I think it's beautiful , and it says so much about their marriage that she came into the church with full confidence that her husband would support her. And although he's not there yet.He stood beside her holding a candle. So very beautiful. ❤

Fr. Walsh. What I just witnessed as a former psych nurse and cradle Catholic from Dr. Peterson, was not pain. It was not jealousy. It was not envy. It was the true and unadulterated ideal love of God. To have so much love for the other was undeniable. Maybe, some of the emotion he felt was "I wish I could be there with her", but not an envy wish but a greatful wish and definately, pure and utterly joy of the grace his wife had received.

I became a confirmed Catholic in 2015 at Easter Vigil Mass. Prior to my conversion to the one true faith, I was a Calvinist for 15 years and before that a fallen away Pentecostal believer. My family initially opposed my decision to become Catholic but they eventually came to accept it as a fact. What I lost was a few friends. What I gained was the full communion of faith known throughout the world. I went through the annulment process and was married in the Catholic Church to my Filipina wife. I think Dr. Peterson is going to buckle and convert at the right time. When your wife is Catholic and you are on the fence, it is an uncomfortable situation. The hesitation for Jordan Peterson is his audience which is largely Protestant. He must proceed with caution if he chooses to swim the Tiber. 😊😊😊

I just recently listened to Gabi on Pints with Aquinas talking about when he was there for the interview with Tammy and Jordan Peterson when they announced that she was coming into the Church. During his chat with Matt, Gabi mentioned that Jordan is constantly (!) being, really, harassed by Catholics throwing rosaries at him and throwing themselves at him asking/begging him to come into the Church. If that's the case, maybe we're the ones keeping him from coming into the Church. Maybe he said 'unlikely' at the end because he wants us off his back. We need to leave him alone! Let go and let God....just a thought 💭🤔.

Yes I listened to that interview also and mentioned that “pressure” issue.in another comment here. He’s helped many many people esp young men-and the issue of Faith/Religious affiliation is something kept private and quiet in clinical environments. He might be wrestling w/that-the cost/price issue these Fathers spoke of so eloquently. He’s just been thru a horrendous period ? 3-4 years? In which both he and his wife were v/Iill and separated from each other b/c of their illnesses. She was told her disease was terminal- no cure/no recovery. She prayed the Rosary w/a friend-was healed-now became a Catholic. Pretty overwhelming-they’ve known each other since they were teens. He’s on his journey. The best I can do is to pray for him. He’s being led-in God’s time-right into Jesus’ arms!

Something you said about choosing to become Catholic because your wife is makes me want to share this:
Dad was raised Presbyterian. When he went to convert the priest asked why. 1960, so things were way different. He said, “she won’t marry me unless I convert”. The priest sent him home and said come back when you have another answer. He and my mom were so impressed. He was Catholic till the day he passed, 7 years ago.

Great discussion. JBP is currently on a tour called “we who wrestle with God” where he makes a brilliant critique of secular (enlightenment period) science, I attended it a few weeks ago. He’s further along towards Christianity everyday and I think he could become one of the greatest allies of the church in recent times by spreading his ideas to a wide audience and having the incredible articulation to defend his case against the opposition. This newest lecture will be released soon I imagine. God Bless!

Not a fan of interpreting someone else's experience, instead of ASKING them.
Jordan Peterson IS a believer in Jesus Christ. He has publically confessed Christ as His Saviour several times.
He always tears up when he talks about his wife and the love he has for her, as well as her development in her life and faith. Also, God used her Catholic experience to restore her health; who wouldn't tear up over that???
Deep thinkers experience life and emotions very deeply, as well.
But his conversations are always teachings as well, so his heart aches for those who do not know Christ. The tears and the envy are for others, not for himself.

From other comments Peterson has done regarding the poor role the Catholic hierarchy is playing on demanding the faithful to fulfill their duties, and the poor role of masculinity in the contemporary Church,.we can guess that that's one of the main reasons he is not stepping into the Church. Which would be great to see him converting and asking for the strengthening of the masculine in the Church. So much need it because we have such weak leadership than can't directly confront the major problems we are facing as Catholic in a pos-true culture

I've followed Dr. Peterson off and on for a while, depending on the topic. I've heard him discuss God and Christianity and it seems to me he has a hard time with the relationship aspect of faith. There have been videos where he acknowledges God's supremacy but there are also times where he speaks of God as more of a construct. He displayed a bit of that during that interview when he started on a stream of consciousness about the nature of reality. That is the foot he still has firmly planted in his training as a psychologist. I've watched him try to fit the square peg in the hole by making claims like Nietzsche is the best friend Christianity has or when he tries to link what Jung had to say with what's taught in the Gospels. It's an attempt to marry the two and it's not done out of hubris or malice, he just seems to be caught between two competing worldviews and he realizes at a deeper level you can't be a little bit pregnant.
That doesn't mean academia and faith are incompatible. There are those on both sides who would make that claim but that is because they have adopted hardened positions and treat it as some sort of competition. I admire Dr. Peterson because he is a seeker. He's a bit like the Benjamin Franklin of his day. Franklin spoke of the virtues of Christianity and saw it as a public good. He even based some of his views such as those on abolition on Christian principles. But unlike Peterson, Franklin wasn't a seeker in matters of faith. He had made his mind up at a young age that it was fine for others but he didn't like to be constrained on a personal level. That is the surrender angle. Dr. Peterson is coming to terms with that as well but it doesn't need to be a zero-sum game. You don't have to abandon academics and science for Christianity anymore than you have to abandon Christianity to work in the physical sciences. There are people, believers in scientism, who would argue otherwise but the conflict is a made-up fight carried out by those in search of power and prestige rather than truth and grace.
My concern is more young people turn to people like Dr. Peterson for advice on spiritual matters than their pastor or priest. That is a failure of the church, a desire to be of this world and to focus more on that than salvation in the next. People, especially young people, are seeking the truth and if the church tries to straddle the fence in order to avoid offending and please the masses it reaches no one. Someone or something will fill that God sized void in their heart. I have no problem with young people taking advice from Dr. Peterson, especially young men who are desperate for guidance, but Dr. Peterson can't be the shepherd. I do wish him well on his journey and once he figures out that it's okay to surrender, that there is a great peace in it he will be fine, so long as he understands it is a day-by-day struggle because Satan is interested in our souls as well, and it's really easy to fall for the old line; "Did God really say?"

For one, we need to acknowledge and respect how difficult it is to be wrestling with these things publicly, open to the scrutiny and analysis of all; that takes a lot of vulnerability and humility to kinda bear your soul like that.
I also think that perhaps what we’re seeing is a reminder that ultimately faith is a gift and a grace given by God. It seems as though Dr. Peterson can see the truth of the Faith and the implications of it, but he’s hesitating from making that leap of faith. It’s like how Vatican I reiterated that one can know of the existence of God purely through the light of natural reason without faith. It’s hard for baptized believers to remember that frontier of how far reason can take you before faith takes over and informs of the rest because the two are just so integrated into who we are and how we think.
    Let’s pray for Dr. Peterson!

I understand how he feels about his wife. My wife and I didn’t meet until we were in our early 50s. Before we got married she said that she felt that a woman should follow her husband and ask me to take her to the church I attended because she knew nothing about it (I’m Eastern Orthodox). She fell in love the first time she went. So she was received into the church and we were married shortly afterwards. May God rest her soul in peace. During the few years we had together she blossomed into the beautiful woman I saw the first time I saw her. All the years I waited for her was absolutely worth it.

You must not know much about Jordan, because he’s a very emotional person. I don’t think he’s wrestling as much as he’s in awe of this new journey where he sees the fruits of his wife. I think he as emotional because this has made him love her even more. I’ve been praying for him for years, thinking he would be a great Catholic; right up his alley with the profound theology and the deep richness of Catholicism for his intellectual nature. I had no idea God would bring it through his wife first!

I have been watching Jordan for quite a while now. I saw him begin this journey, and although it may take him longer than many, I believe he is and always has been an academic. I hope and pray he has a profound and personal experience with our supernatural and transcendent Lord. I think he will get there. It seems he wants to make sense of it all, but there are far too many mysteries that he has not been able to reconcile with his reason. Hopefully, he will wake up one morning and discover that faith and reason can coexist. It is not one or the other. Perhaps his wife will be the impetus for deeper understanding and acceptance, to lead by example.

Peterson said Catholicism is as sane as one can get...in an interview he says Catholicism is good for his wife....but He isn't ready to dive all in yet....he has to work through his hangups....he should not let all his intellectualism be a bar against the faith....the Holy Spirit will guide him if he humbles himself and opens himself up....I think he may just do it after his wife's example or he could be like a CS Lewis type....pray for him

Dr. Peterson's hesitation to enter into the Catholic Church, in my opinion, is the total and absolute COMMITMENT that this entails. In one of his talks, when asked whether he believed in God, he responded: "who deres say he believes in God?"
Dr. Peterston is a very consistent thinker and a man of honour once he makes this commitment he will follow it to the best of his abilities... even unto martyrdom....Hence his deliberation.

I was stuck on the incarnation for years. How? (And I don’t mean just the physical part of it) How? How? His beautiful. What humility. What love. What compassion and more. After all that you’re back at square one because no matter what a CNN person discovers about it, it’s nothing. Who knows the mind of God? But it’s wonderful to ponder it. Everything is for His glory. What Jordan needs to realize in Tammy's journey, and what he's witnessing, is what St. Paul said " I must decrease, you (God) must increase" Tammy is surrendering herself to God's will for her, and God's love for her and her role in life, even if Jordan doesn't follow and nobody else follows, ..she knows what her soul loves and needs, she's following God and abandoning whatever fear of loss there is in doing so... which also shows a lot of trust and love and respect in and for her husband, but having and keeping respect for her individual role in life... I find this fascinating and beautiful! I remember her speaking about... I believe the 4th joyful mystery of the rosary a couple of years ago and how she could relate it to life and her life, and her sweet soft voice. Jordan had recently described her as "prickly" ...but that he loves that about her, lol... he was talking about how women/ wives need time alone and how it's good to respect, appreciate and love that, ...it was very good... I'm a cradle born Catholic, who's been married for 30 years and this is true for myself and every women I know... ther title of the you tube short was "why couples benefit from time apart" ...it was really good.
There's a quote my daughter wrote on the chalkboard several years ago, that I can't erase, because it's so beautiful and speaks truth for me as a woman, a wife, and a mother... "a womans life should be so lost in God, that a man needs to seek Him in order to find her" if Jordan loves Tammy as much as he says, and his love for her is evident, there's not much doubt (there's always some, because even C.S. Lewis brilliant as he was, never converted ) he's very likely going seek what he loves most in his life, because he can't live without her... they're one in marriage.
Thank you Father's! This is beautiful, sincere and such a good conversation to hear!

With respect, I do feel the framing of Dr. Peterson's journey as "ahead" or "behind" Tammy's misses the mark. Jesus is not a thing we can measure. His love is beyond measure or categorization.
I would not want to set Christianity against othe honest pursuits, as it is intellectual, metaphysical, common work, and faith, all in one.
As you said later in the podcast, Dr. Peterson's journey is a deep, which is the best way to arrive at your end point. I left the church, but never Jesus, in my own journey. He called me back gently, showing me the glory of what I gained for what I traded in. Essentially, finding the highest good, Jesus, in a way that I can bear. In a personal way, I see that happening to Dr. Peterson. We should respect the process and trust in our saviour to ensure souls like Dr. Peterson's are brought home in all aspects described above. Love to all!

Dr Petersen said in another video when asked if he believed in God in the context of a very intellectual, well grounded, well premised academic debate, that he doesn't like the question. He doesn't like the question because deeply in his existential core he senses and affirms that belief is not an abstraction that allows one to say yes I agree on some intellectual surface level about this or that or the other Doctrine or Dogma. Jordan Peterson knows that belief is acquiescence surrender lived out, lived out very very concretely. He says that belief is a verb that if embraced would literally rock our world and ourselves, our essences, our deepest ontological intellectual, spiritual and even physical selves. JP will never do anything that he doesn't embrace completely and that doesn't fully engage and transform his very core being. For him, being Catholic would mean taking the Incarnation on, with all its implications, doctrines, logical outgrowths, illogical and profound sentiments and living it to the point that the believer is absolutely authentic and living the profound Adventure that is life forever changed, transformed and transfigured by and with a spark of the Divine- through Him, with Him and in Him. I pray our faith is just such a vital, animating, soul-shaping, soul-altering, ego destroying, humbling reality as is the Grace- filled spark that is shaping Jordan Peterson in its all- consuming Crucible.

Jordan Peterson needs to read the life of Elizabeth Leseur- wealthy french lady that loved her aethist husband so much she let him find Christ & convert to Catholicism at his pace by showing him how much she loved him and God. When she died he read her diary expressing her deep sorrow of how her husband walked away from her most precious love Christ and that she would therefore not see her husband in the next life.
Jordan dont wait to walk together with your wife and Christ on the narrow but path of full truths, no compromises of Catholic faith, without fear doubt vanity , embrace Christ & discover full truth, irreplaceable joy, with your wife whilst youre both in this world. What we do in this life, taking leap of faith for Christ and out of deep love of our spouse will be immensely rewarded in the eternal life.

Jordan has relied on his intellect his whole life. His heart will win him over soon enough.

I think you guys are missing the point a little. J. Peterson might be struggling with something. But it is not seen from this short clip show at the beginning. If you had been following him, you would understand that he is a deep thinking man who doesn't just speak in till he's articulated his thoughts. And that's why he kept a long silence at the middle of his response. I think he is trying to say that her wife had became more of herself ever since she became Catholic...
