GM made it, in the form of the 5.3L Colorado. I have two, a 2012 Z71 4WD and a 2011 ZQ8 2WD, both extended (not crew, but unfortunately you couldn’t get regular) cab, both with 4.10s. The big one has the factory G80, the little one a Detroit Truetrac. A Magnuson blower and Tremec swap are coming for the little one. Dodge also made 5.2L, 5.9L, and 4.7L V8 Dakotas, and you could even get the 5.2s and 4.7s in regular cab with a stick. Ford lost a lot of money not building like a ‘Ranger GT’, and GM should’ve put an LT1 in their S10 SS and later LS1 in their S10 Xtreme.

It had a problem with the coolant leaking really badly and I would drive the truck in the summertime until it shut off and wouldn't go anymore. Let it sit for 30 minutes and start it back up I'm going to take back off. I did that more than a hundred times. I put some sort of stop leak in it and it doesn't b.leak coolant anymore. Has a good transmission in it that is true positive traction when you launch it in second gear it spins both wheels and all the years I've had the little thing I've never gotten it stuck and I've had some pretty hairy places cuz I used to call junk in it all the time. If you have a good battery some starting fluid and 5 gallons of premium gas it'll start every time. Growing up in a neighborhood of hotrodders, we had a Ford Courier and Chevy Luv truck with V8s dropped in them. Monsters for sure.
F"CK a hellcat! Piece of chit will need a new transmission after 50,000 miles. I'm a dodge company mechanic
Was the hellcat asleep? Lol that wasn’t a launch at all
That Ranger smoked that kittykat. Shit I have a Ranger myself might do me that swap too. The Ranger is light as hell and that 302 launched it nice.
So many dodge fans feelings got hurt in the comments 🤣😂
I used to have the GM equivalent of this Ranger, essentially (LS1/6-speed from a Camaro with a 9” with 4.10s and a Detroit Truetrac in a ‘98 S10 standard cab short box). It was shockingly fast with shockingly little work. Guy I sold it to rebuilt the motor with all good forged guts and bolt-on a Magnuson blower and it’s absolutely RIDICULOUS now. Light = right. You don’t need 1,000 hp when you weigh 1,000 lbs less than the other guy, haha! My 5.3L Colorados are no slouches, and they’re fairly stock.
A lot of these people don't seem to understand power to weight.
LIGHT MAKES MIGHT
An S-10 only weighs 3232 lbs. I have one
@@andrewquezaire347 Mine was around 2900, it didn’t have much in it. A Charger weighs like 4600. I don’t think a 2.2L 5-speed 2WD regular cab weighs that much, anyway. My 5.3L extended cab Z71 4WD Colorado with 33”s and a topper only weighs like 3900.
@@The_sinner_Jim_Whitney Mine is actually a loaded Sonoma
Just because you buy a fast car doesn’t mean you know how to drive it
And it’s a badass truck
Great. Those 302's are great little engines.
Really helped when they switched to roller cam and lifters.
I had a 90 ranger 2.9l w5sp. Tough little truck. Surprised the abuse that thing took.
I’ve always wanted to find a nice clean later model ranger, and coyote swap it with a manual transmission . Either that or a ls swapped s-10!!!
