Port City better get it together & get it FAST before 337 & Regulators bully them people. It's going be a long night at Summer Band Jam & Independence
They have room to grow, but they are at least working ! Let’s support them in their efforts
Facts they do have room but they must (and I mean that with the highest urgency) utilize fundamentals at least 30 minutes before rehearsal start and at home for no less than an hour a day

I really hope this is a joke. If it’s not it’s going to be a long summer for these kids. I think they need to sit out this year and work on themselves. But I blame the directors for putting out this Bs.

2. The director and I went to undergrad together. Good guy, need some things to work in terms of directing an ensemble.Now the ugly….

5. 1st song….tempo not in tact. Trombone hella flat (fundamentals). I agree the percussion too damn loud. Why???
6. Just you play soft, it does not mean you play weak. They air will always be fast

9. Trumpets aren’t slaw, they just may not be there mechanically and fundamentally.

11. Umm this is a rehearsal so I’m not expecting to hear X band.
12. “Open up” can mean a lot of things….these kids need private lessons so they can have command over their instrument.

My rebuttal:
#1 why must we sugar coat high school students. Let's normalize telling the raw truth in its entirety so they can get better.
#6 air is not always fast. The slower the air the lower you play the faster the air the higher you play.
#10 you most definitely build endurance by pushing yourself. Your face is full of muscles and you must work them i.e tear the muscle fibers down so that new muscles fibers are created stronger hence giving you more strength to endure the intensity that is needed.
#11 rehearsal???? If it was recorded it was a performance. This was meant to be put on social media so rehearsal turned into a performance. "You stay ready so you don't have to get ready"
#12 open up means to push more air into the horn and add more intensity to the sound. Very plain in our style of playing. Most people can't afford private lessons so personal practice on the material that is taught will build you.
We can't make or create excuses we must create results.
