Wes Clayborn also hit 256 on the same day Tom hit 256 and 273, less of a significant lift in itself, but for a guy who is not well known and is also significantly shorter than guys like Brian, Tom and Thor, I thought it was an incredible lift. He is still officially the second strongest stone lifter ever, and Tom's 286 putting him 11.7% further ahead than Wes just goes to show how ridiculous Tom's stone ability is. For context, the jump from 465 to 500 in the deadlift was 'only' 7.5%
I think it'll be a long time before anyone really challenges Tom, I honestly think once he hits the 304, he should push for a 700lb (317.5kg) stone, which would make him the first to hit 3 different immense milestones in stone lifting (600lb, 300kg and 700lb). I think it would be decades before anyone else hits another huge milestone, and Tom's legacy would likely live on for as long as stone lifting is a thing

For me is got to be Jon Pall Sigmarsson, I saw him at the Callander highland games in 1988 or 89 without being disrespectful he was a prime athlete where as his competitors were although awesome had giant farmer type physiques, he also took time out for fans and seemed just a nice guy, obviously I have biases I was only 17 then and was awestruck, still am when looking back💪👊🙌🙌
If back when Brian Shaw was taking the stones to crazy weights, if he would have had the competition from Tom it is hard to say where they would have taken it. I would love to see them both concentrate on stones so we could see it.
Love these videos as someone who's only started following the sport recently its nice to see some historical background on events and lifts! Hope you do more

Hey Loz, the reason why in 1989 the stones were lifted in a different way (above the shoulder) is because the WSM was held in San Sebastián, so they adapted the event to match the traditional "basque stone lifting". The record was set at 329kg by Mieltxo Saralegi in 2003. There have been another 4 men to lift over 300kg, the most famous one being Iñaki Perurena with 320kg, back in the 90's

Inaki Perurena also holds the world record of heaviest Atlas stone to shoulder, before Atlas stones were even a thing in strongman and noone has matched him since

I think Brian Shaw is my favorite stone lifter. He's just good at everything and he was the first strongman I saw do the stones. He just seemed so methodical. Stoltman is the king right now, but I think for me Brian will be to the stones what Eddie is to the deadlift. They aren't the record holders anymore, but the lifts were so incredible you can't not remember them.

To me yah I guess Eddie is the best deadlifter of his time he was ahead of everyone but I think he should be more known for his pressing power he was unbelievable even compared to someone like big z we were rob of tremendous battles with there primes being far apart

LOVE this!!🥰 Right now it seems like Tom will be the strongest stone lifter. I would love to see Tom and Brian battle it out. But I don't think Brian has been training much with stones lately. It'll be interesting to see if he'll start that up again, now that Tom has broken his record..

Great video! I'm really excited that you included my family manhood stone in your list of notable Scottish stones - the Menzies stone. I'm training to lift the stone later this year. The Clan Menzies tradition was that a male must lift the stone to achieve manhood and to be able to get married - although my girlfriend somehow doesn't seem to agree this is a valid reason to wait! Watch out, Menzies is pronounced "Mingis". Great content, looking forward to more of this series :)

my opinion from watching everyone lift Stones I think Stoltman can take the record up to maybe 320-325kg and i dont think it will be beaten for a very long time.
Brian Shaw maybe and Hafthor could have if he wasn't training for the fight
Kieran , yes, Toms got the perfect body for it right now, huge long arms and not to big in chest and stomach, which reduces your reach. In the future when his frame gets bigger he might not be as good as he is now

I think for my all time favorite stone lifter, I'd give my accolades to Magnus Samuelsson. First one to finish a 5 stone run under 30 seconds and had a similar dominance in his day to what Tom has today. Not the first King of the Stones, but definitely the first to have such a strong hold on it! 💪

Nummisto is my favorite stone lifter. In WSM 1986 he was the first man to lift the 140kg stone in competition. He was the oldest man in the tournament, 5 years older than Capes, a decade older than Jon Pall, I seriously doubted he could do it, but he handled the 5th stone like a pro and it was absolutely amazing. One of my favorite WSM moments ever.
Kieliszkowski is my favorite stone lifter. He posted on Instagram a couple years ago doing a 360 lb atlas stone press in training. He also repped out the 400 kg natural stone for 5 reps to his shoulder when no one else could do more than one.
Tom is amazing, no doubt, but MK is a freak.

This was fun to watch! Record Breakers needs to approach the three you mentioned, but now that Thor is giving up Pro Strongman for ametuer boxing it might just be Brian and Tom. It would be epic either way!

Nice bit of trivia, at the 5:55 point DP and BS are lifting the stone over a bar made by Sorinex, a company owned by Richard Sorin, who I think was the first to close the COC 3 gripper.

Awesome content, Loz! As somebody else mentioned, I will never forget the epic battle between Mariusz Pudzianowski and Derek Poundstone in the 2008 WSM final, it was so close!

OMG, that man who lifted an atlas stone weighing over 600LBS, that's what I call fuckin insane strength.
Loved the stone run by Mateusz Kieliszkowski at World Ultimate Strongman 2019in which he was so good he did 8 stones basically with one arm due to a torn bicep. Incredibly impressive.
One moment that never seems to get talked about enough... Arild Haugen in the 2008 WSM heats (against Big Loz, no less!) lifted all five stones in 16.14 seconds - I've never seen anything like that before or since

I always remember Darren S failing the first stone, not because he couldn't lift it but because the platform was too high. Always seemed unfair to me that strength meant you had to be tall :(

I know his career has gone in another direction now but, in light of Thor vs Eddie, his insight on this alone, would be most interesting. Plus, of all the greats over the years, his background seems particularly intriguing. Fascinating character with a certain mystique about him - a beast too. Anyway, great work and always entertaining and informative. 👍🏻

It's always insane to me how far they made the competitors walk with the stones in the earlier competitions
You entirely missed basque country! Home of the worlds greatest stone lifters. In the early 90s they had a 105-110kg lifter shoulder a 211kg stone
Damn, I would’ve been just beyond a weakling.
I am a very small guy, so I guess I can’t expect much more. If my entire reputation depended on it though, lol, I could probably lift a 100 kg stone, or at least 200 pounds (if I really prepared for it). Makes you realize how huge these dudes are.
