Great little countdown/ranking vids you got here! Album, title track, opening tack, closing track... nice twists on old concepts! What could be next? Longest/shortest tracks? Instrumentals? Best Harris track? Best Dickinson track? Best lyrics? ("Best" being subject to personal preference, of course!) Maybe when it comes to Maiden, perhaps a "cultural /educational" category is in order! History, literature, religion/mythology... no shortage of options!
I know this doesn't officially count, but back in the day, I used to assign Still Life as the "title track" for Piece Of Mind, simply cos it has that one lyric in one of the choruses : _Nightmares_ _Coming all the time_ _Nightmares_ _Will give me _*_peace/piece of mind_*
This is one of the few times when something from Powerslave wouldn't be my number 1. 1 - The Number of the Beast 2 - Powerslave 3 - Caught Somewhere in Time 4 - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son 5 - Dance of Death 6 - Fear of the Dark 7 - Senjutsu 8 - The Book of Souls 9 - Satellite 15... The Final Frontier 10 - Brave New World 11 - No Prayer for the Dying 12 - Iron Maiden 13 - Killers
1. Powerslave (1984) 2. Dance of Death (2003) 3. The Number of The Beast (1982) 4. Killers (1981) 5. The Book of Souls (2015) 6. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (1988) 7. (Satellite 15)/The Final Frontier (2010) I know; I cheated a bit on Piece of Mind because of the lyric in Still Life.
Like you I'm anticipating the Auckland set list. Would love to hear " Powerslave ", " Number " and a healthy chunk of the " Seventh Son " album. " Fear Of the Dark " would be a terrific bonus. If they were to play everything I wanted it would be a six hour concert😆
1. Powerslave 2. Senjutsu 3. Book of Souls 4. Dance of Death 5. Killers 6. Fear of the Dark 7. Caught Somewhere in Time 8. Number of the Beast 9. Seventh Son Only one that sucks is Satellite 15/New Frontier. Surprised at how many people aren't into Senjutsu. I love it. Agree the keyboard-related stuff should have been differently produced, like Martin would have done.

Top 5: 1. Number of the Beast 2. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son 3. Killers 4. Fear of the Dark 5. Dance of Death I suppose you could argue that Still Life is kinda the title track since they reference Piece of Mind and he sings it with that quirky voice.

I personally would have put Powerslave at the top spot #1. 🙂 I'm not sure how I'd rank the others. Partly cos I'm still not fully familiar with any of the material after Dickinson's departure. The live albums of the 90s (Real Live/Dead One, and/or the Donington show), were probably my final Iron Maiden purchases, until resuming Maiden in 2016. I bought the albums, but to date, just cannot seem to find the time to commit to a complete start-to-finish listen (I'll get there!). Since I cannot rank the post-1995 title tracks, I'll see if I can sort the rest : 01. Powerslave 02. The Number Of The Beast 03. Killers 04. Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son 05. Caught Somewhere In Time 06. Fear Of The Dark 07. No Prayer For The Dying 08. Iron Maiden
Awe dude you should check out my album rank of maiden to get a glimpse of how good some of the later albums are haha. When 2024 began, each week I put a different maiden CD in my car and just let it play over and over until the week was done. Took me right up until April haha was good fun
@@RustyDarlington Yeah, I keep meaning to just put an album on and play it endlessly - repetition is the road to recognition (familiarity is the better word, but then the alliteration is ruined)!! Or whatever, lol!

@@RustyDarlington Yeah... For slightly different reasons though. To be fair I get utterly furious when Maiden do the "guitar mimicking the vocal line" thing. But mainly it's when it's a one note lead on the verses above distorted rhythm guitars. It's something the band kept recurring to increasingly since Brave New World and IMO it's plain and simple lazy song writing. And great tracks could be even better, all time Maiden tunes if they weren't plagued by this trait (The Red And The Black and Stratego come immediately to mind). In the case of the song Brave New World, I really like how the song starts. And to be fair I don't mind the vocals following the clean guitar melody... it even gives it a desolate feel to it. I also love the crescendo a la "The Clairvoyant" (here the lead guitar should start doing something else than mimicking the vocal melody, but hey... IMO It's still acceptable) . All my gripes with the track start when the chorus kicks in: as far as I'm concerned it breaks the momento, is boring and repetitive as hell. And what comes next is even worse: the rest of the song is a repetition of the entire Intro followed by the deflating chorus. Yes, there's space for some guitar solo action in the middle, but structure-wise this song seems like a dog chasing its own tail. And if the initial guitar melody already sounded flaccid when placed upon the galloping crescendo at the beginning, it only gets worse when it's placed upon the up-tempo verses. To sum things up, I really love Brave New World's first 2m15 and in all honesty the band could pull one hell of a track from there. However, the rest sounds lazy and uninspired to my ears, just trying to milk an excellent intro and crescendo through absurdly tiresome repetition (something also present in the remainder of the album - Ghost Of The Navigator, Dream Of Mirrors, The Nomad) and pulling a subpar chorus. Just my opinion.
@carlosjantarada7212 amazing comment 😂😂 but yeah I’m totally aware that maiden love to copy guitar Melody’s and vocal Melodys (like in wild wind blows and hell on earth). It can work but it can also miss 🤘🏻
You have alot of unpopular opinions in this. Debut album as their best, 7th Son being their most commercial, when Fear Of The Dark easily is, Fear of The Dark that low on your list. To each their own though.
The debut album is my favourite because it’s the album that I obsessed over and it got me into the band and more metal over all. Seventh son to me is their most commercial because of how accessible it is, madness is an overproduced song that I’ve just never liked 😂 but yeah who doesn’t love having unpopular opinions? Makes it worth watching rather than hearing different people say the same thing 😂🤘🏻
