I was in an accident two weeks ago and I totaled my car. I spun across 4 lanes of interstate and hit the Jersey wall. First, no joke, I was listening to the podcast since it was Wednesday morning. Once I made peace with the fact that I’d hear no more Nateland podcasts, I waited for the 50+ mph impact and then it was done and I was still alive. So was the podcast, playing on! My airbags went off in front, legs and side curtain. The airbags inflate and deflate so quickly you don’t even notice. It doesn’t hurt. I was so amazed I was still alive and I credit the airbags. I had only minor injuries. Hey Bear!
Agreed, as I said a few weeks ago, keep the 2 hour format and keep experimenting with different combos of "family members" BAD is often as good as BAND. Thanks folks.
In the parking lot of my local Farm Fleet, a guy who was parked about 20 feet away shouted over to me that he had a random question for me. I kept my hand on the car door, ready to jump in and drive away in case he was some sort of creep. Instead, he asked if I had gone to see Dusty Slay in Iowa City a couple of weeks before. Apparently, he had been sitting a few seats away from my husband and I. We had a short conversation about how great Dusty is, and I told him to listen to the Nateland podcast. To end the conversation, he said, “We’re having a good time” and did the Dusty wave. I went from being creeped out to smiling ear-to-ear. Thanks for coming to Iowa, Dusty! Also, we’ll see Nate in June! Keep up the great work, guys!
Bates has truly turned in to our Ernie. Runs the show, keeps it together, can’t imagine it without him. The straight man who peppers in some incredible jokes and zingers. Nate is Shaq, Dusty is Barkley and Aaron is Kenny. Works for Inside the NBA and works for Nateland! Keep it up folks.
I was on my first solo road trip with my young daughter when she unfortunately got sick in the backseat. We immediately turned around and headed home. Listening to the podcast on the drive lifted our spirits in a sad moment! Hickory is my hometown, so hearing Jon Reep was especially fun. Thanks for the pick-me-up!
Former butcher here... If it's labeled "Ground Beef," its a mix of different cuts and different fat ratios. It could be anything and usually very cheap. I don't buy it, personally. Look for ground chuck, round, sirloin, etc. That tells you what cut of beef its from and should come with a higher accuracy of lean/fat ratio. As far as what its fed, most cattle are fed corn because it yields faster growth and more fat (which Americans love). Grass fed are leaner and sometimes more gamey tasting (which i like).
Hands down my favorite podcast; love this pure group of comedians. Had a near-death experience while hiking and listening to the “Arizona” episode: I was chased and almost attacked by a bear. Grateful for the laughs in my ears while it all went down. Love you guys!!
So, I started listening to Nateland around episode 140. Loved it immediately and finally finished catching up on all the episodes. Boondoggle is definitely the glue that keeps this show together. I love how inaccuracy is the norm and no one even cares. ......At the end of the day, all I really want to hear is Nate saying the word paint. Keep up the good work.
I have loved watching stand up comedy my entire life and love to hear from Nate, Breakfast, Aaron, and Dusty about their insight and success. Been a Folk from episode one and fan of Nate before that. Nate, I was at the 1YL conference when you surprised us and lost my mind...I think I even screamed "Let's GOOO!" My new wife was definitely starteled and confused by my excitement.
The whole "not wearing the band's shirt at their concert" rule comes from the movie PCU. A buddy of mine came up with a much better rule: You can only wear a band shirt if a) you've seen the band live and/or b) you own the band's entire discography. It's a rule that's even more endearing for me after that same friend passed unexpectedly a few years ago. Your convo about "the rules" made me smile remembering him...thanks for that...
Speaking of Oppenheimer - we limit what our kids watch almost as much as Nate’s parents did… my 84 year old father took my 13 year old son to see this movie about such an important time in our nation’s history. During “those surprise scenes” my dad yelled out “Whoa!!” Loudly in the theatre. And my son is now scarred for life. 🤣😂
Hey Bear! After seeing Dusty's show last week, I've now seen all 4 Nateland guys perform at least once. Dusty did a meet & greet after the show & I was going to say hey, get a pic, & mention something about the podcast, but the people running it made us feel like we had to rush through, so it kind of threw me off. I didn't want be rude & hold the line up, so I said something I keep replaying in my head & laughing at... several of the things I was going to say got combined into 1 short sentence where I told Dusty, "Thanks for coming" as if I was thanking him for coming to my show. What are some of the funnier interactions you've had with fans? Anyway, thanks for finally coming out towards Pittsburgh & responding as if my comment made sense. Thanks for the weekly laughs! - Zach
Great topic for today! I am passionate about how people are as "fans". When I was 10 years old, I picked my teams and have stuck with them through thick and thin for 40 years now. I am a Mets and 49ers fan and have never been to those states. Being from Atlanta, the only home team I have ever been a fan of was the Thrashers, but changed to the Predators when the Thrashers moved to Canada. The best rule for being a fan is to be a true fan no matter what. Also, one of my top rules is to never boo your team. You can be disappointed, but if you can't get out there and do better, then you have NO reason to boo them! Keep up the great work guys!
Just rewatched Nate's Greatest Average American and had two new thoughts. One, the helicopter jokes are hilarious. Obviously impromptu comments and Nate was spot on. Thus, my second point - there is nothing average about you. You see things in a brilliant way. You are, however, extremely down to earth. Congrats on your success!
It’s cool hearing a lot of your insights about starting out in stand-up. I especially thought Byron’s comment about taking classes and learning little things like moving the mic stand. I’ve always thought moving the mic stand was one of the best parts of his shows. Kidding of course! I really do enjoy all of your comedy, and Bart has some of the best low-key one liners during the podcasts. On a separate note, watching y’all run the 40 yd dash was the best part of my year so far and Barry Bates run is EXACTLY as I would imagine it! Super bummed Dusty wasn’t there to run.
Saw Nate in San Antonio and it was a hot show! Next headed to Dallas in May to see Dusty, can’t wait to have a good time! Now I need Blair and AA Ron to come down to San Antonio/Austin area. All 4 of you guys keep me rolling!
I think that the pillars of Southern comedy are The Andy Griffith Show and Jerry Clower. I’m 45 and I met Jerry Clower at a Sonny’s BBQ when I was a kid. Clower’s significance was the storytelling aspect of comedy. He wasn’t a one-liner, or telling stories only as a setup. The whole story was the bit. It’s just like when I was a kid sitting and listening to the grown ups tell stories. I wish that there was more discussions among comedians about what makes Souther comedy unique.
This episode about fandom hits a little harder for me today, as it comes out the same day that my favorite team, the Arizona Coyotes, are playing their last game in Arizona before (reportedly) moving to Utah. To me, fandom is all about the experiences and memories, and I’ll remember a lot of great moments, from going to games as a kid with my Dad, to taking my daughter to games. Been a tough couple days, and more tears will be shed tonight, but I appreciate having you guys to provide some levity today.
Hey Guys I've always wondered have you ever used material from the podcast as source for material in your own shows. Some of the things you come up with is so very funny such as Dusty's undying love for barry Sanders and his conspiracy theories . Aarons reason for learning Babbel so he can plead for his life in different languages . Nate with his wonderful attempts at reading peoples names and Brians comments on fashionwear of people in the front row of his shows LOL. Was blessed to see you when you were here in NZ in Auckland Nate. Great show. To the Perfect Podcast that gets me through the week. I am thankful.
This was one of the funniest episodes in a long time. I feel bad in my heart for laughing so hard without Nate present. But the vibes were so right. Also, totally listened the whole episode to see if Dusty would mention the Tampa show, which in going to with my brother and sister who i got into the Nateland world!! Can't wait to have a great time at the Tampa Theater❤
I liked Dusty’s question about why he didn’t see the moon before the eclipse happened. It would be cool to see the moon creeping up on the Sun, but a solar eclipse only occurs when we are in the new moon phase. Like Aaron said, from our perspective, the moon is in shadow during a solar eclipse. So, the moon is not seen during this time, but a Lunar Eclipse happens when the moon is Full. Enjoying the podcast! Keep having a good time!
I don't want to read too much into it, but I hope it's not about Aaron's wife or her pregnancy. It never got brought up today, especially with him announcing it via ad read before and people razzed him for announcing as an ad read.
@@zacstack215 He really didn't, did he. All he said was that the party was a surprise, so.... I feel like Nate is trying to curb Dusty out of some things - especially after Nate said Dusty was his least favorite guest. He sort of played it off as a joke, but I don't think he was really kidding.
I take the titles of this podcast literally. So I had to pause and wonder how Dusty, Breakdance and Aaron would dissect fans for an hour and make me laugh. Oscillating, ceiling, box, portable, dual window units... I guess I'll have to wait.
Robyn Richardson - I went to a Whitecaps game and my sister volunteered me to throw out the first pitch without me knowing it. When they announced my name, I was so surprised! I actually threw a pretty decent pitch. I was on the high school softball team 10 years earlier but played second base. Would you believe that when I walked off the field, our star pitcher from that high school team met me at the gate. Hadn’t seen her since graduation and at one time we were best friends. Aaron, you should try your luck again; never know who might be in the stands. Love the podcast….always having a good time!
As an Auburn fan in Alabama, I couldn’t love Reep’s fandom rules more! It was good to hear some common sense after Aaron’s unhinged anti-Auburn rant a few months back. The big state schools almost always have the rudest craziest fans (Alabama is no exception, no matter what Weber, the poorly closeted Bama fan says). Also, the worst ones tend to be those with no affiliation (just ask our trees). Full disclosure: I’m married to a Bama grad/fan and she’s amazing. Also, Dusty’s joke about it is hilarious and true. Love the podcast
1:21:37 In high school I worked at an apple orchard in mid-Michigan. We had to unbox the apples shipped from Washington state and out them in farm crates to sell out front in the store. We also had "home baked" pies...that were frozen and merely baked at the orchard restaurant. Probably the shadiest job I've ever worked.
I worked at a very expensive, extremely popular, always crowded, "local" Steak House on the Florida panhandle. All steaks and most of the seafood was frozen. House gumbo was made using to different mixes, mixed together. First prep was putting frozen steaks in a sink out back under running water.
I liked when Boundless read ‘versatile’ and then repeated it as a question with a different pronunciation. There are a lot of words like that and it’s funny to me to point them out in that way, especially during an ad read. Keep it up Brexit!
I listen because I have had lowkey beef with Nate. As a good mom in Southeast NC of kids 34, 25, and 18, it was a treat for us to go to the Serpentarium in Wilmington many times. I am offended because we went dozens of times and had nearly the same experience you did. And we kept going back. my oldest was devastated when the owner didn't die of snakebite but angry wife. For some reason I Iook you up to listen, when in real life I avoid people that seek me out to tell me absurd personal things. Bless you and your family. Check out the aquariums when you're down our way
So, not sure where I fall in the Jon Reep rules of fandom. I live in deep South Texas among a family of Dallas Cowboy fans, myself a huge fan of the Tom Landry years. I jumped on the '85 Bears bandwagon (who didn't?) mainly because I am such a huge Walter Payton fan. Almost 40 years later and in constant disappointment mode, I've never jumped off the bandwagon and have fully invested in all things Chicago Bears cheering them on through the highs and mostly lows. So, am I entitled to carry the "true fan" label having never lived in Illinois or had any other ties to Chicago? Can't wait to see Nate in Corpus Christi this Thursday - front row tickets locked and loaded!
You forgot about college faculty and their family. My husband worked for Purdue University for nine years. The health insurance he had through that employment paid for all three of my cesareans. We will forever own and wear Purdue apparel wherever we live and whenever we feel like it. Boiler up!
The scene: Elton John’s 40th yellow brick road anniversary tour- Phillips arena in ATL- the 2nd to last row in the arena. My friends and I are all dressed as Elton from different eras, singing, dancing, having a blast. The guy behind us is literally trying to fight us for enjoying music at a LIVE concert (😂). Security comes. We get moved to the pit right in front of Elton and have the time of our lives. The miserable man stays in the last row, seated, having 0 fun. I fully support standing and dancing at a show if that’s your thing.
I totally get where Jon is coming from with the 49ers and Panthers. I’ve been an Oakland Athletics fan since 1987 when I lived near the Bay Area. While “working” (I was 7 years old) on my uncle’s farm, I didn’t have a hat so he gave me one of his. Yep, it was an A’s hat, and I’ve followed them ever since. I know, not a great story, but that’s what it is. My family moved from there a year later and settled in Utah a few short years after that. I still root for the A’s (no jokes please), but have said as Jon did, “If MLB moves or expands to Utah, I’ll jump ship without hesitation.” And that’s not to spite the Athletics, I just know it’s much easier to be a fan of a local team than one in whose market I don’t live.
I really love the comments that Brian chooses but I would be curious to see the comments that Nate, Aaron, and Dusty would pick. I feel like the comment vibes would be way different. Not sure if anyone else but Brian has the time to read through comments...
This was another great episode as always. I know it's probably not possible with everyone's schedule, but I would love if there was another podcast through Patreon or something to that effect. I feel like I just finish these episodes too quickly.
Aaron, wearing the shirt of the band you are going to see dig is from the classic movie PCU. Jeremy Piven tells the other character, "Don't be that guy." Anyway, I think its cool to wear the merch. And buying it at the show and putting it on provides even more cover for the move.
I’ve been a Denver Broncos fan since John Elway appeared on the team around 40 years ago. I didn’t think they would go to that last Superbowl let alone win until close to the end of the game. I have no faith in that team but I’ll love them forever!! Win or mostly lose!
My father was enlisted in the Navy. He took a correspondence course claims Clemson because of that one course. He does root for Navy, and of course UCF where (we) his kids went. Great pod boys an original folk here.
I came to the podcast because of Dusty (I watched a few times before he joined but he solidified my commitment). I also have found Brian to be the proverbial rug that ties the room together (does it not?). Never seen his stand up, but he is really funny on this podcast.
Perfect 👌 description, At first I was like ugh this guy is not funny , I thought nate would be mean to him lol but once he got some confidence and snapping back at everybody, I became a fan I was so stoked when he announced his baby a while back, oh how things change
When I was a kid my stepdad had a personalized jersey made with the #12 (for the 12th man on the field) and his last name Sparks on the back. We were at a Chiefs game and we were walk through the concourse and I hear “Ya! Rich Gannon!” We then walked by and I hear “Sparks? Who the hell is that?”
My wife recently got into the show 60 days in, last night she was watching and there is a participant on season 7, she’s wearing a Dusty Slay “we’re having a good time” hat in her interviews
I was at a Nickel Creek concert, and the band wanted to create an intimate, no-camera/no phone moment during a song. A girl in front of us wouldn’t put her iPad down as she recorded. One of the band members singled her out and sternly gestured for her to turn her device off, which the girl wouldn’t do. So I guess she has footage of the band being annoyed with her to this day.
Good ol' Bilbo Baggins nailed it about military rooting for army/navy. As an enlisted member of the Army (16 years and counting) I can say that the only time I've ever cared about west point is the the once a year WE play Navy...but only because my cousins are in the navy and we talk trash. But other than that I agree with John's list
Grew up in the state of Oklahoma. There were three major universities here with their own Following. I ended up playing sports in a small division two school in Arkansas. When people ask me, who do I root for seeing how the state of Oklahoma is (in)famous for athletics. I always mention the school where I played in Arkansas. I like the set of rules Jon Reep laid out.
Hey bear! Im right there with you guys on the aisle seat. Definitely the best seat on a plane. I’d prefer the other people not get up but I’d much rather be in the aisle and get up if the other two seats gotta pee or something than have to ask people to move for me. Plus with the aisle I can stretch a leg or two and that’s nice for the knees.
I feel Aaron’s pain. Growing up in Des Moines, we went to Iowa Cubs games every now and then. As a young baseball player, I wanted to throw out the first pitch in the worst way but my parents never got around to signing me up. Fast forward 10 years, I call home from college and find out that my younger sister, who couldn’t have cared less about baseball, is throwing out the first pitch at the Iowa Cubs game and to make it worse, she went up there and decided impulsively that she’d throw it with her off hand, just embarrassing the whole family. Salt in the wound. Love the show!
It is funny to hear Dusty say he doesn't want to sit next to the person on the plane talking. Meanwhile I am fairly certain he has mentioned in the past how he tells an Uber driver to turn off the music because he wants to chat them up. He may have even said he'd call for an Uber just to go for a ride to talk to them without actually needing to go anywhere.
Hearing the ground beef conversation made me wonder if the guys know how they get the mystery flavor of dum dum suckers? It is where the end of the roll of one flavor and the start the next flavor overlap. They just cut it anyways and put on a mystery wrapper.
I was an enlisted submarine sailor and wore Texas A&M gear on my boat. I honestly was not aware that Navy was an actual college team. I ended up going to The University of Texas at Austin after I got out and my oldest will graduate from the USNA next month. I wear Longhorn and Navy gear throughout the year. Am I wrong?
I wonder how long it will be before Nate closes down record stores… I notice Nate doesn’t say ‘It’s not on us..’ But Aaron says it every time he closes the show. I ❤ being a Folk!
Dusty: “But I didn’t go to college, so Roll Tide”….then under his breath, “We’re having a good time here.” 😂😂😂 it’s the subtleties with Dusty that get me most.
Love the show, been watching since COVID. Aaron... Please stop trying to use Nates intro and exit lines when he is away. They don't work for anyone except Nate!
I completely disagree with you all saying that it is okay to wear the shirt of the band you are going to see. Jeremy Piven, in one of my favorite all-time movies PCU, stated to his friend (Gutter) that he was not allowed to wear the T-shirt of the band he was going to see. His classic line was "don't be that guy". I quote that line all the time to this day and couldn't agree more.
I saw Nate last year in Tallahassee and there was a guy behind me that repeated every punchline. I was so wanting Aaron to be there to say "enough". I let it go and still had a great time.
I would argue that family members of the coaching staff should be platinum elite. I know recruits before recruits know they’re recruits. I know game plans before the players do. Shout out to my BIL, Drew Stutts who won NAIA Men’s Basketball National Championship and was named National Head Coach of the Year! Go Freed Hardeman Lions!
Love Jon Reep - feels like he should always be the guest when Nate’s out. But did he say “Grin Reaper”? Is that the specific skeletal specter that appears when a comedian dies?
Dusty: “I love my Helix mattress. I’d rate it 5 stars on the internet if I believed in ratings, or stars, or the internet.”
I was in an accident two weeks ago and I totaled my car. I spun across 4 lanes of interstate and hit the Jersey wall. First, no joke, I was listening to the podcast since it was Wednesday morning. Works for Inside the NBA and works for Nateland! Keep it up folks.
The boys really shine in Nate's absence. They all are more outgoing and gregarious. The vibe is there 👌
None of the guys are Kenny. Kenny is so obnoxious.
Butterscotch was on fire in this episode 😂
We need an update on Stephen Bargatze’s kitchen.
And the award for best podcast ad reads goes tooooooo..... Dusty Slay !!!!!!!!!! Congratulations, Dusty! Thanks for always having a good time.
So glad Dusty’s back

I think, in my mind, flying implies motion. So if you’re staying in one place you’re levitating but if you zoom away then you’re flying.

I'd like it to be known that when my dogs go from playing to feral, I yell ENOUGH. And they go back to normal. Thank you, Aaron.❤

I take the titles of this podcast literally. So I had to pause and wonder how Dusty, Breakdance and Aaron would dissect fans for an hour and make me laugh. Oscillating, ceiling, box, portable, dual window units... I guess I'll have to wait.
Haha i wouldn't be surprised if that was the actual topic
I read it and thought, "Fans, as in box? Ooh, I bet humans." 😂
Anyone else dying to know why they skipped that one comment??? Would love to hear what made it past boat ramp's review..
I hope it didn't have anything to do with Aaron's announcement last week.😟
Aaron is a soft cake.
@@headreddedstepchild6177 what's softer than cake? That would be Aaron.
What was that?@@karenmessinger7089
I’m so curious too
As an Auburn fan in Alabama, I couldn’t love Reep’s fandom rules more!
Brian’s Sweet Caroline interjection made me laugh out loud. 👏🤣
Underrated gag of the podcast!
This is why I don’t trust produce stands.
As a fellow North Carolina native, I’d love to see Jon Reep on Dusty’s Nashville Hot show. Seems like that’d be a good time.
Our house had a lawn jockey when we bought it. We love him so much. We give him fist bumps.
Check out the aquariums when you're down our way
The moment John Reep said “What team is in Tuscaloosa?” the credibility of his dumb rules went up in flames. I’m 100% with Bathroom Break on this one.
And here I was expecting the gang to talk about ceiling fans and other cooling appliances.
I’ve been a Denver Broncos fan since John Elway appeared on the team around 40 years ago. I didn’t think they would go to that last Superbowl let alone win until close to the end of the game. I have no faith in that team but I’ll love them forever!! Win or mostly lose!
The sawdust used in many foods is an actual food fiber referred to as cellulose
My father was enlisted in the Navy. He took a correspondence course claims Clemson because of that one course. He does root for Navy, and of course UCF where (we) his kids went. Great pod boys an original folk here.
Dusty and Jon are in an unspoken competition for who’s face can get more red
I immediately thought “oh, Dr. John!” - no wonder my niece says Dusty and I are the same. 😂
I'm from Grand Rapids and our bars close at 2am not 12:30. I wish I would have come and seen you. Next time for sure.
My husband is from Colorado and adds an “r” to wash too! I’m from Louisiana and he says I say all kinds of weird stuff! Love the show!
Jon is a great guest!
Damien Rice is gold ✨ It was amazing to see him live
I came to the podcast because of Dusty (I watched a few times before he joined but he solidified my commitment). I also have found Brian to be the proverbial rug that ties the room together (does it not?). Never seen his stand up, but he is really funny on this podcast.
Perfect 👌 description,
At first I was like ugh this guy is not funny , I thought nate would be mean to him lol but once he got some confidence and snapping back at everybody, I became a fan
I was so stoked when he announced his baby a while back, oh how things change
yay jon reep! was wondering when he be back
You can catch him on the Carolina reeper pod
Aaron and Dusty should watch Nates new special together, but Aaron should put the Tennessee Kid on to see if he realizes!
Good morning, and "hey bear !" Greetings from Essex 🦀Maryland via ABQ...
I think every time Aaron does an ad read, he needs to end it with a John Crist's "let's goooo!!!"
Bilbo baggins 😂🤣😂
Noticed Dusty’s encyclopedia sized wallet halfway through, surprised he ain’t walking with a limp.
“Tony Stone or something” 😂 best callback
Grew up in the state of Oklahoma. There were three major universities here with their own Following. I ended up playing sports in a small division two school in Arkansas. When people ask me, who do I root for seeing how the state of Oklahoma is (in)famous for athletics. I always mention the school where I played in Arkansas. I like the set of rules Jon Reep laid out.
I love this podcast. I look forward to it each week. This week fell flat for me. It's okay.
My son watches Into the Storm multiple times a week and I just realized that Jon Reep was Reevis! 🤭
No one had the heart to tell Breakfast that kid wasn't recording his set but was probably watching a show on their iPad.
Can’t speak for all enlisted, but I was enlisted Army and I definitely pull for West Point/Army football!!
Another rule for sports-if you have an immediate family member attend, you can say “we”. If a parent has a kid attend UK, for example, they’re a “we”.
Happy New Year, Dusty!
Yesss! Jon Reep!
How does Jon Reep manage to look shorter than Nic Novicki in that seat? 28:29
Is John reap that short or was his chair just lower than everyone else???
His chair back is lower compared to Aaron's.
Am I wrong?
The fans rules list is what unemployed people do on a Wednesday morning
Blueberry: “Let me tell you about Vuori”
Me: **tap tap, tap tap**
I wonder how long it will be before Nate closes down record stores… I notice Nate doesn’t say ‘It’s not on us..’
But Aaron says it every time he closes the show. I ❤ being a Folk!
Dusty: “But I didn’t go to college, so Roll Tide”….then under his breath, “We’re having a good time here.” 😂😂😂 it’s the subtleties with Dusty that get me most.
Dusty’s face looks about as red as it did when he was at that hockey game
Used to love Jon, but he came across as an elitest prick with his "rules" on being a fan.
Hey bear ❤ hello folks ❤️🥰🤗
I don't think I'm gonna be able to move forward without knowing what the skipped comment was
