    For Jody as utter respect but he was part her Band Shalamar as a Backup Dancer and Singer that is so awesome.She went Solo with that awesome hit of hers i love.Jermaine was on fire also around my fine era to be blessed and part of the greatest decade of all time never to forget miss it so much oh hail the 80s atmosphere could harp on and explain vibes and feelings like no other time or place in history

    Jermaine was born 7th September 1957 so would have been around 29 when this song was recorded. He died aged 39 in 1997.

    They all hung out dancing on Soul Train, back in Chicago. They formed a group. Jermaine was a backup singer for Shalamar. With members Howard Hewett, Jody Watley and Jeffery Daniels.

    I remember seeing him perform this song on "American Bandstand" in July of 1986, along with "We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off"!

    Jermaine was good friends with Jody Watley who is the namesake of this song. She did several vocals on his Say It Again LP.

    No matter this man will always be an "R&B Icon" that most will not ever forget! This was another close call, it peaked at #42 on the Hot 100 and #37 on the Sales chart. I guess it was a little too "urban" for Mainstream radio at the time. Nonetheless, this cut was hot!!!

    I never knew there was video for Jody...The first time i heard it was on a September 1986 episode of American Bandstand. I know he performed it on there in July 1986

    I Always believed he was the most gifted eighties artist, He was a gift from the start, I was not please with the interview on Unsung did with Shalamar no one made mention of him at all the was very wrong, he was a backup singer for three years with them come on lets show some respect for Mr Jermaine Stewart

    I just found out about his death, I thought he just disappeared! I bought the record LP of this song Nov 21 1986, snd still have it! I live in Chicago, just found out he is buried in Homewood Memorial Cemetary off I294 expressway. I may have to pay a visit...

    @BeneathTheSurface79 he did not ripoff he came out of the soul train era. at the time mj was still sporting a curly do, the style we currently know mj for is a style a lot of dudes wore back in the eighties mj just continued it well beyond its time. do i think jermaine was influenced by mjl in anyway? sure who was not its not the same as ripping off, jermaine was a backup singer for a group called shalamar: backup vocalists over time voice become influenced by the very people they back up.
