At 0:40 was the once vibrant center of the downtown shopping district, with four department stores found at each corner: Hecht's, Hutzler's, Stewarts, and Hochfield-Kohn. It resembles the area around 8th and Market in Philly or the area around the Downtown Crossing station in Boston. The last of these closed in the late 1980s, but the area started to decline in the '60s due to suburban flight and the end of the streetcar system.
At 1:54, the facade of the Mayfair theater, which last closed in 1986, still stands. At 2:50, you can still see a fraction of Baltimore's Antique Row (similar to Pine St. in the low teens in Philly), but it isn't quite as vibrant or extensive as it was in the '90s and early 2000s, although the Eubie Blake jazz museum is worth checking out. My father was born right across the street at UMMC Midtown, which was then known as Maryland General Hospital.

This video is AMAZING! While viewing it, it puts you in the driver's seat & makes you feel as if you are operating this train through downtown Baltimore. Awesome !

In July 2023 with 14 years as a professional bus operator and 19 years as a Light Rail Operator, I retired from the Maryland Transit Administration. I would like to thanks Bus 9905 for recording me in action back in 2017. Thanks everyone for over 19K in views.

The light rail is hands down my favorite part of Baltimore, and I used to ride it all the time when I was in college (which was not too long ago actually). It's a pity that the Penn Station stop is no longer being served, I hope they can bring it back.

Downtown Baltimore looks like crap now. Local government isn't really doing anything to improve the situation.
