all before bringing it back for the final chorus. Our ears are waiting for that.
I really love the album. Her old team as well as her label (Atlantic) did a bad job at promoting her. Get outta my heart, the title track, Ghost, Dancings Done, Cold as Ice are my favorite tracks from the Album.
I feel like Atlantic really just dropped the ball all around then gave up, which is a shame! Love your picks!
For real, also the improvement from cover art alone is convincing to me that this switch is gonna bring her higher. I'm excited to see her grow
I'm rooting for her. She deserves to be big
She and Charli are in my umbrella of pop girls who definitely should be megastars
Generic pop, do we need more of the same?
@@EljohnMacaranas love them both and saw them both live at least once 🥹🤧❤️😭
It saddens me so much. I waited for the album and it’s been on repeat. She’s got what’s missing from music at the moment and it’s breaking my heart to see it but getting recognition. We’re really going to look back and be sad at what could of been.
Success nowadays is catering to the algorithm and really good timing.
Ava is such a great artist, but this era was so messy with all the leaks, the delay and half of the album being released before the release date. Also we still don't have all the visualizers which doesn't really make sense to me. At least we are getting a deluxe version and Charli XCX can be on it.
She SHOULD be! I feel like they could have a small smash with it! It’d be amazing!
Charlis on it????????
Ava Max has been my favorite singer since 2019/2020. I feel like she deserves more credit for her vocals because she’s an amazing singer. Also did anyone else hear the whistle note in One of Us?
I did! She has such a technically brilliant voice like lots of talent that I feel sometimes the production drowns out
@@EljohnMacaranas yeah I agree the whistle note is a little hard to hear at first listen but once you hear it it’s like wow
Her record label just keeps messing up. No promo, bad release dates… It’s infuriating.
Don't forget sending out the record out of the blue randomly to fans!
Their did this bad even to Christina Aguilera 😢 so I'm not surprised
I LOVE Ava don’t get me wrong but she doesn’t push boundaries enough to be a main pop girl. I hope she can do it soon.
I feel like she doesn’t even need to really push boundaries so much as tap into the zeitgeist. Sadly, that is more of a luck and timing methodology. Main pop girl status is fleeting tbh but I’d love to see her have a big era.
Love how you mentioned the roblox event, truly a moment in history
Listen, it was a cultural reset. Queen Ava was pioneering the Metaverse concert landscape, sadly the iPad babies wanted to push her off the cliff 😭
@@EljohnMacaranas without the iPad babies we would have never remembered H&H the way we remember it now
Dancings Done is certainly her best song to date.
Ava is so underrated.I hope D&D becomes a well-known album because it deserves it
Million dollar baby should’ve been a hit!!! IDCCCC
I blame it on how crowded that time period was like 2022 was genuinely a competitive year even moreso than 2021 tbh
Diamonds & Dancefloors is literally the perfect pop album just pure pop and top notch production and the album cover snatched my wig it’s always the international territory that Ava is more successful the USA is just tasteless.
That profile pic had me gagged 😭
i agree with u joshua completely! its such a mf fire album. breaks my heart its not #1 worldwide
Agreed, Sleepwalker is in my top 3 from her all-time career. Stunned it was not released.
@@EljohnMacaranas Ava isn't them; they're all completely different artists.
I agree wholeheartedly. I’m seeing her in concert in 2 weeks
Aaaah! Have fun! I saw her at a small show recently and her vocals were amazing! ❤️
Agreed. Also, it’s a shame you missed it! I heard she did 12 songs! Insane for a random concert at a wholesale club
@@EljohnMacaranas I know! You'd think that maybe she would do like three songs at most.
I feel like Maybe You’re the Problem doesn’t get the love it deserves like it’s such a solid single choice. Really mad it didn’t do well in America
PERIOD. YOU RE SO RIGHT!!!! i love ava and her whole discography
She s so underrated and very sabotaged
It really is a tragedy, but i hope that the world will give her the recognition that she deserves
1. Best production in pop music
2. Purest pop i ve heard since about last night by Mabel (another tragedy, maybe a bigger one!)
P.S. my fave track is get out of my heart:) 🫶best song from D&D in my opinion
I feel like honestly it’s kinda a shame. We don’t have a pop girl who’s only sort of thing is dance pop bar Dua who’s on a temporary hiatus. Get Out of My Heart should have been a smash single.

Maybe Katy will come back this year😭 we missing our mum (cause i m a KatyCat)
YES! I really wanted a killer bridge on One Of Us, like belted bridge with the beat continuing and then a killer climax
And Turn Off The Lights and D&D deserved a bridge as well.
That may be my only issue. Short songs (which automatically means no bridges)
I think short songs are the worst trend to happen to pop in quite a while like get your streams and airplay but lose the heart and soul of the craft I guess
@@EljohnMacaranas yeah, that's why i love Taylor's song structure, even Katy's and Ariana's but Taylor's bridges... iconic
A lot of D&D songs screamed for a bridge and Ava was like : "nah ur gonna get a post chorus, breakdown, pause or just the song will end after 2nd chorus" 💀💀
@@filipmarinkovic6281 I thought I was the only one who found some songs short. It’s annoying too because when the song was just getting good, it just abruptly end with no bridge. The title track for example needed a bridge. I was jamming to the drop after the second chorus and then it ended.
I love Diamonds and Dancefloor and Ava Max. It’s so sad that people don’t get her :/. Like she is close to Dua in my opinion yea
@@EljohnMacaranas yeah I definitely think Dua has made better decisions than Ava Max.
I am new fan of her and her new album is absolutely magnificent. bops most of the songs. Nice beats, catchy lyrics, great vibes.
This is exactly how a pop album can sound like.
Ava Max's problem centers on 2 things: Too many singles before the album without concentrating on one, and the leaking of the entire album.
Choosing to drop 3 singles in a span of like 2 months was insane… the album leaking definitely didn’t help with first week streams or sales either
@@EljohnMacaranas By "perfect timing" I meant, a time where no big artists actually came back. But you're right.

I love the new album so so much! Honestly I love Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Ariana Grande so much but I do skip their songs in the playlists. But for Ava Max, I don't skip any of her songs. She is my only no-skip singer! Only Ava can do that!

D&D is such a good album I hope if she releases another single from it, it will be a huge hit bc this album needs to get out there
She needs to push Ghost or Get Out of My Heart with a video and some TV performances before the end of Spring pls

Omg we share the same opinion with Diamonds and Dancefloors (the track), I love it but it's too short, defo needed a bridge
Oh that song needed a bridge even if it’s just a vocalization or mini variation of the chorus, like maybe a little couplet about how the dancefloor is more home than home itself then BAM final chorus to send us into the stratosphere
Ava Max is awesome and I hate the fact she isn't bigger! "Million Dollar Baby" is such a good song!

Last Night On Earth is FAR from her best.
i wish that labels/artists/whoever's in charge would start putting their faith in longer songs more... i really think a number the tracks on this album could have benefited from being four or five minutes instead of two :(.
artists like Jessie Ware and Kylie Minogue have been releasing single edits and extended mixes of their songs and i think that has been really effective in allowing fans and radios to pick and chose whether they want to enjoy a shorter or longer version of their songs. wish Ava and her team would take notes from them.
Agreed, some of the tracks feel like their missing an extra verse or breakdown, I hate the trend of shorter songs to artificially drive up streams so much.
sleepwalker is such an insanely good track, probably one of my fav pop songs of all time
Needed a music video
I really like this New Album as well
I still love Everytime I Cry though haha
That song was honestly pretty cute! It almost would have fit this record if it weren’t so tough sounding like it’s not silky if that makes sense
Valid criticisms tbh!
she danced Million dollar baby herself for just dance 2023 which was good bc thats the only way i knew she was even releasing new songs lol

Get Out of My Heart came on at a club I went to the other night and it was truly a moment to live in
Right there with you Man I love Ava she is a dance pop queen for sure but she has slot to prove still as an artist.
in conclusion, she deserves better
Oh for sure, I’m actually sad Atlantic can’t make it work better here in the states

I just don't understand what Ava Max us waiting for to release a music video for Dancing's Done.
She teased us so much and that song is the song of the year so far.
I know the visualizer was released but I don't count it as a music video so much as a fun little visual from the photoshoot.
I love her new record, zero skips for me!
I see this comment everywhere
Im rooting for her. I really enjoy her songs
I feel like it’s the perfect album to play at a gay club or something lol but
What i miss is the diversity of the songs, it’s not that they all sound the same, but
there’s something about catchy songs that can be overwhelming when all played together where it all just turns to sound and beat.
I don’t need Ava to shove a traumatic story into a song but a song that really spells out her hopes or genuine fears would be great (along with visuals to help sell the story.)
But honestly just improving a bunch from H&H which felt like a grabbag of hits without a proper story other than here’s 2 EPs i stitched together is a win for me!
Always bringing the tea 💙
We always have to drag Atlantic just because they do everyone so dirty 😭
H&H had 3-4 songs I loved. D&D had about 12 it’s ashame she didn’t have any promotion
Agreed, I only had 2 tracks that I don’t revisit at all. I think she can draw out one last big single push!
@@EljohnMacaranas needs to be the last night on earth
Get Out of my Heart is a standout for me too. It feels like a smash hit
It needs to be a single PLS AVA!
@@EljohnMacaranas Very interesting and true.
its because the whole damm album gets thrown out without good pre single choices and no shows to tease it on, she could have teased on her socials, but its radio silent 99% of the time except random pics that don't have to do with any music lol. she has a very bad team behind her.
@@m.s2829 she already teased me a lot with her Dancing's done visualizer 🫠💦🥵🤣
Maybe You're The Problem not being a hit really was a shame. It was like the perfect mix between disco-pop revival and pop-punk revival. So sad it wasn't a smash
It should have displaced As It Was or ridden on its coattails
subscribed and turned on the bell notification. Something about intelligent musings on pop music just gets me
Thank u sm! ❤️😭
have to take issue with the heaven and hell rating--its a near perfect pop album for me
For shallow people, yeah, it hurts not being 1# in the charts.
You were there to witness HERSTORY ♥️
Tbh Gaga’s just hard to top, like I could never see Ava launching an Oscar-nominated acting career or opening the Olympics.
ghost should’ve def been a single
Halloween music video and release 😭
Ava Max is a future icon! 🙌🏻❤
Genuinely think with the right album push she can be a Cascada figure for Gen Z
I've noticed one thing that, her singles or collabs thrive better than her albums.
It’s probably because her old team wasn’t involved 😂
4:11 Yeah, There Was A Bunch Of Albums That Year
Including:
-folklore + evermore - Taylor Swift
-Sour - Olivia Rodrigo (Also As Mentioned, Her Record Breaking Debut)
-Happier Than Ever - Billie Eilish
-Future Nostalgia - Dua Lipa
-Chromatica - Lady Gaga
-= - Ed Sheeran
-And Much More…
I got the new album on vinyl, despatched from France , just love it, and I loved the first album too.
Did it have the new cover?! I hope they send out sleeves for it to ppl who want it!
1:48 Ummm. Why is the cover for Heaven & Hell upside down?
I got to meet her personally. I’m a huge fan. She’s so talented and I’m rooting for her!!!
Awwww! I’m hoping she brings back some energy to pop!
i think she could have a little Janet/ Control era with her 3rd album.
Oh wow, she hasn't worked with him since then? They should link up!
Diamonds and Dancefloors was good but it really just came and went
I blame them dumping it in January with little promo then spreading out the visualizers. They should have had every track’s little visualizer come out when the album dropped to maximize streams and see which single to push next via radio.
Her New Song "My Oh My" Out Now!!
I heard! It’s solid! Still wishing for her dark pop era though
@@EljohnMacaranas i personally think she was told to say that though, cause the vinyl sound identical to the released album. 🧐
That’s suspicious, I recall on the Crash vinyl for Charli, used to know me was using the demo version 💀
Ava being pushed into the Lava pit seems a little like foreshadowing to me 🤔
PLS (the Roblox concert was such a meme)
