I just wanted to say thank you over the past 9 years this video as helped a number of ATC, ACF, CCF and othe cadet force cadets. I know that I personally send all my cadets to this video for help in shaping there beret. So again thank you and I hope that you are well
Thank you so so much! I joined the ATC about a month and a half ago and we just got your uniform and I wanted to be sure I got this right. A lot of your videos have helped me as well, thank you so much for making them! :D
Don't do this just before cadets as it takes a few days for your beret to fully dry out. I'd only do this a couple of times when you first get your beret to make sure it's properly moulded but you're going to have to space it out, over the weekends or something so that it's dry for parade nights :)
Thanks for the tutorial, I just started air cadets 2 weeks ago so im a noob to the moulding, it doesn't look great but what's better a chef hat (what it first looked like out the packet) or moulded quite good and flat??
Thank you so much I ownly just got my greens and had know idea on how to mould my berret. I didnt even know you had to mould it. Thanks to you it looks perfect :)
Just kinda perusing here after watching that excellent bulling video. Guys, really. I'm a Canadian Army regular and although the branches have always been rivals, we're all on the same side. Have respect for your comrades! The Navy ships the Army overseas, the Air Force provides that immediate support for operation ranging from close air support missions to casualty evac, and the Army makes sure both have a port or airfield to use. A team divided is not a team at all.
@ravcuk Hey thanks for the tips! Unfortunately we can only wear the berets we get issued and there's some debate about whether or not we're allowed to remove the lining. Our WO will rip the lining out of as many berets as he can whereas our CO tells us to leave it in. I definately would have taken mine out if I thought I could get away with it as it is a lot easier to mould without
@TwaddleFlip Glad you liked it. :) You can take the lining out but it doesn't make much difference, for us they were quite fussy about you taking it out as it looks better with a lining, also means your head is against the lining and not the wool.
Cut out the lining of the beret makes it a lot easier. also you dont need cold water at all just use warm water , if you get the leather band wet just give it a good few of pulls around the band and it will fix it. also try not to get ripples on the top. a very good and easy way to get a nice fold is to iron it in.
Cool video, just a quick tip; if you take the black lining out of your beret it makes it alot easier to mould as the beret is thinner, when the lining is in, the beret is alot thicker and so in my opinion doesnt look as good and cant be moulded that well. Although some squadrons are quite strict about it because in essence you are defacing MOD kit!
Apparently, as the inner-linning is a part of the beret and the beret signifies service to the queen you are defacing the queen by removing it, however lots of people do it anyway and it's a kind of infamous practice to get a sleek looking lid :)
@SurvivalPilot17 Yes, i'd imagine so...Where is the cardboard, it shouldn't be there :S Did you get any specific instructions for moulding the beret when you got it or are you sure it's definately cardboard? Most have a thin circle of plastic at the front to support the badge but i've never heard of one having cardboard
Someone mentioned about the technique, it's actually the traditional way all of the British Forces are taught to shape a beret 2 tips 1)Get hold of a 'small crown beret' (google it) less material to shape and looks neater. 2)Remove the inner lining, this makes it much easier to shape. Just trim it out, don't unpick the stitching though as the leather band will come off ;)
To make it easier to mold, shave it(you know like you would shave you're face) til it's half the thikness it used to be(remember to soake it first, dry then shave). Don't shave all in one turn shave it multiple times! This is what we do in Norway, makes it easyer to mold:) And I would recomend shrinking it, cause that'll allow you to make it a perfect fit! Hope this was helpfull to someone :)
im 294 chatham air cadets and I dont have a berete ??? but im just new started in march and I luv ur videos they help me with info and do u have videos of polishing moon boots ??
When moulding the beret, you shouldn't get the leather band wet, but cap badge should come off via a pin inside the beret. But the cap badge is metal, there'd be no problem.
Just curious! if you know when did The 593 leave Ravensbourne for swanley? as in the 1980's early 1990's they were stationed in at The Ravernsbourne School.
A personal opinion is to totally wet the beret, shape it and keep it on your head until it is dry, keeps the shape more efficiently! Also one criticism don't use clips on your beret, on occasions the teeth will be indented in the beret fabric, not good. Another is really define the badge, your in the ATC be pround and show it off!
WOW thank u very much im actually using this vid and shaping my beret now! Its going good i just got my full uniform today so :) GOOD STEPS AND DETAIL EASY 2 UNDERSTAND!!!!!!!!!
@wouzerz Thank you. Don't worry, it's just friendly banter between different squadrons and cadets, I have a lot of respect for ANYONE who joins a military organisation :)
Thank you very much for this video! All others I found on this subject are difficult to follow. I'm not enlisted in any service. Just a collector of sorts (if you had to put a category on it) :P
2117 Kenfig Hill, I had my beret shaped perfectly before it was ran over by a car but then I did the same technique as you and it's back the way it was, and with a messed up beret badge lol
@wikigeek I would do but i'm not in the cadets anymore and had to give most of my uniform back :( Is there anything specific you need advice on how to wear?
As our CO is uniform officer of Herts and Bucks wing I can safley tell you all that the method of moulding in this video is perfect....HOWEVER !!!!!!!! there should not be a crease coming down over your badge. There should be a trench behind it making it stand out from the rest of the beret.
I am new to army cadets and I haven't shaped my beret yet. I just have one question: if the badge thing on the front doesn't come off, is it ok to get it wet?
I have a question..I got a new beret (since i've just joined the air cadets)and it has a string in the leather band , what shall i do with it take it out oe leave it in?
I'd say take out the plastic as it makes it SO much easier to mould and more comfortable, cutting out the lining is really controversial, my WO was strictly against it. If that's what's done at your squadron then you should do as you are told but is there any staff you could ask for an opinion first, not just your flight sergeant?
@HeatSeekingMissiles I hope it helps, just bear in mind that you may have to mould it a good few times before it actually improves. 367 South Sheffield, what's yours?
hay thanks great vid im a trianing 1 star in mersyside acf and ive had to shape my beret a number of times cause of people changing there mind on the way i should have it but urm i will try yours and get my major's oppinion on it thanks :)
@SlothCatcher I've heard that makes it easier too, just our WO is kind of strict about that sort of thing so i had to make do :/ It's a good tip for anyone who reads this section though
Just a quick note, throughout my time at cadets, cutting the lining out of the beret allows it to shape much better, and the fold Is very easy to mould too. If your unsure, ask you.NCO or CO
Embily thank ou for this vid are all your other ones about air cadets becuase I'm getting my uniform soon (only when the rest of c flight have been measured and all got parade shoes)

I would have loved to had seen an oporation where all the ACF, ATC, SCC, RMC and maybe the CCF on a training exercise!
Thank you. I needed a beret for my field training uniform. You help air cadets world wide (I'm a Royal Canadian Air Cadet)

When moulding the beret, you shouldn't get the leather band wet, but cap badge should come off via a pin inside the beret. But the cap badge is metal, there'd be no problem.
Should it fold naturally near the badge when moulding? Or do I have to make a specific Lenny this between the badge and the fold???
Just curious! if you know when did The 593 leave Ravensbourne for swanley? as in the 1980's early 1990's they were stationed in at The Ravernsbourne School.

wow your beautiful! and nice tip for the beret, its my first time to receive a Military Beret.
@wikigeek I would do but i'm not in the cadets anymore and had to give most of my uniform back :( Is there anything specific you need advice on how to wear?
In Australia we have brim hats. The brim has to be completely straight or it will look like a cowboy hat.
As our CO is uniform officer of Herts and Bucks wing I can safley tell you all that the method of moulding in this video is perfect....HOWEVER !!!!!!!! there should not be a crease coming down over your badge. There should be a trench behind it making it stand out from the rest of the beret.
About how long does the entire process take, including drying? Thanks
Don't use you hairdryer, it can shrink it, and and can also damage the fabric!!!
You just saved my ass homie 👌🤣😱
Wonder how to get rid of the sweat-induced stink in my beret.
Thought it will shrink in water.
Thanks, his advice was to cut it out but forget that it was him that told me to...so I will probably leave it in. Thanks for your help.
@ZagrothTreafyr To each their own but you shouldn't get the leather band wet as sometimes it will shrink a little too much
I am new to army cadets and I haven't shaped my beret yet. I just have one question: if the badge thing on the front doesn't come off, is it ok to get it wet?

this video was really helpful, didn't have a clue myself. Whoooo go ATC!!!! :)
never use warm/hot water... just submerge in cold until soaked, wring it out really well and wear/shape.. warm water will shrink it as it is wool..
thanks for this ive really been strugling to mould my berret
Does "Dry-clean only" matter?

some people dont dip it in cold water, they just use the hot
does it really make a difference?
How often do the air cadets get to fly? i.e gliders
There's a piece of cardboard in my beret. When i soak it will it distroy the cardboard??
@Birdi123ye thank you for saying so, glad it helped. Is this someone i know?

Beret's can be molded any time so long as their wet with hot water, remember to tear out the plastic square on the inside (if it's new).
I can’t take my badge off would it be okay to do it with the badge on?
