I cannot sing high enough praises for aloe vera. When I was in third grade I fell on a furnace and got a 3rd degree burn on my leg. We didn't have insurance or money so seeking medical treatment was virtually impossible. But our neighbor had many aloe plants and showed us how to use it on the burns. As a result of the burns I have some pigment differences in the area but none of the associated tough scar tissue normally associated with severe burns. That happened 47 years ago, and today it is hardly noticeable at all. When i was growing up we used a lot of holistic remedies because we couldn't afford medical alternatives. Over the years I've gotten away from that but now I'm long forward to your series on herbal remedies because I just want a more natural approach to living at this stage of my life.
I'm really excited about these segments. I gave my aloe plant away before the move to Alaska. It was hard to part with it. It was a happy plant. It had pups! 🐶 We use to go to this Asian Market that sold giant leaves in the produce section.
Yes, I love learning about herbals. Aloe is very moisturizing. I use it on my face and skin daily.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and what is going on . Your down to earth and I and my wife have learned so much from you .
First off I would like to say, thank you for your channel. I am learning so much. I just turned 50 and my husband is 47. Our three year plan is to relocate south (we live in Northern NY). We have a huge garden (615 hills of potatoes...smh)I make all my own detergents and have for years. I watched your video on canning meats. We buy our meat from local farmers and have it then butchered. Yesterday I canned a bunch of burger, because I realized it isn't smart to keep it all in a freezer in case of power failure. Please keep the videos coming.
pam t For laundry: All powdrered... Borax, oxi-clean, baking soda from the laundry aisle, Fels-Naptha soap (you need to shred it) purex crystals. Mix all together. Use 1 tbls at a time. The cleaner I use is what Jamie uses basically, but I use Castile soap. I also use wool balls instead of dryer sheets.
Lol that look Marina gives you when you said " she's gonna be our guinea pig" was priceless!
We learned from a very young age to scrape the gel. we learned from the best my mama lol. great video thank you and blessings to y'all
Aloe Vera is a great and easy to care for pepper plant. We're going to get some and make growing and using it a family thing. Thanks for sharing!
I learned something new. I have had an Aloe Vera Plant for years and always used for burns but until your video, did not know I could have also used on insect bites. Thank you for the information.
I have quite a few aloes now. The first one I bought has had so many babies. I've kept some and given some away but I love using the gel for diaper rashes! I will admit it is not as quick as the cream you get in the tube but I like it because I know exactly what I'm putting on my baby's skin. No bad chemicals
Get well Marina! Yesss! I have the Aloe plants in the house and in my daughter's college dorm room! Good to see you back! Been growing medicinal herbs along side of ya too! Dehydrating and packaging, for winter tincture & salve making. Looking forward to following along with your discoveries 🤹♀️! Great point for making throat spray!!!!! Will be looking out for that video.
aloe is an awesome plant. try to keep some bottled up around at all times. very wonderful plant
As a note when growing aloe vera don't use plant foods or chemicals of any kind on it. All of that is transmitted to the gel, it can cause chemical burns! I know and so does my mom we were burned by it. We had to get rid of that plant and start over when we found that was the cause
I'm so glad you're back! And I'm excited to learn about this with you guys.
Olive oil is great for ear infections, used it my whole life and it drastically helps heal the infections.
Excellent content, very informative. Thank you. ;)
Aloe is my number 1 plant. I also keep some in a gel type form in my fridge. If your skin is hot from irritation it is wonderful to apply cold aloe to it. My deg is allergic to grass seed (I live in the Aussie bush so this is a constant problem) aloe on his tummy really helps sooth his red itchy sore skin.
I always keep pieces that have been broken off my plant in the freezer, cut into about 1 1/2 in chunks. The frozen aloe feels great on burns!
Great to see so much love for aloe!...I use it with DMSO topically for all kinds of aches and pains
Had a pretty severe second degree burn on my hand as a toddler (touched an iron). My mom immediately cut open aloe vera, placing it directly on the burn wrapping it with sterile bandages. She changed it several times a day, I was left with a very small scar right at the knuckle joint. Docs swore it was the aloe vera that aided in the very well healed burn site. Always have it in the kitchen.
For years I would scrape out gel and put into a small tapered plastic container then put into freezer. When needed it was easy to squish the bottom of the container hard enough to have the frozen aloe pop out just enough to rub on burn with it's cold/cooling gel. When done put back in freezer.
Found a pic of those little containers. They were Tupperware. You can see them here. They are the little ones in front with the lid. tinyurl.com/y9atpoom
Great references, used all of my Aloe need to get another plant
Great update today, I so love learning new things every day !! Thanks for sharing
I have Rosemary's book, but maybe need to look at getting some more literature. Thanks for the great video! :)
Great video, Jamie. I would recommend going to a book store where you can physically look through herb books. Many do not give dosages. I can't tell you how many I have with no dosage info.
Jaime, was I the only one who picked up your Feed Me Seymour reference right away? I got a good chuckle and smile out of that instantly :) Thanks!!
Love seeing your video. I personally am very susceptible poison ivy/oak. In the past I was treated with injections to relieve the rash/itch, from now on I will go to the aloe vera ointments first.
Yes me too. I get it many, many times over the spring and summer. The only thing that works for me is Rhus Tox homeopathy.
I have always kept an aloe plant in my kitchen window. Another great thing about this plant is it doesn't mind being neglected. That makes it great for people who don't have a green thumb.
I love this. Can you include information on how to grow the plants, too, please? We always had an aloe plant available growing up in northern CA, but in Utah, I can't get them to stay alive. All three that I've tried over the 7 years that we've been in Utah have molded and rotted. I tend to forgot to water my indoor plants, but it seemed like it was too wet. I don't know. Anyways, the medicinal information is very helpful, but the growing information would be beneficial, too. Thanks!
+Mrs. Mags Ha I will let you know if I don't kill it ;0) but pretty much full sun and only water when the top 1" of soil is dry (it's a succulent)
yes, i was going to ask if you had any experience propagating aloe. if so, could you talk about aloe propagation in your next related video. thanks.
: )
Where I'm at, I don't have access to a lot of full sun. I only have east and west facing windows and my west facing windows are either shaded or in a sunroom that gets really cold in the winter. That may be my issue. For the houseplants that I have, I try to get the ones that have medium to low light needs.
mine loves it's pot, let it crowd itself, mine is happy in Australia's full sun
My aloe is the only indoor plant I haven't killed, lol! When we were in Aruba, almost 30 years ago, the aloe plants were so big they were the lane dividers on the roadway. I fell on coral while snorkeling there and cut my leg, when I went to the first aid station the lady went outside and broke off a piece of aloe and handed it to me! Worked great. That was my first experience with it.
The absolute best remedy for bug bites and sunburn, especially if you have both at the same time. We let ours grow big over the winter and they we are ready to go for spring and summer........!!
Aloe works very very well for sunburns, dry skin, sand cuts. super easy to grow too!
I freeze some aloe mixed with lavender essential oil in ice cube trays. When I get a sunburn it really soothes.
Have one. :) For my innerearinfection I use 25ml of sunfloweroil and add 5 drops of lavender essensial oil in it. One drop a day in each earn will do. Lavender is antibacterial and helps regenerate.
I gave the gel to my dog for arthritis for like a week and he completely stopped limping.
Here in Arizona if you plant one you need to contain it with a barrier, it grows like a weed and will overtake a area. Good medicine though. Also the are flowers are great for attracting hummingbirds and bees 👍👍
My mom had an Aloe Vera plant growing up and we always used it. Totally forgot about that thing.
The great thing about aloe, is that being a desert plant, they're so easy to grow. Mine are throwing pups all the time. In fact, I probably have a problem with too much aloe. So it's spread around the yard, and I don't ever have to worry about running out. It's really good with burns!
I live in a hot, dry climate, with very mild winters, so aloe suits our conditions. In cold, wet climates during winter though, it's best to bring them inside, so they don't rot. Avoid over-watering them, during this period too. They really like it dry, if it's not warm enough. Otherwise fungal rot can set in. I'm sure you will do well though. :)
love aloe vera
"Prescription for Nutritional Healing" by Balch is a great book also if you're interested. ☺️
I received in the email the notice of a video but when I went to see it was taken, was it taken by you or something else? As there are videos to be removed, I just wanted to know if, now, they also do not like herbs
We are having issues with Google. They are demonitizing our herbal videos due to "drug use" lol We have to wait until it gets reviewed. Hopefully it will be up soon
Great video and references Jaime.I will check out The Green Pharmacy. A reference book on my shelf is Prescription for Herbal Healing by Phyllis A. Balch. It did talk about using Aloe for wrinkles. Way to go Cleopatra! Never thought of that..
We use it to treat acne.
Thats cool
My mom had bad arthritis and used to buy Aloe Vera juice.
That I wish I new long time ago I have bad. And when my kidneys started going the Dr took me off. Now finding that I got lupas which could have caused the kidney prob. Last week my heart Dr took me off my water pill on Feb this year had heart attack. But I seen him last week or the week before but I asked why he took away being I needed to get the water out me and for my heart. He said taking to long kills kidneys takes alot out of them. So I've taken 14 or more years and been taking arthritis meds 17 years before they took 3 years ago. So wish I new what hurt my kidneys casue I want my arthritis meds back. The pains to much now days can't walk even hurts to sit up. So sorry for the story. But if aloe helps arthritis I need to no more I'll deff chew on some. Lol jk but ide drink the stuff so I will look into that. Thanks for the comment on her video it may just bless me from nowing this now. God bless
My mom used to sell Aloe Vera products. I heard of one product mixed with eucalyptus. I used it for sore muscles on my shoulder blades. I heard a miraculous testimony on poisonous spider bite. I accidentally left it at my aunt's place on vacation way away from home. She gave it back to me when I returned next vacation. We camping with other relatives in the mountains. My cousin Adonis was bitten in his sleep by something that left a like a growing rash. Everyone was worried for him except me cause, I had faith in the product. I applied it to the affected area. He was showing it to his buddies I guess hoping for the cure responsible. The next buddy he meant to show it to couldn't find it. Everyone else could. My product erased it and cured him. I wondered which one. The Aloe Vera or the Eucalyptus. Now I know, it was the Aloe Vera that helped him. Thank you very much for the information.
Great video!!!!!!
the one book every homesteader should have on herbs is "School of Natural Healing" by Dr. John R. Christopher.
it is over 600 pages, covers 120+ herbs, that Dr. Christopher actually used on a daily basis to treat his patients.
this book was created from his long decades of experience to be used as a text book to teach herbalist at Dr. Christopher's school.
it also contains herbal formulas for just about any disease condition you can think of.
I'm not good with plants and I have no room for them. Would keeping a bottle of Aloe Vera on hand to use for these purposes be just as good or does it have to be from the plant?
give it a try, full sun, they almost take care of themselves, don't water it much, spray bottle once every two weeks or less, hard to kill it if you ignore it.
THKS
Type of allovera ,with description what you need
good vid, anything for a stuffy nose? lol =)
Head colds are the worst! I don't have a remedy to clear congestion (yet!) but a tea of echinacea, ginger and honey should help overall. Feel better!
Maybe try Eyebright? thenaturopathicherbalist.com/2015/09/21/euphrasia-officinalis/
Guildbrook Farm | Simple Sustainable Living lol it was a funny because your daughter sniffled the whole vid 😉😁👊
where in dammam or khobar rakha this store? pls infoam location
use aloe on a regular basis for burns, cuts, scrapes, etc. .....would not be without it.
Some people are allergic to Aloe. Like me. I end up looking and feeling like a radiation victim.
We love aloe vera! Use it for many things all the time. One plant will turn into 30 in a year. We always make sure to take some camping with us as well.
