Thank you for this video. It is helpful for me. Do I need to add foot note if I already insert citation ?
Generally, if you have an in-text citation with an entry in a reference list at the end of document, you won't need a footnote. However, you should follow the rules for whichever style guide you are using.
Thank you
Thank you for watching!
Thank you for this video, very helpful! I was wondering if it’s possible to put two footnotes for one citation?
I seem to have figured it out, thank you anyways for clearing this subject up in general!

Thank you very much! Do you know how can I add an endnote between existing endnotes without messing the order of the endnotes?
Thank you for watching! When you add an endnote between existing endnotes, all the numbers should update automatically. If you don't want the numbers to update automatically, you can insert a manual note with a superscript, as shown in my other tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/cSQ4WzUOxpU/v-deo.html. Best of luck!
I like it.

Hi, Erin. I am glad you are doing these tutorials. I just learned about you from Xulon Press. I sent them my book which has some 250 pages of text and then a total of 300 pages, including endnotes and bibliography. Xulon advised me I would have to redo the endnotes according to your advice. Question: must I redo all superscript numbers in the text, and then somehow redo the numbers in the endnote pages? Grateful you advise.
Thank you for watching! If you have created your endnotes using Word's endnote tool rather than inserting them manually, then you shouldn't have to redo any of the superscripted numbers. However, with such a large manuscript, I strongly encourage you to try any changes on a copy rather than the original file. Best of luck!
@@erinwrightwriting And thank you kindly. Would I also need to touch the numbers on the endnote pages?
Thanks
Thank you for watching!
Hi Erin! I am trying to get the endnotes to start on a new page after my conclusion. I have:
1. Inserted a Next Page Section Break after my conclusion
2. In the dialogue box I selected:
a. Endnotes
b. End of Section
However, Word starts the Endnotes on the same page immediately after the Next Page Section Break rather than the next page.
Is there a fix to this rather than hitting ENTER for several lines until they pop up on the next page?
Hi, Michael. You may want to try inserting a Next Page Section Break right before the endnotes (in a blank line right above the black line separating the endnotes from the content) to see if that will push them to their own page. I hope that helps!
Thanks for this video. I am currently enrolled in genealogical studies, and citation is paramount in that world. If I had watched this video prior to writing my first report, I could have saved myself a ton of trouble and time.
A quick question... Is there a way to make the footnote number blue, like you would see on sites like wikipedia? Thanks again.
Thank you for watching! I have a separate tutorial showing how to customize the appearance of footnotes and footnote numbers: ua-cam.com/video/m5aliyl2Kpc/v-deo.html. Best of luck with your studies!
@@erinwrightwriting Thanks! I'll check that out right away!
thank for the vid. it definitely helped me out. i've got another question that you might be able to answer for me:
i started my document and have both foot notes and end notes. now i am tryiing to put an index in the document.
for some reason the index section placed after the endnote section will not show up on the Navigation Pane on my document (??!!).
it shows up when i place it before the endnotes section, but not after.
should the index and bibliography page be placed BEFORE the end notes, or after?
if they go after the endnotes section, how do i get them to show up on the navigation page?
Thank you for watching! Traditionally, indexes are positioned after the endnotes. I can't be certain why your index isn't showing in the Navigation pane. However, you may want to ensure that the index heading is formatted with the correct heading level so that it doesn't become nested under the endnote heading. Best of luck!
Thankyou

Thank you for watching! I wish you all the best in your future studies!
Thanjs
Thank you for watching!
thanx. but is there any solution to put the endnote on the same pge as the foot note ?
Hi, Samir. Thank you for watching my video! Footnotes appear on the same page with the content they are connected to, whereas endnotes appear at the end of the section or document.
Now make vedio on header and fotter
i was wondering how i could automatically generate a bibliography if I used footnotes this way? like insert citations for APA i have citation sources, can footnotes have a similar feature?
Thank you for watching my video. As far as I know, you can only generate a bibliography from the sources cited with the citation tool, not the footnotes. Best of luck!
Erin wright
How to add symbol like this(2) automatically ,is it possible or we have to do it manually
Thank you for watching my video! Word doesn't have a built-in option for adding parentheses around footnote or endnote numbers. However, if you google "add parentheses around footnote numbers in Word," you'll see a variety of find and replace workarounds shared by different people. I hesitate to endorse any of those methods because I have found them all to be a little unpredictable, but you might want to give a few a try. Best of luck!
@@erinwrightwriting thank you for sweet conversation, your so good, can I be able to contact you Erin wright,on WhatsApp or any thing you might help
@@erinwrightwriting Erin why no response beautiful
What do u out at the bottom
Of the footnote . Writers last name first or first name first and page number right ?
That is a great question! There isn't an official way to format footnotes. Instead, your footnote format will depend upon the style guide you are following. Thank you for watching!
cheers
Thank you for watching!
I didn't know you could click on the number of the footnote and it would take you to the text associated with the footnote. It's a small thing, but trying to find the little superscript number, especially on my laptop, is annoying! Thanks for the video!
I agree: trying to find the little superscript number is annoying! Thank you so much for watching!
The question is what's the difference between them how we know which one to choose because you said that we can use both on same document. Another thing, what if also there is bibliography. Wouldn't the document be cluttering?
Great questions! The difference between how footnotes and endnotes are used is determined by your style guide (e.g., Chicago, MLA, APA, etc.). Some will allow bibliographies in conjunction with endnotes and footnotes, while others won't. Thank you for watching!
Hi i want to ask if i am using Arabic language ( right to lef) language) how to make the footnote from right to left direction as when i try to modify footnote style i find the option right to left is inactive so i can't choose it . is there any solution for that problem many thanks
Hello, Joseph. Thank you for watching my video! This isn't an issue I have faced; however, I found a thread on the Microsoft Community forum that seems to provide two possible solutions toward the end of the conversation. (I will link the thread below.) Best of luck!
answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/how-to-insert-footnote-in-right-direction-in-word/c3cb3c54-9877-40ff-b4b7-47e44bdac18c

Thank you for watching! My tutorial on citations shows how to create a reference page (ua-cam.com/video/W_kuvEtqxwU/v-deo.html). Hopefully you will find it helpful. Best of luck!
How do I retrieve the footnotes from my paper? They disappeared entirely. They come back when I place the
cursor next to the fn. number, but then disappear again as soon as I let go. I want them all to appear, and stay
that way, so I can look at the paper as a whole, share or send it out, fax it, etc. What should I do? Thanks!
I'm sorry you are having trouble with disappearing footnotes. This has been a known problem since at least 2013. Unfortunately, I don't have a perfect solution. The first thing you may want to try, if you can get one of the notes to appear, is to select it, right-click, and then select Font from the shortcut menu. In the Font dialog box, make sure "Hidden" is not selected. If you google "disappearing footnotes in Word," you will find many other suggestions to try. Best of luck!
Very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very nice
Thank you very much!
I need help! My professor does not want footnotes at the bottom of the page, only listed at the end. How do only do endnotes? When I open my dialogue box and click on endnotes, I am clicking "end of document" in the dropdown menu. I select the number format to numerals and my numbering is "continuous". Then I click "Insert". But it continues to give me a footnote at the bottom of the page. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you for watching my video. I have another that shows how to convert footnotes to endnotes and endnotes to footnotes (both individually and collectively). You can find it here: ua-cam.com/video/DfQKMwzOvPg/v-deo.html. Best of luck!
Hi mam,
I would like to know, In a Order letter we have lots of officials and I want to give copy to them in the letter below, is there any trick to get their name below in copies automatically.
Any comment/ idea will be appreciated.
Thank you for watching! If you want to place the same officials' names on an order letter every time you send the letter, the easiest way would be to create a template. I don't have a tutorial on that topic yet. However, here is an article from the Microsoft Support website, which you may find helpful: support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/create-a-template-86a1d089-5ae2-4d53-9042-1191bce57deb. Best of luck!

Hi Iam getting this massage ( you cannot put drawing objects into a text box callout comment footnote or endnote ) does your steps fix that please
Thank you for watching my video! Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the error message you describe, so I don't have any advice. If it persists, you may want to contact Microsoft for help. Best of luck!
If I convert my word file to a PDF one, how can I maintain this function?
Thank you for watching! When you convert your Word file to a PDF, footnotes and endnotes will be visible, but won't be editable in terms of automatically updating the in-text numbers, etc. So, it's best to have all the footnotes and endnotes complete before making the conversion. Best of luck!
Gracias senorita.
Thank you for watching!
can you help me a little bit? i am trying to insert endnote in a doc. but there is a problem i m facing. First two endnotes are inserted correctly, but when i click to add 3rd endnote, it automatically shifts the 2nd note to number 3 and add the original 3rd note as 2nd and this continues for all the endnotes i add after :') i m unable to find any solution to this
That sounds like a frustrating issue. I don't know the cause; however, if you select the first incorrect endnote number in front of the note (not the superscript in the text), you can then select Note Options and change the number in the Start At text box. I wish you all the best!
@@erinwrightwritingthank you. i'll try this method
