I don't know why but I can't stand visible logos. I once read an interview with Patrizio Bertelli (CEO of Prada) where he complained about the fact that their customers are demanding bags with logos. He and his wife (Miuccia Prada) think that it looks ridiculous but they can't do anything about it. The design of an item should stand for it self. It should be unique and remarkable. That's how one should recognize a designer/label, e.g. brands like Alaia, Celine, Loewe, Bottega Veneta etc.
Mi Jac yikes so that’s why Prada has been so logoed out recently, more so than before! Even the clothes have logos now - its seriously tacky. As someone who loves Prada design but hates logos, I often feel disappointed nowadays. Would you remember where you read this interview - it would be an interesting read!
@@rm6700 The interview was published in a German newspaper in 2015 called Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin. The interviewer told him that Calvin Kleins daughter once complained about what an off-turn it is, to see her father's name printed on her lover's underwear. And then asked if he (Bertelli) knows where a man could get suitable underwear without any logos. Bertelli answered that he has no clue and shared the fact that Prada actually used to produce unlabelled underwear - but nobody bought them. He then said: "Miuccia and I fighted for not using visible logos at Prada but our customers let us down. They want to see the label. That's why we made a compromise. If you take a look at the label policy of the 20 biggest fashion brands, you'll see that we use ours rather sparingly." Unfortunately, the interview is in German, so I tried to translate that for you. It's quite a long interview where he not only talks about the industry but also about art, his relationship with his wife and his personality. A really good read.
@@rm6700 And I totally agree with you - yes, it has become tacky. Such a shame. People should stop looking like a billboard. Spending one day in Milano, you'll barely see any labelled clothing on people (and if so, it's a tourist's outfit).
Mi Jac such a real shame! People should dress with design in mind and your outfit should be able to stand on the merits of its taste and cohesion alone. People who dress with logos do so because they think doing so would make them chic, thinking that wearing a certain designer is a signifier of taste. Those people are lazy and don't have any sense of beauty or refinement. Or maybe they just want to shout that they're rich, and that is just plain tacky. Sad that these are the times we live in and that these once great design houses have to dumb down their designs to sell. Okay, tirade over. Thank you for letting me know where you've read the interview :)
Mi Jac thank you for translating! Such an eye opener. I love Prada clothes but I am turned off whenever I see the loafers with the gigantic triangle in the front - I feel it's such a disconnect with the design centric approach of the brand. This was years before. This season, the whole store is drowning with logos. Its not as blatant as the Chanel dress Sophie tried on but in my opinion, dress shirts should not have embroidered logos on them. I agree with your observation about fashion in Milan. I also noticed it in Paris and Hamburg (except for some tourists, yes, sad to say). I feel in those cities, there's such an awareness of what works, what is beautiful and what good taste is that you would naturally eschew logo dressing. I gravitate to smaller brands nowadays because of the logo mania, but thankfully, some luxury brands still make clothing largely devoid of logos such as Jil Sander, Lemaire, Pierre Hardy, etc.
I like the form and material of the dress and Sophie looks really good in it. Even the other items are nice, or would be if the logos were a bit more discreet. I think Sophie should get a classic Chanel suit, with skirt and jacket. It's timeless and would always look good.
